  • The "code 82" came up on this car again and it had an oil change 12 months previously so it was the perfect opportunity to give the car a service as well. I sourced the parts from my local Vauxhall dealer (JCT600 in Bradford) and I'd like to point out that I've NOT been sponsored by them or Vauxhall. I paid the normal price which was quite reasonable and probably on a par with good quality aftermarket items. Anyway I hope you enjoy this video and I hope it helps anyone who is considering a service on the Astra J.
PLEASE NOTE: I'm just a DIY mechanic. I try to do things correctly but sometimes I have to manage with what I have. Please treat this video as a "how-I-did-it" rather than a "how-to".
The engine code on this car is A14XER

I just thought I'd let you know that I'm going to redo this video from scratch as I still have the original footage. Once it has been uploaded. I'll post the link. I'll be keeping this video up as well.

i think you might be a bit carefully. it's raining and you are refilling oil (with oil plug open), the whole engine open and drained oil to the engine.

I have an astra j 1.4 non turbo and the engine code is A14xer, I change my oil every 6 months and use good quality oil. Want to hopefully avoid the dreaded timing chain issues!

You're doing the right thing there. Genuine parts from the dealer aren't always expensive so they're worth a try.

Great video I was looking for something like this. To make it easier to find and get.more views I would add that it's a vauxhall astra J or k and also I would change your thumbnail picture to a picture of the astra so people see the model, as I went past this a few time as I thought it was the old.model astra. Keep it up

Thanks for your comment. I haven't got the hang of thumbnails yet (I just let YT do it automatically) but I've amended the title so that potential viewers know. I know the Astra K came out not long after this car was built.

Parknest thanks great and keep it up. You may want to type in on RUclips on how to change your thumbnail. As you do have the only comprehensive serv8ce video for astra K. So you may have a gem.on your hands. Also don't forget to out your tags on your video.

It isn't my car. You can see my Citroen C4 Grand Picasso parked over the road at the start of the video. The owner has sold the Astra and now has an F30 BMW 3 Series which may be featured in future videos.

You need to learn to take your time, that way silly things like dripping oil everywhere and dropping spark plugs won't happen, also using the engine block as a resting place for tools and parts is an accident waiting to happen
