- This is an Instructional video on how to make a Positive Photograph on Glass using a Contact Printing Technique. Positive images on glass always leave me speechless with its sublime beauty and tangible nature. It's a fascinating process based on light transmission, with its own distinctive beauty that is pretty easy to accomplish. All you need is a Negative, some fresh Dry Plates, Light Source and Darkroom Chemistry. Just follow me along and I will guide you through the whole process including the materials & chemistry you need, exposure, processing and different ways of presentation. Now get everything ready and let's start!

you literally just saved me and my graduation project. grateful
Amazing thanks 😊
so simple that I didnt think of it, awesome
gonna use this for a school assigment, gonna make positive plates that I will then enlarge on an overhead projector
👍
Fabulous!!
Nice! Thank you!
You are welcome Jay :)
Always interesting and enjoyable to watch your work.
Thank you :)
This makes me so anxious to get my darkroom up! Thank you Nejc for the inspiration.
Yes, yes do it Trina do it :D
Good stuff!
Thanks Nikos :)
Im waiting for my intrepid but, when its here! Oh, you know I'll be purchasing some plates and a holder or two!
Amazing work.🔺
Cool 😎 Thank you for the kind words and I am glad you will become a part of Zebra family 🙌
Well done :)
I'm always learning something new from your videos Nejc
Thanks Francois I am glad you find them interesting and useful :)
Hello and thank you for all your hard word on dryplate, your videos are very interesting and informative. Please could you put the link to the 4x5 plate stand? the link in the description does not work anymore. Thanks a lot
Brilliant.
thank you 🙏
Great Video, soon I will test them
Thanks. Presale of Zebra Dry Plate Tintypes starts on 10.8. :)
Hi, thank you for all your brilliant videos. This might be a very stupid question but - is it possible to make the positive plate directly from an enlarged negative, without making the negative onto glass? Thank you!
Thank you for this informative video. The link to STL file does not work but I am wondering if the 4x5 plate holders can be purchased somewhere?
Thanks for sharing this! Can you also do this with the faster plates?
Sire but with much shorter exposure times ;)
Hello there! Thank you for this video. How do you recommend cleaning these glass plates after the photos are developed on the glass?
I have a series of photographs on glass and they are very dusty but I do not want to disturb the emulsion by improperly cleaning them. Suggestions?
Thanks for keeping these almost lost techniques alive.
Nice one Nejc. What happen to direct positiveprocessing that you did awhile back. Will youdo it again? Nice job!
Hey Reynaldo, I had to set it aside a bit as I just dont have time. I hope I will get back into it with my autochrome series that I wish to start with this year :)
Once again, the right video from you at the right time. Well done!
But the link for the holder does not seem to work. Please fix this. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Hey Charles. Yes I changed it with Dropbox link now so please check if you can download the file now?
Hey, I can make a positive by enlarge a 35mm negative onto the glass plate? It doesnt have to be contactprinted, right?
Excellent tutorial! Although the link to the plate stand file seems to be broken.
Hey Ray. Thanks for the kind words. Link works but only on a computer ;)
Hi, Nejc,
When you made the final exposure onto the dryplate in the video you used a glass negative, and you stated that the glass was heavy enough by itself and that no other glass was necessary (such as in conventional contact printing.)
My question is this: If I'm using a film negative, how will I maintain sufficient contact with the dryplate if I don't place glass on top?
Thanks! And keep up the great stream of videos!
Hey Robert,
Yes I mentioned it because I contact printed glass to glass but if you use film you should put another piece of glass over it. Maybe it would also be a good idea to put a piece of felt underneath the dry plate to minimise the chances of cracking.
Thank you and all the best,
Nejc
what percentage if isopropyl did you use?
Have you tried to tame the contrast? By pulling or/and using a mode dilute developer? I don't know what may work actually.
Haven't tried yet but been thinking about doing it. Will definitely try it out ;)
Getting the correct contrast was always a problem with this type of positive process. Special emulsions were made just for this purpose.
Can I use this to create an interpositive from a 35mm or 120 negative in my enlarger instead of contact printing like you did? My goal is to then use the positive glass plate in the enlarger to create enlarged paper negatives. Would this work? Thanks!
Short answer is yes you can do make a positive from an enlarged negative.
Can I print a glass plate negative on photo paper?
Was the developer you used to make this positive different that what you would normally use to develop a dry plate? If so, what is the name of the developing solution? thanks again, really enjoying watching and learning
Like always I was developing in Kodak HC110 😉
@@lostlightart6064 Thank you. There has been some discussion about the European version of HC100 versus the U.S. version. Some people say that the European version is not the same (that it's not as syrupy). What has been your experience? Do you dilute it at all? I also have a question about how long the plate is to sit in the developer. What will I be looking for so I know when it's ready to be taken out? I know an image will appear but what is the trick to knowing how long? And what happens if I leave it in there too long? I'm still learning. Thanks again.
Why not Stop Bath? Is it too harsh in the dry-plate emulsion?
Yeah emulsion and acid do not like each other much 😉
