NO WAY!!!
A REAL EASPORTWRC CHANEL COMMENTED???
They know that they are about to sue you😂
Wow!!! what are you doing here 😯
@@Matthew_3WWWChannel mate if only their developers worked as hard as their cms.
I like that the 2000's graphics are now considered as an art style. 😎
Closer to 95-98 playststion 1 era. Early 2000s would be ps2,dreamcast,xbox,gamecube.
The xbox 360, ps3 era started in 2006. Both 2000s era are far beyond what we have here
I love it! Less resources on graphics, more resources on gameplay. We forget that we used to call games like these "photorealistic". Now we say games look like shit because one pixel is off 😂
@@Haulinbassracing 6th-gen will have it's day as well, I'm sure. I'm cool with everyone taking their time to appreciate every era. In 10 years you'll basically get to play anything you want on whatever platform spanning the entirety of videogame history. Only trade-off will be what's lost when you don't play on the original hardware (including television and A/V components)
I mean look at old school runescape that is based on runescape from 2007 I can see more game developers start making games that were actually fun to play from an era
They used to call these graphics realistic, but that aged like milk. Call it an artistic style, though, and now it lives on incredibly well.
major colin mcrae rally 2.0 vibes
also Sega Rally of course ehehe !
That scan line effect on the course preview shot brought back some memories! CMR2.0 was suich a cool game for its time, still have my original disc from over 20 years ago!
If we have Sega Rally as the track 90s style with Colin McRae's or Dirt 2.0 rally style, it will be fun to drive through courses.
I dont like modern rally games because they dont have the same vibes like retro style and the terrains are awfully bad designed like when you tried to corner the sharp turns, there are some weird annoying hitboxes that will hit your car and as result, your car will either crash or spinned out which takes lots of precious time to recover.
Thats why I prefer PS1 and PS2 rally games where course/terrains are more fun and predictable but at same time, physics can be unpredictable too.
The first one ! Because the Subaru wasn't the narrow agressive headlights model in 2.0 !!!
Same here
We are at the point where a single person or a team of like 2-4 devs, can make a game I played when I was a kid, for a modern system.
Amazing
And do it better than a team of 1000 and a budget of 400 million
@@Jaguar21010riding a bit there lmao
@@wrijeNo he’s right. Passion will always triumph greed. You can have the fanciest graphics and the most intricate NPC interactions, but there is no better fun playing a game where you can see the effort put into the development.
@@VersoTai those older rally games we all loved were made by large studios so it's weird to deride them after the fact
@@darudesandstorm7002 True but let’s be real here, most studios back then made amazing games because it was a new flourishing market. As it evolved over generations, game studios really started to get comfortable with squeezing as much money as they possibly can out of the player. It isn’t just the nostalgia, unfortunately the gaming has changed. There are exceptions of course, but the majority of content fed to gamers nowadays is just glorified slop.
Colin McRae PS1 Vibes...I literally just finished it today with a tear in my eye because Ive never done it till now. This is perfect

0:21 Wow. The pulsating pavement/ground gave me insane "Instant Replay" vibes from my childhood. This is amazing.
Yes!! I remember that detail from a snowboard game i had
There's some nice explanation of this effect on YT. It was present on PSX only due to some specific rendering system there
Impressive attention to detail with that addition
@@mount.fujikama i think its called affine texture warping or somethinh
@@ZakiAsir No that's a different effect - this one is vertex snapping - an effect present because the PS1 could only have corners of polygons occupy exact centres of pixels. This is barely noticeable at the native resolution of the console, but old emulators would generate the effect seen in the video because the polygons would snap to the original points even when the game was rendered at higher resolution. This has been solved in recent years in most emulators using something called "pxgp" that bypasses the PS1's imprecise gpu coordinates and replaces them with the precise ones calculated before the GPU snaps them to pixels.
This is what developers need to strive for. Gone are the days of people caring about the graphics, just make games fun, less buggy, and able to be played on computers that dont cost $3000 and the gaming industry will rise again.
The wobbly textures are on point.. 😂 It would be awesome if this would also have a 1st person cockpit and VR option!!
It has 1st person.
they are not
PS1 accurate for sure
I think with those graphics VR would be unbearable. To make experience more authentic it should be playable only on a keyboard :D
@@kamael1125 VR is a really subjective thing but I've played games of similar visual fidelity in VR and as long as the framerate keeps steady and nothing bugs out, the graphical quality doesn't actually matter too much. Just like you can get immersed on a pancake screen, having the screen strapped to your face doesn't really change that.
Now a VR driving game does somewhat necessitate a controller setup, preferably driving wheel... because good luck using a keyboard you can't see while under pressure.
We are more and more going back to the "old" games, that means something...
it means nostalgia
@@RelyksJno it doesn’t. It means they were actually made better back then.
People like you who just blame nostalgia are either ignorant or didn’t grow up a gamer around those times.

