I got diagnosed with enlarged prostate about five years ago. Usual symptoms, decreased stream strength, getting up in the middle of the night and dribbling. Decided to try natural remedies before going down the prescription drug route. I take pumpkin seed oil, Saw Palmetto, and stinging nettle root. Pretty much all the symptoms have gone. I never get up in the middle of the night anymore and the dribbling has stopped. My stream is better too. I also take Tongkat Ali. Using that has had a surprising side effect. I was beginning to show minor signs of male pattern baldness but since using Tongkat Ali it has reversed and my hair is almost back to it’s previous fullness.

I had reached the point of having to wake up and urinate around 4 times every night. Upon watching health videos by another fellow, whose focus is on correcting insulin resistance (and is big on a healthy version of keto), I decided to try reducing as much as possible all sugars, grains, and starches. Just 3 nights later, I slept the whole night through, and have continued to do so. Also, unexpectedly, 3 weeks later, symptoms of ED remarkably reduced. After about 3 months, most of my fat has disappeared. And other ailments seem to be improving as well. I'm rather excited to see if other things improve too.

I have not actually done replacements. I don't think I have felt hunger more often. I might be eating more of the things that I don't avoid. But I'm no longer avoiding fatty meats. And I do not often go for lean meats anymore. That might make some difference.

@@flash522gp, first, even when I was young, I saw the obvious flaw in the argument that fat that is solid at room temperature clogs your arteries. If your arteries are at room temperature, you have MUCH bigger problems than hardening arteries. Second, I found out that the studies were intentionally skewed which concluded that saturated fats are bad for you. Those who funded those studies were pushing seed oils, which truly are bad for you. And information is accumulating that fat is your friend, especially saturated fats, like in meats. Eating fat does not cause fat in your body. But it does provide good energy. I used to avoid fatty meats, but no longer.
By the way, I am now back down to my very skinny high school weight, back when I was a bean pole. My mom and brother both think I'm too skinny. But they're both overweight. And I've never felt better. My fat has melted away and stayed away.

Still eating my share of simple carbs, though, but after reading your comments (& I'm pretty sure I saw the same video with the doctor recommending cutting out the simple carbs and late evening snacks, and doing keto, Etc.), I'm working on further improving my diet in order to get over the prostate issues, Etc...Any other suggestions?

It really depends how you look bald. For one, it doesn't work great if you're not of the slightly more masculine phenotype. You also need to have a nicely shaped head to get away with it well. I always thought I'd be devastated if I lost mine when I was younger. My grandfather, father and full brother all were bald. My full brother (2 years older) lost his almost complete horseshoe by about 22! I have a much older half brother (16 years my senior) that still hasn't lost his and is about to turn 60. I was hoping that I was going to follow in his footsteps, but not long after 30 I started seeing the outline. By the time it was thin enough to say screw it, that it will look better shaved, I really quit caring. The look works for me, and I honestly love most of the other parts about not having hair (e.g., feels better, stays cooler, easy to wash and dry, no need to style). Unfortunately, I still have to shave it every other day of so to keep it looking good. I also go without facial hair. It kind of depends on what you're working with, though. I'm 6'4", 220lbs German and Italian, and decently muscular even though I'm extremely limited on exercise/gym time. Before you get worried, though, assess what you've got and also know that the older you get the less you're really going to give a f♡(

These days, it's much more acceptable to shave your head, and hopefully rock a great chromedome.
But imagine turning 19 years old in 1971, and you are already beginning to noticeably lose your hair, within a popular culture where having a full head of hair is absolutely EVERYTHING. It very definitely changes the course of your entire life, as it begins to erode your self-confidence and your self-image.
I mean, at the risk of sounding selfish & shallow, it's like, in one fell swoop, your dating options and choice of women are drastically diminished, in that, you can no longer marry someone who is on the same level of physical attractiveness as you(unless you're rich), so you are essentially forced to do all of your shopping for dates in the discount stores, if you catch my drift.
That's not to say that you can't discover true love with a relatively unattractive person, but it does cause one to wonder what that alternate reality would have been like, had you never lost any of your hair.

There's another doctor that says new studies show that "Insulin" sensitivity is the key component to BPH ! Supposedly every time we eat carbs or sugar our pancreas tries to deal with it with insulin and the prostate is enlarged from too much insulin in our systems.. even sugar substitutes trigger an insulin response.. Type 2 diabetes is a key factor as well because of the lack of insulin sensitivity the pancreas over produces it and that causes numerous problems in the body !

Some say cortisol from stress causes a conversion of testosterone to estrogen, causing growth of prostate. Is that true?
Also I got a recipe from Dr Eric Berg to eat a smoothie of whole lemon including the peel (organic preferably) and a cup of frozen blueberries. The lemon has something that reduces aromatase which converts testosterone to estrogen, causing the prostate to swell. I've been doing this for a couple months and 1. It is really good tasting. 2. I seems to be opening up the flow, I add mango and other frozen fruits also, some ground flaxseed too which lowers PSA. You can add other things too if you want.

She is completely overstating the frequency of finasteride side effects and she is ridiculously overstating the effectiveness of saw palmetto which has no real data behind it to show that it works. Presenting saw palmetto as a "natural alternative" to finasteride as if these two things can even compare in efficacy is stupid and she knows it, finasteride has an unbelievable amount of studies behind it showing its safety and efficacy, saw palmetto doesn't even come close.

Saw palmetto didn't help with m hair loss, neither did finasteride or minoxidil or castor oil or essential oils or even an expensive laser light therapy helmet. But Ill tell you what I eventually found that did work for me. There's a kind of vine bark in the Philippines called gugo wood that they put into shampoos. It took a bit more than six months, but quite suddenly, I found that I now have a full head of hair after suffering from baldness for some twenty years. Best thing about it is that they sell it in the Philippines for about $7 for a liter, that lasts for about 8 months using it every day.

I was on saw palmetto for about 9 months for MPB. It turned off my sex drive as a switch had been turned off. I lowered the dose and persisted but it made no difference. I still had a lot of hair on my pillow in the morning. Eventually I gave up and it took a few weeks for my sex drive to return to normal. I then started 1mg propecia. Within about 2 months I had virtually no loss of hair on my pillow and my sex drive remained normal.

Thank you for covering this topic. I have been using what I thought it was a reasonable version of Saw Palmetto for a number of years. I take it because I have allergy and decongestant meds that I have to take every day, which tend to cause my prostate to enlargen. I have not noticed any improvement in my Issue with a male pattern baldness as I have started this process in my early 20s and nearly 65 and I definitely have less hair now that I did when I was in my 20s. I am nowhere close to being bald but I see hair falling out every day when I shower and I’m wondering if you can recommend a brand of Saw Palmetto that is more effective?
