For those who don't know, the proud Edward being talked about can either be Edward I or Edward II (alternatively, it's both), kings of England who William Wallace, Robert Bruce, and Andrew Moray led the charges of the Scottish clans against. The song has underlying themes of the bravery of the Scots during the Scottish Wars of Independence. I feel like the lines "O'er land that is lost now, Which those so dearly held" are referring to the eventual loss of the wars and Scotland joining with England. Or something along those lines. I was born and have lived in Scotland my entire life, there's nothing quite like our wee nation and I'm proud of that. Alba gu bràth.

My mum’s family is English so if granny stayed in Argentine or moved to Scotland I wouldn’t be here

It’s also ironic because historically Scotland has been feared for their military. In ww1 the British army would choose Scottish soldiers before anyone else because they were intimidating. In Ancient Rome, when the romans tried to take Scotland, the warriors would throw themselves on the spears of the romans to give another warrior the chance to take the soldier from behind.

I’m from England. My mum is Brazilian. My dad’s Irish. My grandma had a Scottish dad. She recently passed away -a couple of months ago. I hold my childhood memories with her dear to my heart. She lived a full and incredible life. I haven’t been to Scotland, I’m hoping to go to Glasgow this Xmas.

Happy New Year, Scotland! I live i 3:15 n Vernon BC in a senior's residence. Every year, we celebrate New Years of a different country. This year was Scotland! One of the staff called someone in Scotland and put them on speakerphone so we could all hear him. I had difficulty understanding most of what he said, as his accent was very strong..plus I'm partially deaf.lol I love the accent. I'm part Scottish myself, so it was really cool to hear someone from Scotland. It was a very nice celebration.
