This is what I'm talking about. Right price and looks perfectly fine. I ran my Dreamcast on composite and then s-video back in the late 90's. Some time later I did do VGA which was of course a huge improvement. But DCHDMI? Honestly, screw that. Not only does it cost an arm and a leg for the thing including installation (because you know most of us would screw that install up...so you have to pay someone to do that for you) but what you are getting is not all that much better than something like this. And, if the Dreamcast you have the DCHDMI ever dies on you, good luck getting it transplanted out of that system and into a replacement system. With this, just plug it in to your modern TV and away you go. Dreamcast died? No sweat, plug it into a replacement Dreamcast console. The way to go in my book.

We had about 30x people test it (sent out free samples) and the overall response was really great, albeit a few tweaks to brightness etc. Watch this space it’s coming soon! We made XOSVP connector as well (open source version) but again struggling to get it out there due to manufacturing issues. However I honestly think our HDMI is better. We compared to XOSVP as that’s considered the best at present of the plug and plays.....
I just left a review of the gamecube adaptor on Amazon, fantastic product I am now a believer, and want the Dreamcast and PS2 adaptors ,the OG Xbox cable is a no brainer for me, keep up the good work kaico
I still hope someone will make an HDMI for Dreamcast that plays 100% of the games. Like why focus on VGA *ONLY* ? Why not convert S-Video to HDMI? Make a switch so we can choose VGA or S-Video, this will be compatible with ALL Dreamcast games. Now take this idea and mke some money. I would if I knew how.
The problem is it needs basically two devices, an S-Video 480i to HDMI converter and a VGA 480p converter, and it would increase the cost, plus it’s not many games that don’t support VGA. But I agree I’m shocked no one has done that.
The ultimate test for this HDMI adapter is: > Can you see any noise in the picture, as well as audio buzz ? > Is the image automatically centered on screen ( Many HDMI adapters fail at this )
Old comment, but I do hear a buzz with the volume up loud. Video is centered just fine... There does appear to be some slight noise in the picture, but my TV corrected that with a noise reduction setting. I honestly might just have a bit of noise because I'm using a modded PSU though.
Some things to note, as I don't think they where covered... The cable has some sort of start-up lag, not sure if this is common with all upscaling devices but you will never be able to see the start screen in its entirety. Also there was a few issues I had with a 6 core Vizio smart tv. The screen would flash to black sporadically at random intervals. It was the only TV in my house I intended to use the DC on and it had that issue. My 46 inch Sony works just fine though. Just food for thought.

@@TheHandheldGamer it wont work with non vga enabled games unless you are running like patched versions of those games. Or using a code breaker to trick the system/game.
From the looks of it it does suffer from typical VGA sampling issues for Dreamcast, (caused by the 640x480 signal inside a 720x480 frame) as evidenced by slightly skinnier aspect ratio and blurrier video (especially pixel edges) when compared to the DCHDMI, but it’s surprisingly comparable. I think if I didn’t have mine hooked up to a CRT monitor I would probably use this, I expect this would be more than good enough for most users who don’t want to mod or spend lots of money and don’t have VGA ports on their displays. It’s certainly better than most cheap adaptors like the Pound cable, some models of which horrifically distort the colours. It’s a shame that no one has made a cable like this that can handle the weird resolution the DC uses, it shouldn’t be too hard as the OSSC has a scaled that can do it, it just needs to use DTV protocols rather than treating it as a PC signal, and then it would just need to convert that into a true 640x480 HDMI signal would completely resolve the issue.
my XBox2HDMI display 640x480 in a 720x480, but that's how some games are, like PSO on XBox, it use the 720x480 resolution, but it displays in 640x480, there's no aspect ratio warping but you can still see where the rest of the "720" would be, but that's no big deal. On Dreamcast though, i believe all the games can display up to 640x480, and not 720x480. If you have any concrete proof of some games on Dreamcast are being displayed in 720x480, please show me. Keep in mind, back then, widescreens weren't widespread like today, and the best solution to have the best picture possible was using a VGA monitor, where all of the consumers had were 4:3 in aspect ratio. Some LCD monitors were 4:3 like the 15inch, 20.1inch and 21.3inch, but the latters are much harder to find, and quite frankly i would just use a more modern monitor in HDMI with IPS panel and able to display aspect ratio correctly instead of force-stretching the picture.
Just got mine in last night and tried it out a few minutes ago. I like it. The picture looks good. I have seen some jailbars on some black backgrounds. Using the GDEmu and turning it on & off to load another game, my TV sometimes has trouble picking up the signal again. Seems if I slow the process down, it comes back. Once, I got a black screen (not a 'no signal' message) but I'm impressed with it otherwise. The HDMI socket seems to be a bit loose on the unit I have. Hopefully it doesn't have an issue later on. EDIT: just for those that want to know, my screen shows the resolution as 640x480. No upscaling.
