@@Sandro_martino I wish this became a reality. It could have actually had a use over a beanbag shotgun, or a taser which doesn’t guarantee to always work. You also won’t have to change weapons and if you do need to switch to lethal it doesn’t that for you.

I remember seeing this exact program when it aired on tv. The question is, after 6 years why are we still not using them? It's literally an aluminum ball and piece of molded plastic, would cost all of a couple bucks to produce, if that. Police should have access to boxes full of them.

imagine pulling the trigger, only to put a 3-inch exit wound into the suspect instead of a beanbag round? because that's what happened with the spas-12. keep in mind that this all goes down in seconds while high on adrenaline as well. the _exact_ same thing will happen if this ever got fielded.
if you need to shoot a guy, you will need to visibly check whether or not you've got the right round loaded- or in this case, make sure the right muzzle attachment has been loaded as well. Anyone can do that and should be expected to do so when they're in a safe, controlled environment. nobody should be expected to be able do that when their lives could be-- and is very well likely to be-- dependent on literal seconds and are doped with dangerous amounts of adrenaline, otherwise very deadly accidents happen- something nobody wants.

If I (not a pro baseball player), hit someone as hard as I could at the head, the chest above the heart, the sternum, or throat, etc, etc, that person is going to die just as sure as if it were a bullet

My guess is it doesn't have the stopping power. A tazer will stop an attacker immediately and is probably cheaper.

the concept makes sense to a point. there's almost no delay for lethal force. since the objective is to have one last way to deploy less-lethal force in a time-sensitive situation, i'd say it works for that. my gripe with it is there are already much better solutions from companies such as FN Herstal that would work better in almost every situation. this is over-engineering for no reason.
If they have a less lethal bullet queued up first in the magazine then there is no delay either. Though officer might forget that because of lack of the orange covering on the end of the barrel and neither will work right if he panics and shoots more than once.

we are talking about a bullet, you can´t make the ball out of something different then metal, it would break or something else
even normal airbags in cars don´t save you completly, the explosion used to charge an airbage hurt your ears but the reason we use airbags with small explosion to blow up is simple changing a bigger damage (like the hit from a other car) with a smaller damage
same here in the device to absorbe some of the damage of the bullet, so its not that lethal plus the size of the ball also reduces possible penetration power
so its at least something

It's to make a normal weapon have a chance to be LTL and give the attacker one chance to stop before they get shot.
Doubt it'll be much use. Pistol rounds have a hard time stopping people quickly, let alone when they have "1/5th" their energy.

The report merely claims that the bullet is 5 times slower. However, i suspect that this is the result of the bullet gaining an attachment and becoming 5 times heavier, and still carrying almost all of its original energy. The result should be that almost the same energy is transferred onto the target, but over a larger area. I find it impossible to decide at a glance whether it will be more or less efficient at stopping the perpetrator.
John Kindley Don't see why the energy loss from detaching the ball from the connector wouldn't be two orders of magnitude lower than the energy of the bullet propelled by explosion. But i'll perhaps try to make an estimate later.

Until your gun blows up from either a live shell with an obstruction in the barrel or too much overpressure and the glob of garbage on the front is stuck to the picatinny rail or front sight. Also if you wanted to get a better line on less than lethal you should try a walther ppq .43 caliber co2 pistol. It uses rubber balls, ceramic, paint, chalk, and pepper balls. It's on Amazon

Russell Brown They're not different in the sense of measuring how many rounds are held. I understand that the weapon shown would use a magazine instead of a clip though. I used the word simply to represent the metric of how many rounds any hypothetical weapon can carry.
