    I’ve watched a million how to shaping vids and this is one of the best series out there. Awesome how you show the small details from how to hold a planer to what cuts to start with. Love it

    Nice! Planer sure is a tool that takes a while to get used to. Shaped 2 with it but definitely gets a better product.

    Because Jim said to do it.
    That's a very good reason!

    Thanks for the video, really helpful! What planer model are you using (sorry if you already mention it previously).

      I believe the hitachi p20.
      It was modified by US blanks back when they where making them.

    what kind of surform did you use to takeout the uneven planer passes? mine usually tears so i opt for 40 grit

      I use a pretty fine one. I don’t like to use the larger toothed ones at all.

    What planner are u using?

    Try not get the string from your shorts caught in the planer. I got it caught in the polisher 5000 rpm Milwaukee once and it wasn’t fun. No more shorts and punched gut.

    Is it practical to try this without a planner?

    • @zack_flores
      @zack_flores  9 месяцев назад

      Although it would take a long time it is possible. I know people who have done it, but I personally haven’t attempted it.
      If you don’t have access to a planer and still want to shape I would recommend a stringer-less EPS blank and a good sheer form.

      I just finished shaping one without a planner, and if your blank is close enough, it doesn't take that long, yet must pay attention to taking foam evenly, remember people have been building surfboards for a long time before fancy tools😊

    Cutting the outline why not use a jigsaw?
