Depends on location. If the tower is in some remote place, then microwave radio links are usually used. If the tower is somewhere where optical fibers are available, then this is a likely connection. However such stations are usually also relays (so they connect other sites as well), so there still will surely be some radio link used to communicate with a remote station.

But from what I heard depending on where you live some have said they get anywhere from $3,500 a month to 10,000 a month.. Depends on the area and how many people connect to your tower.. The best bet would be building it by a road way to increase the chances of different people connecting to your tower.. They can tell if the same people been connecting to it... Me personally I want to build one in a rural area cause where I'm from has a lot of people who stay there and building a cell tower would be a great opportunity to provide services to people who can't get access to cable internet or can't afford Satellite internet..

Is there any wire under the ground that goes up the towers? Or do towers communicate with other towers wirelessly in the air?
There is wires
there are wires but mostly they communicate with eachother
They have specific towers that are designed to send transmissions to other towers. Some also use wires.
The Towers are connected be 1-wire under the ground (optical fibre ) or 2-wirelessl (microwave )

Its not a device it's a piece of code which calculate it. But the hardware is present in both ur device and broadcaster aswell.
