Idk if anyone else knows this, but Patti Page was actually harmonising with herself, and this was one of the first and most famous overdubs of her time. An overdub is when the artist sings additional parts of the song besides the melody and they are put in later. So she sang the alto and soprano line, different recordings, and they were put on top of each other! I just love that, and her alto voice was CRAZY!!!!!!

It's what they call overdubbing, and is now a common practice. This song is probably one of the earliest recordings to use it.

I was born July 1950. My parents told me that song was the only thing that stopped me from crying and calmed down when i was a baby. Once while driving cross country in the car, they had to stop at a restaurant with a jukebox to play that song while i was having a fit. I miss you Mom and Dad.

This song evokes a whole era in American history that has nearly passed off the scene. It was the great post WWII era and singers like Patti Paige had lived through the Depression and the devastation of war. So, their music had a grace and power often missing today. They had the humility to allow their talent to speak for itself. We may never see another era like it. So, glad we have it recorded for us.

@@th...........7793The rapture is a lie born of a need for comfort and backed up by a misinterpretation of the verse in Thessalonians 4:17. He will come to take everyone to his kingdom who have accepted him as the son of god and their savior, and all will go at once. Zechariah 14:1-4 is proof of this.

The music in your generation actually have so much meaning (coming from a person who's 24), a generation where songs were about true love, enduring pain in break ups, meaningful songs. Now we got songs where they literally have no meaning and everyone loves it. Sometimes it's hard for songs that has meaning to make it to mainstream media now-a-days.

When I listen to this song sang by Patty Page I become very emotional for many reasons. A great deal of memories become refreshed. I was 8 years old growing up in torn Japan by WW II still trying to rebuild cities. I was sent away from my parents to my grandparents in Tokyo due to my mother's illness with TB. This song was played every where in Tokyo and one of my uncles was crazy about it. I fell in love with the song and to this day I think it is one of the most beautiful songs we hear. Patty Page's unique style of singing and skillfully use her voice to make it so special. The concert she had after 80 years old her voice was just as beautiful, she was truly an amazing artist.

This song was released while my mother was pregnant with my eldest brother. She adapted the song with some nonsense lyrics to use as a lullaby (so she wouldn't have to think of real words at 2:00 am...) It became her Go-to lullaby for four sons, three grandsons, two granddaughters, and one great granddaughter. Not to mention the uncountable kittens, puppies, that need cuddling and lullabying... etc, etc etc,,,
She would sing, "Nee nee niegh neigh, nipsy no no, nipsy neigh neigh nipsy noodle..." ect...
I was actually fourteen before it donned on me that _Nee Nee Niegh Neigh_ was _The Tennessee Waltz._

I was born two years after this recording came out. I learned it because my father used to sing around the house, and this is one of the songs he used to sing. We finally got a 45 rpm recording of it and I used to listen to it along with another Patti Page hit, "Allegheny Moon". For a long time, this record was the second best-selling single record of all time, after Bing Crosby's recording of "White Christmas". Patti Page could sing and had one of those voices that was always a pleasure to listen to. Thanks to recordings, it still is.

This was, inappropriately, the wedding song of my Southern (Texas and Kentucky) parents. It was a harbinger of things to come. Despite all of that, and its marks on me, I still love it. As I do Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash, and country music overall. Because it is my heritage. Patti was an original and great. So I celebrate her here. A great effort, and poignant in the pain it brings.

This song is my earliest memory of a song. I remember my mother playing it on a little record player in my bedroom. Born in 1947, it was probably when I was 3 years old when the song first came out and, as I now know, was extremely popular. I have no memory of the lyrics, just the mournful sound of the music.

But listening to this song in the background while reading these comments makes me cry because I can feel the memories and the love behind them.