It is everywhere now... I don't mind but as a phenomenon I find it interesting. Most likely because the devs are now in their 30s and 40s.
We need more games like this, actually genuine attempts to recreate the limited render quality aesthetics of older games. Not just slapping a 32 bit pixel filter over the textures and randomly halving the polygon count on models to make it looks retro. Even the gameplay looks incredibly faithful to the weighted cars of early rally games, I hope this team find great success and this project shows more teams this style of games are still wanted and are profitable! Good luck!
I still remember playing your Crimelife series on YoyoGames, this is an amazing step up in your journey as a developer. I also just love the aesthetic and the gameplay looks so fluid. I'm looking forward to this!
If this has modern multiplayer features, like online rally, leaderboards etc then it can be a hit among streamers.
Yea looking at this trailer it's like there's no modern twist to it. At this point why not just play the old game then😂
Ugh, idc about streamers. Id prefer people just enjoying a game themselves 💀
@@faizfrez2729 Literally what I was thinking watching this.
I seriously don't get it. If I feel nostalgic and want to play old school Colin McRae Rally... I'll play Colin McRae Rally, not some imitation that brings nothing new.

Why wait? You do realise you could've just bought a PS1 and Colin McRae Rally this whole time? Games like this have been out for 25 years. 😅 I really don't understand this aesthetic of making a modern game look like it's from 1997, seems pointless. Unless it's a mobile game.
@@Travis-guy-247 Real gamers don`t look at graphics but how good game is, this how more people can play it because of low hardware demand nad much more easier to make game to new developers, win-win, and afcourse there is ton of people that will play it if it is good no matter the graphics.
@@Dagoth666Ur Graphics are a metric of how good a game is. In fact, I've found new games "spoil" old games for me, because of how good the graphics are now. I actually find old games less entertaining, because the dated graphics just take away from the experience. The only exception is revisiting games that I played in my youth (such as Colin McRae Rally or NFS Underground). The bad graphics on those add to the nostalgia. But if it's a game I haven't played before, I tend to find it less entertaining.
@@Travis-guy-247 Graphics are a metric of how good a game is??!! OMG! Are you serious?! Indie game scene just blew up few years back and most of indie games are with "bad" graphics, so what do you think why people play those games, because they are GOOD. @@Dagoth666Ur I never said Indie games were bad. Indie games with a particular aesthetic are absolutely fine, such as Descenders. The graphics on that aren't ground-breaking by any means, but they're still CURRENT. Graphics don't have to be amazing to be current, they just have to be smooth. The graphics in this are just straight up DATED. It literally looks like CMR1 on the PS1 back in 1998. It's pixelated to hell, and just looks lazy and awful.

Instantly into my steam wishlist. One suggestion: Crowds around the cars, for major group B vibes. Art of rally has a mechanic where they crowd around you but you can’t run them over, so something like that could work in order to not make the game rated M

