I'm an happy owner of the TR-8S. It's an amazing drum machine capable of a rich palette of sounds : from the most credible virtual recreation of the classic Roland TR sounds (808, 909, 606, 707, 727 as well as modified versions), Fm drum synthesis and samples (factory or user's). The unit screams playability, it's made for performance first. Still it provide deep controls in its menu. But the edit menu it not always the easiest to use...
That is way this new FREE software editor for the TR-8s is just the perfect companion to the TR-8s. When in production mode or sound design mode this editor is showing you all aspects hidden in the menu on your screen.

Excellent demonstration of the editor. Saved me a lot of time trying to figure it out - Thanks! Hopefully Roland will add sample loading and a librarian in the future.
The one major feature that everyone actually wants. Classic modern Roland.
What's missing? That big green button flashing above your head, and that you're almost touching with your left index finger. Can't believe this was missed. Hopefully an update some time.
What would be great would be a function to drag and drop your created instrument or pattern into a DAW like you can do with Maschine.
Still looking for that option too…

Thanks for the video Nu-Trix! I don't have the TR-8S and am researching it, but I already understood that removing patterns and kits or creating an empty version is a hassle (I like a mostly empty unit so I can build my own library). I was hoping this could be done easily with the editor, but despite Roland calling this the "standalone graphical editor and librarian", it doesn't seem possible in the way I expected. That's too bad. The ability to load samples via USB and create kits and patterns while working in the editor would make it ideal.
SD card is still the best way to load samples in the TR-8s.
Can't believe they left out sample management. 🤦♂️ Pretty much the only reason I would pull the software up. Especially since every single one of it's features can be done on the machine. I'd hope it's coming in a future update. Knowing Roland, they left it off on purpose. So that they can drop it as an update.. And get everyone over to their site at once to see a new product. ;)

Alwaus wanted a ´real´ redrum from reason. This is all that, and some more. Just wonder, is it worth it if you already have a maschine plus. Pro´s are more hardware tracks, the original sounds from 909 808 606 etc...the fm drumsynth, the fx, connect m+ to the ins and apply effects, ofload some cpu from maschine plus. Cons are the price, and the sample loading isn´t that fluid from what i have read. Wonder if i would choose this one, or the sp404mk2, different machines but i would love the sp because it can run on batterys and i can attach a mic and sample everything outside and inside, and the fx are great also, and it has step recording. We´re so spoiled these days, thinking 20 years back the choices were alot more limited lol.
Nice Video. Well done! Could I access all there parameters from the TR8S without using the editor ?. My old MacBook Pro with OSX High Sierra 10.13 doesn't support the editor.

Always a pleasure learning from you 😌 I have only one question for ya ..since I mainly use the tr8s for creating drum patterns in the studio (and not in a live situation) and time and work flow are major factors- can I export or extract midi file or write midi patterns straight to my daw (cubase) using the machine or the editor? this would be a game changer… I do use the TR but always with audio. This could make things much easier!

@@Nu-trix would setting it up within a drum rack achieve this outcome, someone has a video out there with it rigged that way
there's a way but it's not ideal, if you own a TR machine from the Roland Cloud (or Roland Cloud subscription), the tr8s is mapped to work with that TR machine, so if you make your pattern on the TR8S it'll also be on the vst in your DAW, and from the VST you can drag midi

@@KitCatStudio great !! you need to install the driver but then it automatically map the you use any TR drum machine as a vst and it reproduces everything you do on the TR8S, it's pretty cool :D
the only thing thats really missing from this is the ability to create a pattern using the various instruments then drag the pattern into your DAW as MIDI, which is odd as you can do this with the TR909 VST but not with the TR8S Editor.
It wouldn't even matter if it was only the MIDI notes and their relative positions that were dragged across, it would still be a big time saver not having to record each channel as audio then recreate each instrument track and hit as MIDI.
You can record the midi out from the TR8s
With a mv-1 verselab does this add to great extension for creating a song. Can you have more possibilities to layer sounds. Are the sd cards swappable?
The two devices complement each other, but I’m not sure the data is swappable . The TR-8S can load samples but the MC-707 is based on Zenology synthesis .

Do tr-8s come up for sale in Montreal used? I haven’t seen any in Vancouver for a long time but I’m considering a tr-8 which I can get for $300 to $350. I’m thinking about selling my mc-101 (I’m not using its portability) since Roland Cloud does the same. The playability of a tr-8/8s/6s would be great though. Any advice in these? The 8s looks amazing but probably too much $$ for me. Would you go 6s or 8?
I prefer the TR-8s, but the TR-6s would be a great upgrade from the MC-101 (performance wise). I have no clue about the second market because I’m not looking for one !!

where to find the editor,?!?! in my rolandcloud manager folder is no tr editor file.. they have not made it easy for the users
In Roland cloud manager, when you click install beside the TR-8s editor it should be installed in you application folder.

Also, need to know what is the oldest OS X that is compatible with this editor, I am running El Capitan, and it does not support it.

how would i load my own samples/kit? and have the machine always on that kit?
You put your sample on an SD card. Put the address Card in the TR-8s. Then in the menu find the import option. It should stay in the tr internal memory.

hi everybody , this software work on Mac with M1 ??? because I updated the machine to firmware 2.03, but the software still does not recognize it...:(
From Roland Web site, they say it works on MAC OS 10.15 or MAC OS 11 with no info about M1.
Did you try with a different USB cable?

They really are not the same . In short the MC-707 is a whole music production box running Zenology synthesis (including samples) vs the TR-8S is a performance drum machine made to play live that includes ACB technology (for an accurate recreation of the TR-808, 909, 606, 707, 727 )+ fm drum synthesis and samples. Not a whole music production machine … more of a advanced drum machine.
It does work connected into the MX1

Il peut être installé à partir de Roland cloud Manager. Il se trouve dans votre dossier applications.
Me and other users are having USB connection problem with TR-Editor. Even though everything is up to date and the hardware is working perfectly, the TR-Editor does not recognize the TR8S. There are several reports like mine in forums for over a year and until today Roland has not given any solution.
Does the TR-8s appears as a MIDI device in others apps on the computer (like a DAW)? What os is being used? MAC OS 10, 11, 12, Windows 7, 10?
@@Nu-trix Hi, thanks for the reply. Your videos helped me a lot. I tested it on Win 10 and 11, on both it didn't work, even the DAWs recognizing the TR as MIDI and Audio Interface. But, i kept trying and suddenly the computer recognized it. Bizarre. I don't understand what happened, maybe win has put some incompatible update. It remains to be seen whether at some point it will stop recognizing again.
Have you tried with another USB cable?
Does this work on the original TR-8?

these roland drum sounds sound all thin imo. not at all punchy. an old drumulator w/rock drums eprom set kills them easily.
Lack of contouring params on the acb sounds is just.......pathetic.
