We love you beautiful princess. Thank you so much for choosing our country, and may you live with us here in SA FOREVER because we love you as you are one of us. Plz enjoy mzansi(South Africa) hospitality (ubuntu). We love you.
Great insights from brother Hosana, hence I encourage visitors to connect with native South Africans as guides, because other "guides", mainly Uber drivers from foreign countries, give distorted history about our country.
Listening to his young man is so calming and nurturing. It's just beautiful! Amazingly, he has to return and buy land that may have been stolen from his family and tribe.
Mmmm, wow so nice to hear you my Sister and see you so free and fitting to us Bantu people of Southern Africa, ❤from Ntshawini KwaDukukuza KZN province in Sunny South Africa 2024, hawu madoda
Your driver is really dope!!! Your trip was blessed!! Do me a favor, when you come to the Eastern Cape.......let me know. I have a few places you can visit in the Home of the Heroes
I noticed that you wanted to know some history about the relationship between Zulus and the indigenous Khoi and San, but the driver didnt seem to understand the question fully. Firstly let me state that the first people in SA are the so called “San” who were also known as the Bushmen and Sonqua and like any other group they are made of many tribes clans etc. The next group to arrive in SA are the “Khoi” who were also known as The Hottentots. The Khoi were actually a San tribe “that left their hunter gathering ways when they obtained livestock, and would become Khoe or “Khoi”. Before I get into the Nguni, I want to explain the Xhosa because they’re actually quite interesting. The Xhosa people are the next group to arrive in SA and they were not part of the Nguni collective like they are today. To put it simply, Xhosa people arrived as Bantu people and became influenced by Khoi and San culture, being that those groups were dominant in South Africa in those times. These Bantu people would make their way to the Eastern Cape and push further down to parts of the Western Cape and would intermixed with the Khoi and San and so would their culture and language. For example the word “//Kosa” (Xhosa) in Old Xhosa translated to “Fierce Warrior” which translates to the same thing in /Xam (A San tribe) and the Xhosa people often praise “Qamatha” who is a Khoi God. So there are still a lot of aspects of Old Xhosa still found in modern Xhosa. You fast forward and a new Bantu group makes their way to South Africa. By the time this group would settle in modern day Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Eastern Cape they were known as Nguni. Nguni was a group of people who had a mixture of Tsonga (South African tribe from Limpopo) and Tshua and //Xegwi (2 San tribes). The Nguni collective would give birth to tribes such as Zulu, Ndebele, Swati etc. Bear in mind that at this point the Xhosa are not yet part of the Nguni. But with the arrival of the Nguni in KZN and Eastern Cape province, there would be a cultural exchange between the 2 groups the Xhosa would become part of the Nguni collective. Also, before Shaka’s rise, the Zulu were just a small clan that managed to conquer and assimilate other Nguni and Khoisan tribes and grow to the big Zulu tribe we know today. The same goes for the Xhosa nation, they are made up of multiple Nguni and Khoi tribes that assimilated into the Xhosa collective. Lastly I t’s also important to note that majority of the South African groups have influence of indigenous Khoi and San. There are Khoisan clans and tribes found within Xhosa, Tswana, Zulu and Sotho tribes. Even cultural practices etc. I’m sure in the time you’ve spent there you’ve seen Zulu, Xhosa, Tswana people whose features resemble those of the Khoi and San people. That’s what your driver meant when he stated that we look different. Black South Africans tend to have a Khoi/Bantu blend. East Africans have a Cushitic/Bantu/Arab mix, West Africans have a Bantu/Nilotic etc. I hope I don’t confuse you too much. 😄
@ I would direct you to a blog post on the Camissapeople web blog called “The making of the Cape Colony”. It contains a lot of history that I’ve touched on and there’s even more South African history on the website that will help you understand South Africa’s complexities better.
The ancient tribe , you might find them in the Northern Province, North West up to Namibia. They also occupy the Northern part of Botswana. Their close relatives are in Tanzania. They had no concept of borders as they were hunters , so you also find them in Congo . Some of the ancient tribes intermingled with the Bantu people, and formed Basotho nation , original Batswana and Xhosa tribe , original Nguni. Some were robed into what is known as "coloured people".
The guide was well informed. Great South African hospitality. But we did not get to see the places you visited. Some of us are watching from other countries on the continent.....
Yes he was. It pretty much rain that whole day. So I mainly kept the camera on myself and the guide. But there is footage of the township and the beach☺️
That tectonic plate is going to affect South Africa, right in the middle of Gauteng Province. KZN will move away as part of a new continent. That's millons of years ahead though.
Yeah that’s the thing every guide/driver had something to talk about that they were passionate about. So my whole trip was filled with different conversations.
“The Barberton Makhonjwa Mountains is the only place on earth where the development of the early earth and evolution of life itself can be studied. This is truly the place where life began.” Please look it up. The tales are just that, tales. Don’t take tales as facts.