That's interesting, I think that's technically incorrect. It should be displaying at a 720x480p DTV resolution and it sounds like this is still interpreting it as VESA. To be fair, I think it's mostly a tv thing and I'm not sure if these plug and play boxes can do anything about it. As far as I know, DCHDMI and correct OSSC settings are the only things that display it right. That being said though, there doesn't seem to be as much of the compressed vertical noise of some other cables based on this video, or at least it's hard to notice on RUclips.
It's good! I first got the Dreamcast one and was so happy with it that I tried out the ps2 version. Thinking about getting one for the OG Xbox now lol.

The PlayStation cable sucks because the port on the back of the PS2 and PS1 aren't able to carry enough data. The Dreamcast pretty much has a serial port. This is why the Dreamcast, XBOX, and GameCube HD adapters make the picture look amazing. They all have serial ports.
Between this and the GDEMU I ordered, I should bring back life to a dreamcast i just got that the drive is bad. Console turns on but the drive sounds something on crack. Got the emu for 55 bucks and got the air flow 3D printed for 20 bucks, adding this to it is like the sweet spot bro.

I know this is coming in late but can you answer something for me? Does this adapter work with a modded console that has had a resistor put on it's 12v line? I saw in another video that it won't work if your 12 volt is disabled but I find that to be a little sus.
Hi, I’ve just bought this cable and I have to say that although the picture looks very good, I see a lot of “jail bars” like you’ve mentioned in your video at 7:50. It’s the same model as you reviewed, do I don’t know if my cable is faulty or if there’s something wrong with it. I’m thinking of buying a new one to see if I get one without “jail bars” or not. Thanks!
Awesome review Ron! Does this adapter allow you to see the entire Dreamcast Intro? I l know with the pound cable and any av to HDMI converter it won't display picture or sound after approx. 2 seconds.
there another that looks simular to Kiaco I purchase it is called Brtfunx I hooked it and the screen was black and the video quality was poor it only worked on sega menu but ones you played any game the screen will turn black I return the item right away so I purchase kiako next hopefully it won't give me the same experience
oh man, I am so disappointed. I have a similar no-name adapter (BitFunX - the old version) and the biggest issue is the aspect ratio and how it treats the VGA signal during conversion. The dreamcast has a resolution of 720x480p, but many of these VGA to HDMI scalers treat the signal as 640x480 making the screen slimmer than it should be. This isn't such a big deal in itself, however this also disrupts the moire/dither pattern caused by the 16-bit color output in many dreamcast games. You can see the effect in the Crazy Taxi title screen footage on the black and yellow pixel dotted line at the bottom left. I was hoping that the KAICO would solve this, because it looked really promising from a couple of videos I have seen. but it probably uses the same VGA to HDMI chip as the one I already have. Quality is great with the adapter, but the resolution-conversion/aspect ratio is causing problems.
Mine doesn't do 4:3, mine is in 16:10 like our old PAL CRT TVs (a.k.a. the Wideboi TVs) Think a mid point between 16:9 and 4:3 except both scale perfectly to it without distortion
Just tested it today and it is doing the job much better than the original scart i have, especially if you don't have an audio system aside BUT for those using external audio on their modern TV (me using a Bose system ARC), well the sound only arrives on the speakers of the TV and not on my Bose. It means that it is not 100 % plug n play. I guess it is the VGA technology that does that, unlike the Hyperkin Hdmi I have on my Saturn for exemple. I guess i will have to go for another system like YUV for the Dreamcast.
@@Retr0N1x Are you positive about that? If they perform as good as this then that's great. For any gamer not anal about having the best upscaler or converter, these cheap transcoders work fine, and the picture quality is pretty good, even on a 4K tv. Are they as good as an OSSC, Framemeister or DCHDMI? No, but they still work well and look good for the price.
Hey @Madlittlepixel I plan on getting my Dreamcast repaired and fully very soon through Dragon's Hoard Gaming, in addition to them installing the DCHDMI. Did they install new parts inside your Dreamcast? Because mines is in desperate need of a new laser and lens, a new fan and basically a replacement of anything that made my console completely crap out nearly 20 years ago.
I cant scientifically test lag, and lag is also going to be dependant on your model of TV. Lag for this? Felt exactly the same to me as plugging the console in via the DCHDMI. I really only talk lag if it is extremely perceivable to me.
@@Madlittlepixel seriously felt the same as plugging in your console via the DCHDMI? That's pretty big. However. I'd be VERY surprised if while good and a fraction of the cost of a DCHDMI mod this doesn't introduce at least 2-3 frames of lag.