i saw you post on Reddit and it got me curious to try old rally games. Ended up loving V-Rally 2 on the PS1. Can't wait for this man, it looks awesome!
YESSS, the Quattro is in!! Can't wait for the release! Incredible work
This _would_ ordinarily be one of those games that's so faithful games of the era and follows genre conventions to such an extent that you wonder why you'd play this over a similar game that already exists.
But given that none of these old racing games have gotten official updates for modern system and most you can't even buy anymore... yeah, this is a game that needed to exist.
These graphics are how you remember old racing games, but nostalgia always makes you forget the actual games had fog so you could only ever see 100yards ahead of you. I like this better.
Brings back the good memories!! Looks amazing cant wait to get it on steam. Already on my wishlist.
I still can't believe you're the creator of Crimelife
This is amazing
What I would love to see it would be first person driving (like with the low-poly gloves in mcrae iykyk), multiplayer, full customization (maybe adding your own '90s inspired decals from your own hard drive) . Either way I hope the best of him. It's so refreshing to see projects like that especially from a greek indie dev in which being a game dev in greece isn't really encouraged. Please, take your time and don't rush it! We'll all be here waiting!
I have never seen an indie game that emulates my childhood PS2 and Xbox games so perfectly.
*Good fucking Lord.*
I've been following you since Crimelife 1! keep it up!
Richard Burns Rally is completely free, and it's touted as the king of rally sims with the most realistic handling of any rally game. It's graphics aren't far off from this game, so I'm curious to hear what sets this game apart other than the unique style choice...
Richard Burns Rally has issues related to its age. As good as the physics are, it's a hassle to get it going, and the quality of the courses and cars is wildly varying.
Other than the fact it's free (due to being abandonware), you're waffling absolute nonsense. Then again, I doubt you've ever looked at updating RBR with mods or anything that would make the game playable on modern systems.
we don't really want realistic handling here, this is meant to be an arcade rally game
This is an arcade rally game more reminiscent of collin mcrae rally for the ps1. Idk where you got the whole "my sim is better than this arcade game" from my guy.
dumb comment
There hasn't been a great arcade rally game in a long time. I still go back and play Rallysport Challenge on the original xbox just to get that great feeling again. If this game has a satisfying feeling to control I will love it
I played hundreds of hours of 2000s Colin Mcrae Rally games as a kid and through to adulthood. This is probably the most exciting game releasing im looking forward to.
Awesome job!
Indie racing games are always the best
I really love how indies' style finally went from 2D to ps1/ps2 3D, there is already too many 2D indies out there and while I know there is a lot of 2D indie gems, it's time to give retro 3D the love it deserves!
My dream retro throwback wishlist:
Rock solid 60fps
No pop in, draw distance issues
Everything else exactly the same as 90s games. Same blocky polygons and textures, same physics, same color pallettes, even the same resolution would be fine by me with nearest neighbor upscaling an option
one thing i absolutely loved about the old colin mcrae rally was that it had an in-cab view, IN A PS1 GAME. I hope you'll do that, doesn't have to be complicated.
The soundtrack better be Rally House I swear to god
I mean, it would be kinda cool but this visual style or at least this colour palette does not match that. The aesthetics need to be a bit more dulled down as if we're seeing it trough an old 90s broadcast. Even today cameras may not be able to show the true brightness/saturation of the colours of a race car's livery.

I appreciate the dedication to the 90s aesthetic but I think some fancier lighting can really give the game a huge bump aesthetically and make it look more polished overall. (Kinda like how Octopath Traveler uses pixel art with fancy lighting engines and other stuff)

thankfully no one’s nostalgic about the load times of that era! Still remember waiting forever while nfs loaded on the ps1
I really think a game like this has an opportunity to have more fun with the rally genre. I'd love to see future updates that adds crazier cars, new modes, wild tracks that you would never see in the WRC (a Moon/Mars location would be tonnes of fun). I would personally love to see a game which blends solid physics and mechanics with more adventurous features, and a 90s-inspired rally game feels like a perfect fit.
Agreed! The rally genre has huge untapped potential. I'm so unbelievably tired of the developers just recreating boring real-world-constrained rally tracks. Ad banners and ugly crowds to go with it. What a travesty we haven't had any rally games that put fun first.
@@Visstnok environment art is not what makes a rally game fun or not, it's the driving and the mechanics behind the game. it can be a BeamNG map with dev textures and it'd be fun. Dirt Rally had fun driving but the rally mechanics were too simplistic; no incentive to keep a healthy car throughout a series of long stages. Making a stage on the moon or mars or set in Skyrim is a fun little gimmick but that can't carry a game.
@@Freezorgium Environment art isn't what makes it, but it can certainly detract from it. What I want from a rally game is more leaps of faith, more alternative paths, more slippery ice. Just something that's not Richard McGeneric Rally Championship for once.
You and me both!
@@Freezorgium That's to you. And there's certainly an audience who appreciate a realistic rally sim, but the general public also loves a good arcade game, and what's wrong with those? If you want RBR then just play RBR and if you want realism, go and become an actual rally driver.
This looks awesome. Love the vibrant colors and graphics style. Great work! Side note: Is there a cockpit view in the game? If so, would yall consider adding VR and wheel support? I feel like due to the retro graphics style, this game might run really well in VR, unlike other VR racing games. I know the VR community is not huge but if the game is fun and unique and has good VR support, people would jump on it.
Why?... Everything would look "flat" anyway. XD
@@michaelmonstar4276 Why? Because VR is awesome. Realistic graphics are not what make something look 3D.

This is what I mean when I say I miss when games felt like a game! Simulators and realistic graphics have there place with many great simulating games, even games like RDR2 which isn’t a simulator, but could be played as one with how realistic it is. I just miss having fun on the ps1, and ps2, even the Xbox 360. Super thankful to have a ps2 still, and definitely picking up a 360 sometime this year. Anyhow, this looks amazing and like loads of fun! It reminds me of playing gran turismo on the ps1!
Thanks for bringing this style back. I want this game!
I love the aesthetic of this. Modern racing games with state of the art visuals are so often less fun than early 2000’s games because they lack… something.
That being said, this game better run beautifully smooth because it has no excuses for lag 😂
