  • How to Become Truly Advanced in the Art of KALI (KC Podcast). As I'm reflecting on my Kali 25th anniversary as a practitioner of this martial art, I'm pondering the difference between those who become absolutely great practitioners. What is the key defining thing I've observed over my 2.5 decades of practice? Deep Intention.

You are a great ambassador for the Art, and well deserving of all your students, both online and off. You've certainly helped my training, which at one point was becoming so repetitive and stagnant. Your weapon Art has helped transition my learning. Thank you sir.

Such reflection appreciated Paul. I recall 2019 as the year of discovery for me of the intriguing Kali M.A. form.
I got 'pretty good' by the year 2024. Maybe kind of plateaued, but Kali formed the major part of daily training, and I was in contact with a Wing Tsun teacher trainer whose skills literally stun.
But February I went in for surgery, shoulder reconstruction, to repair an old fall injury, and lo and behold the old plate removal complication resulted in an unexpected additional fracture.
Only in the past month have I at last accessed the correct healing compound. Before this, suffice to say, in my unused dojo, I would sit, grieving the loss of all training time while I sought to heal. It's all about to step up soon, I feel.
The stream of videos from Kali centre, I'm eager to dip my toes in again. I'll update my subscription too, because I want to support the Kali Center.

I started practicing Kali 4 years ago. Since then not only have i delved deep into the world of armed combat, I've really dug into the science of both the weapons of choice and the system itself. I started off focused only the Stick, The Ginunting and the Kukri. Now i use a Japanese Tanto in 2 particular lengths and a modified Wakizashi made to very particular spec's so that it can be used efficiently for Kali. I've had many setbacks since my start. But when i see how far I've come in the fundamentals and the innovation I've developed, i get the drive and motivation to never quit my training. One day i will attend one of your camps and i will show you how i apply a Samurai Sword to Kali🥋

Hello Paul, just like to say I appreciate your enthusiasm and motivation. I've been training for some years now, and yes sometimes I get unmotivated to keep training. But I'll click on your video and feel inspired again. Thanks for sharing your advice, and experience, keep Blasting 👍

I started with Kali in my martial arts journey and then went on to study other arts. I wouldn't say I am a good martial artist, but I would always show up and do the work. I enjoy it a lot. After 24 years, I recently went back to Kali when I found a good local school. I remember a lot of it, but I am starting over in the beginner classes to make sure I have the foundational techniques down. I am having so much fun!

I started 2 years ago. Not easy being running a company plus my kids. I did a 12000 repetitions in 9 months mainly on pkt and I do not count since. My goal is manipulate most of weapons but mainly Gunting , knifes, sticks, long staff, karambit, sundukan 5:29 and I’d love using the axe but time at my age is not helping.
Why Kali , because until the end of my life i’ll still be learning and biggest deception is not have discovered before the systems.
I needed something to find myself where I can’t be bored being an « H.I.P » with instinctive kinesis.
And you are mainly one’s of the personality whom help me to understand it better. Still at your school learning the curriculum. And people it is a real deal to learn and understanding faster the concepts.
Kali is a destroyer of bodies but also helping memory, to stay coordinated, keeping the mobility of our bones , helping shoulders after big injury. It is also helping you to go back home when death might coming for you. Kali is a destroyer of body to keep order in the disorder of this world.

