  • This video is a fairly short part of Game 1 of the 1965 National Basketball Association Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Celtics at Boston Garden, won by the Celtics, 142-110.
Taken from a kinescope, it is the middle of the second quarter into the third quarter of the ABC Sports broadcast, with Chris Schenkel on play by play and Bob Cousy and Wilt Chamberlain on analysis. It was re-aired on NBA TV's Hardwood Classics.
The Celtics, coming off their epic seven-game defeat of Chamberlain and the Sixers in the conference finals on John Havlicek's famous steal, cruise in this one. Los Angeles, which would win only one game in the series as the Celtics continued their dynastic run, had Jerry West but was without scorer supreme Elgin Baylor, who injured his knee earlier in the playoffs.
A hidden gem in this footage: Cousy interviewing Wilt about the Havlicek play and whether the big man would play in the NBA next season.

Of all the players on the court, there's no doubt when you hear Heinsohn barking. It's also interesting to hear Bob Cousy so early in his broadcast career.