I have two flat screen HDTVs with a VGA port. I'm still not sure if I should get a cable set up for my Dreamcast to plug directly into VGA, or go with a VGA to HDMI. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thank you.
Honestly I know this sounds crazy but I get a crisper picture out of this Kaico device for the Dreamcast than I do with the 5xPro. I have two different scart cables for the Dreamcast that I’ve tested as well. If you have a 5xpro, what settings do you have it set up for with Dreamcast? I’m so shocked because it definitely shouldn’t be that way.
The reason for that is because some of these cables draw from the VGA signals and some games dont support that. You gotta look up which games arent compatible

I know this is coming in late but can you answer something for me? Does this adapter work with a modded console that has had a resistor put on it's 12v line? I saw in another video that it won't work if your 12 volt is disabled but I find that to be a little sus.
But is there any lag? That's usually the problem with these hdmi adapters...
Not that I have noticed
Hi, I’ve just bought this cable and I have to say that although the picture looks very good, I see a lot of “jail bars” like you’ve mentioned in your video at 7:50. It’s the same model as you reviewed, do I don’t know if my cable is faulty or if there’s something wrong with it. I’m thinking of buying a new one to see if I get one without “jail bars” or not. Thanks!
Awesome review Ron! Does this adapter allow you to see the entire Dreamcast Intro? I l know with the pound cable and any av to HDMI converter it won't display picture or sound after approx. 2 seconds.
For me it did, but also I am using a GDEmu, but it played when I first powered the system on without delay.
there another that looks simular to Kiaco I purchase it is called Brtfunx I hooked it and the screen was black and the video quality was poor it only worked on sega menu but ones you played any game the screen will turn black I return the item right away so I purchase kiako next hopefully it won't give me the same experience
oh man, I am so disappointed.
I got one just before I saw this video. Mine didn’t come with the hdmi cable though :( I double checked the box.
This one looks good!
DO MORE DREAMCAST VIDS PLEASE
Seeing some game incompatibilities for non supported vga games? Hydro Thunder, seeing if you had that problem with any of your games. Thanks.
What capture card is being used? My elgato hd60 will not work with this adapter as the 640×480 resolution output isnt supported
Mine doesn't do 4:3, mine is in 16:10 like our old PAL CRT TVs (a.k.a. the Wideboi TVs)
Think a mid point between 16:9 and 4:3 except both scale perfectly to it without distortion
I noticed that in the US, 4:3 were more common while here, the 16:10 pre-widescreen TVs were moreso.
Just tested it today and it is doing the job much better than the original scart i have, especially if you don't have an audio system aside
BUT
for those using external audio on their modern TV (me using a Bose system ARC), well the sound only arrives on the speakers of the TV and not on my Bose. It means that it is not 100 % plug n play. I guess it is the VGA technology that does that, unlike the Hyperkin Hdmi I have on my Saturn for exemple.
I guess i will have to go for another system like YUV for the Dreamcast.
Does it work with resident evil code Veronica for Dreamcast?
It works great with my tv but not my capture card. What capture card did you use for this vid?
I have never nor ever probably will have a dreamcast, but still watched... why?
I play this rush 2049 with vga converter on my Dreamcast . Does this HDMI converter do audio and video as reviews very on weather it does or not
Are u sure there isn't a retrotink in there! Lol!
@@Retr0N1x Are you positive about that? If they perform as good as this then that's great. If your saying those are garbage and so is this one, I'm not so sure about your assumption when taking in consideration the positive feedback from reputable sources. Looks to me from this very video a very good cable.
this is just a rebranded bitfunx product, just like the retrotink2x clone, just look on aliexpress
@@Retr0N1x Well if someone can get the same quality for cheaper than that is great news. I have not purchased any products from this company, but know of the retrotink showing. That's how I even learned the company existed. It does appear they backed quietly away from that situation.
@@Retr0N1x BTW thanks for the info.
I still need to sort my DC battery out, I'm too chicken and don't want to mod / cut into the chasis etc to change / replace it. :(
I've seen kaico ossc on Amazon. I'm guessing they are a decent company. Their products look what pound want to be
yes and no...
They thought making a retrotink clone was a good idea even though its not open source like other products...
Didn't know that. Just had a look through their website and they've got a PS2 and Xbox adapter
@@johnmorris7899 I believe they cancelled the retrotink clone after My life in gaming called them out so idk at this point.
Looks pretty solid hdmi adapter. Any leads on a wireless controller for Dreamcast?
Look up the DreamConn controller. Bluetooth modded OEM controller, but it’s pricey 😟
UK Amazon out of stock :(
Ah nuts...