*In short, "to Become Truly Advanced" at anything, you simply make it a way of life, you don't make it a chore, it's just something you do routinely.*
*Still, a certain skill level may be all that's needed for a particular lifestyle, where being all knowing, or the best, does not apply, so one may drop out at that point.*
*I was the most attentive student of Kenpo Karate, where I became very good only half way to "Black Belt", that was enough for me to walk confidently through life.*
*As the world got crazier, I've added blades and firearms to my defensive quiver, both of which I'm proficient with, but "best" is not my goal.*
*Defense to "a regular guy" like me, adds up to being better than average, so that dealing with violent offenders (not big thinkers) is all I, or an average guy needs.*
*What I do strive at is (in order) being a great Grandpa, Father, Husband, Friend, Humanitarian, and Naturalist.*
*I subscribed to your channel because you demonstrate great handling of "stick weapons", (and certain blades) your instruction is very comprehensive, and that's all I need.*
*I would like to take this time to Thank You for all you do, and let you know it's much appreciated.* 👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I'm coming up on 4 years with Kali and about 3 1/2 with KC. I haven't been to a seminar but I did train in person with Tom and Chis last year and currently monthly with Tony. I kind of go through fits and starts with Kali. I get insanely frustrated with myself and it almost becomes aversive to train. I haven't figured out a way through that yet. Recently though I got a new horse and he's taking up a lot of my time. But while working with him I'm learning the same attributes as Kali. Range, timing, awareness of myself, awareness of the environment, awareness of him and how that all comes together. It's the same System. And I'm starting to have a deeper appreciation for both. So I started training again more consistently and it's finally starting to click. I sure as Hell can't get frustrated working with the horse so I'm starting to use the same grace and patience I give him for myself. I'm forever grateful for KC. I'm not enrolled anymore. I'm fine being "good enough" and improving at my own pace under Tony's guidance but I'm finally starting to see the System play out in wildly different activities. Pretty cool stuff.

I started martial arts when I was 15, Kyokushin Karate. From 23-29 had a gap cause of work and life. at 30 I migrated to Canada, took up Muay Thai, I was a bit over weight and out of breath. Couple of years later the dojo closed and my Khru, who had a Philippino background, relocated to Kingston, but he cranked my level so that I can train beginners level Muay Thai, conditioned my bones and taught me one basic drill in kali and we practiced some sombrada. But most importantly he became like a family to my spending Christmases and holidays with his family. specially that I migrated alone to Canada. And till today we meet to train whenever the time permits.
Case in point, he tells me that when I first walked in to the dojo, soft, long haired , Mediterranean over weight kid, he said to himself I wonder how long this one would last? I lasted, gained a teacher and a friend for life! And met some of my best friends there. I moved then to do HEMA, for few years, and now I'm taking up new discipline soon. never left training since then, I'm 45 now.
I can relate to this video, and it hits so deep.
finally sorry for writing a newspaper article, I would like to say that it is hard to learn a martial art from the internet, but the way you break out the moves makes it easy for us to reach a high level in this art (Kali). Thanks for every video my friend. every single one is a good solid training session. This channel ranks among the top ones, salute to you and to your brothers in arms. All the best and success in whatever you do.

Well said! You get out of things, what you put in. A little effort, even regularly, still equals a little return. Sadly, in a world of instant gratification most will not truly succeed in a expert/master status. This includes work skills as well. I am a master carpenter because I have dedicated my time to truly howning my skills. Martial Arts is no different! Even with 20 years of mixed training, for specific reasons, I have yet to achieve a master status. Simply because I can't dedicate the same amount of time to it as my other skills. Keep up the great work and videos. They do have an impact on people's lives!

That was awesome! I would love to see more content like this where it's just you in front of the camera sharing knowledge drawn from your time in the arts. This was very good! I would also be highly interested in a training program for Kali instructors. That sounds awesome! Soooo, happy I found Kali Center almost 3 years ago now. When I did, I had no clue or expectation that I would get to train with you and the crew in person, or that I would have the opportunity to train with one of your top students, at his house. Kali Center is something special and I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys have up your sleeves!

I know very little Kali . Its more then knife fighting but it is in the system . I gave up of martail arts . Lets be honest most people learn what is relative to them . But what is their mindset . Does the school ever think of this . Screw the art teach me the art of pain . I believe that every student should leave the gym owning something that they can use in a real combative situation . Self offensive is not a martail art . Its breaking down someone else's body . I probably would had learned a whole art but lets be real its money making . They push BJJ as a self defense but its limited and mostly use as a sport more than protection . Yeah it has some value but nothing I would want to put my faith in . Sport fine real crap nah . All I do is my poison hand training with heavy bag work some lifting getting ready to go into rough core training ( stomach ) . Learning a art is cool . But most people count the cost on things . Some people just get it , some can learn and some will mever get it . If you cant over come from getting hit you will never get good with a true fighting art . Then there are people who cant hurt people freely . There nothing wrong with that . Thats a gift if you ask me .

What is up with the negative comments? An attempt to gaslight? Or did several of you not watch beyond the first 5 minutes? You want to judge him then go train with him and then make an assessment. Maybe you will open his eyes to the error of his ways, but more likely it will be the reverse.
