On Monday night, Rafah in Gaza was alive with celebrations after Hamas announced its acceptance of a ceasefire proposal facilitated by Qatari and Egyptian mediators. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh confirmed the agreement involves a phased plan, elaborated further by Deputy Chief Khalil Al-Hayya in an interview with Al Jazeera. He disclosed that the plan features three 42-day phases, including a comprehensive Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
Despite this announcement, an unnamed Israeli official expressed concerns over the agreement, describing it as a watered-down version of an earlier Egyptian proposal. The official highlighted elements that were deemed unacceptable to Israel.
Meanwhile, Israel's military spokesperson emphasized that negotiations regarding hostages in Gaza are taken seriously. Simultaneously, operations will continue in the Hamas-ruled territory.