I don't like that you can't plug it into the controller.
Why not just use a VGA to HDMI adapter?
Which is better between Kaico and Bitfunx?
As far as I know they are the same products from the same company.
I'm pissed that Skies of Arcadia and RE Code Veronica wont work with this :((((((((((
Plug n play. For me is good
Does it work with Utopia boot?? I tried mine and it didnt work with HDMI :(
The Kaico adapter seems to be sold out everywhere. Anyone know when / where it will be available again?
So does this work with Elgato HD60?
I'm surprised and a bit disappointed here. No lag testing?
I cant scientifically test lag, and lag is also going to be dependant on your model of TV. Lag for this? Felt exactly the same to me as plugging the console in via the DCHDMI. I really only talk lag if it is extremely perceivable to me.
@@Madlittlepixel seriously felt the same as plugging in your console via the DCHDMI? That's pretty big. However. I'd be VERY surprised if while good and a fraction of the cost of a DCHDMI mod this doesn't introduce at least 2-3 frames of lag.
Does this work with an Elgato HD60 for you? Have some massive problems :(
Will this work with the original Elgato HD game capture?
this was my question too. were you able to find that out some other way by chance?
Bought it and not all Dreamcast games work😢
I have this adopter and it works very well.
I wonder how. Kaico hdmi adapter compares to vga cable to OSSC?
I get vertial "jailbars" whenever the screen fades and I can vaguely see them during regular play, any advice?
Does the Kaico HDMI cable produce the blue back group screen on either side of the 4/3 picture???
did they send you a ps2 version to test out ?
They did but I told them prior to sending it that I dont have a working PS2 at the moment. So im unable to test for a bit until I get one and a few games.
Does it work with elgato HD60 S for streaming? I’m having that issue right now with the pound cable, can’t stream it.
Which are the 20 Games that do work with VGA?
I have two flat screen HDTVs with a VGA port. I'm still not sure if I should get a cable set up for my Dreamcast to plug directly into VGA, or go with a VGA to HDMI. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thank you.
So this can bypass the cord waring saying this one isnt compatibility
is this better then pound ?
At 91$ I would just do the hard mod not worth it I think
Honestly I know this sounds crazy but I get a crisper picture out of this Kaico device for the Dreamcast than I do with the 5xPro. I have two different scart cables for the Dreamcast that I’ve tested as well. If you have a 5xpro, what settings do you have it set up for with Dreamcast? I’m so shocked because it definitely shouldn’t be that way.
Are the cables from things like retro gaming cables or is it one of those cheap ebay ones?
I could be wrong here but I think you are seeing 480i over scart whereas the Kaico is using a 480p signal over VGA.
I have a Pound HDMI adapter, second edition. Wondering if this fixes the darker coloring issues
Kaico is much better
How do you make the picture fit on an hd tv? My screen looks like a tiny box but in HD.
I’m still using my Tommee VGA cable...
Does the Kelco cable work with all DC games? This was a big problem with the Pound cable as their were about 50 games that it couldn't play.
The reason for that is because some of these cables draw from the VGA signals and some games dont support that. You gotta look up which games arent compatible
There is a new version of this
Any link bro?
What about games that are not VGA compatible like bang o
Does it work with games that are not VGA compatible??
Why is there no music on the character select screen on Soulcaliber ?
He chose so fast there wasn't a chance to hear anything but "welcome back to the stage of history". If you meant the title screen, there isn't music there on there anyway
Bought it and not all Dreamcast games work
Does it work on the Elgato as well?
But does it run Gunbird 2? Most of these HDMI cables can't run it.
Nope. Doesn't run that, JoJo, or Dino Crisis. I wish there were a cable that let me run nin-VGA compatible games.
I have this and while it works great playing on the T.V., it is in no way compatible with HD60 model of the elgato capture cards. How did this guy record game footage, can someone tell me?
I either used the internal elgato cap card or the hd60 S, those are only two I have had for a while now but don't remember which was used here.
I want something like this for my ps2 and Kaico has it but it requires usb power,
Just power it off the ps2 itself
what's the best SD upscaler for use in combination with the HDMI adapter?
mCable
does this help with the color difference between the dc output and my tcl roku tv? for example I got nightmare creatures two not to long ago and I went to play it and everything is so extremely dark that it is unplayable no matter how I adjust the settings on my tv. I was looking into one of these to see if that might be able to help out with that. Can anyone chime in?
What's the first game you showcased?
That's San Fransisco Rush 2049
Can not play Resident Evil: Code name veronica with this hdmi
you can, use NTSC-U version of the game, PAL-E is TV only
What driving game was that? The first game?
Rush 2049. Pretty fun little game.
