It's hard to let go of stuff, especially if you're cheap like me. My new thing is for every new clothing item I buy, I have to get rid of an old item.

Ain't nothing wrong with being frugal! Probably the best way to be at the moment

A creator here on YT, Cristina Mychas, used the term "fantasy self" to describe who she used to shop for - lol - and same! Clothes/shoes/accessories for a life I just do not live. For example, I NEVER need formal wear, but I was always on the hunt for pieces anyway, somehow. And I work from home, so business wear is irrelevant, too. I'm in recovery from all that now, but definitely feel you on all this! I started looking at the pieces I always reached for, and they were a lesson in what I really LIKED, and what I really used. Good luck!

I'm resisting the body change because I've spent a LOT of money on clothes that I wanted to wear for the rest of my life - pieces that I picked specifically, purchased thoughtfully, have had tailored, and curated for myself. I'm also not yet sure if my personal body change is due to my less active lifestyle and simple weight gain, or actual age and hormone fluctuation. If my weight doesn't balance out, I'll be absolutely devastated if I have to get rid of my wardrobe.
My other fear of aging is the fact that women tend to become more invisible as they get older (so they say). I don't have an attention seeking personality, but I will admit that I imagine my ego and vanity will be bruised as I get older and fewer people notice me.

Same! Life is so unfair to women. It’s true you can literally feel you are becoming invisible. Sending hugs

Embrace the fun side of change and root yourself in gratitude. You get to donate to someone who can use something and I am pretty sure they will be grateful for. If you sell it think of the money you make and how you can reinvest it in yourself. Every few years your body is going to change and this is your opportunity to reinvest in yourself.

Thank you for sharing this wardrobe moment with us. In January I usually do a quick emotional check of my wardrobe. If I wasn’t excited to wear it in the past year, GOODBYE!
Now if I could be that good with stuff I LOVE that needs replacing…

I feel you on that last part. That was the hardest part of this, but once I let go, there was joy in searching for replacements that I will love just as much

I really enjoyed this video. You know this resonates with me. It is nice that you did this now instead of waiting until January. Your closet looks a lot lighter. 🙌🏽🙌🏽

This is exactly where I am too. I've purged a lot from my closet after realizing so much either didn't fit, or it's just no longer my style. I'm leaning in to what I like and what makes me feel beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

I did that big purge about a year ago and I feel so much better. I don't buy just to buy anymore. If I need to replace something, I do. If not I don't. Every item in my closet I can wear and I enjoy. But I did make a huge change in my wardrobe. I discovered that I don't know how to pick colors so I decided to stop trying. Everything or 98% of my closet is white/cream/off white. That includes coats and winter items. I got rid of shoes that were too high and now I'm free. I wear lower sleek heels and it works for me. I get compliments all the time for my style. I didn't do it for that, but I'll take it. ❤

Girl my whole flat/apartment needs to be purged. Lol! I have clothes that are falling apart but here in the UK, they sent them to textile recycling so it works out ok. I have an eclectic style and I do have a lot of oversized pieces so when I got "fat", they still fit. I also learnt to sew so...I can alter things if I need to. Yeah I'd still wear those jeans but like to a street market where no one cares about looking polished. The things that are not showing signs of wear I use for more upmarket/upscale events downtown city centre with suit wear office workers. I do the same with with my shoes..I have trashed shoes that I wear around my neighbourhood and then I have smart polished ankle boots that I wear downtown or to an interview. Nah I loved belts. I wear them until the wheels fall off too. Lol! I don't have new clothes coming...I'm in my repair and replacement era age 40s.... I used to be into fashion but I really don't like a lot of the fast fashion and I don't overpriced things. So I have built a lot of classic pieces that never go out of style. Maybe that's how it is as you get older..unless i have somewhere super fancy and super special to go to ..I don't get new clothes unless it's a replacement. I'm not a celebrity..I can be seen in the same thing multiple times...50 times if I love it that much. Lol! I have a few sentimental pieces but the rest have to go. I'm resistant to change but I know why. I have autistic traits and I grew up in a household where from day to day I had zero control over anything and things could change with no warning. But I've explored change a bit in my therapies and I've looked at things that make accepting change and giving up control and having faith a bit easier.
