Great reaction and you're spot on about the lyrics. As someone mentioned this was written for the Leonardo DiCaprio/Claire Danes version of Romeo and Juliet, so it is basically about two lovers running away from the world and its hopelessness by tragically taking part in a suicide pact. I'm sure you'll get lots of recommendations for other big Radiohead songs like Fake Plastic Trees, High & Dry, Paranoid Android (or anything else from the OK Computer album, really), but I'd love to see you react to their song True Love Waits as not many people have reacted to that one.

Thank you. I have loads of suggestions, which is great. I can't remember which other one I've already recorded but True Love Waits is also on my list. I will do it when I next record :D

Seconded. Although definitely the studio version from A Moon Shaped Pool rather than the live version. It captures the emotion so much better. Also I'm going to throw in a request for Motion Picture Soundtrack as well.

Girl, you are doing all their sad ones haha. Go to the In Rainbows album! House of cards, jigsaw falling into place, nude, weird fishes

    • @danberado
      @danberado 2 года назад +4

Lol, Jigsaw, Nude and Weird Fishes are some of Radiohead's saddest songs. In Rainbows has a strange duality to it where it sounds upbeat but most of the lyrics are as disconsolate as ever.

I don't know which is which, I just have a load of song titles that were suggested ha I have all the ones you suggested on my list already, however they don't sound upbeat exactly lol

The sadness of a lot of Radiohead songs can be quite cathartic to listen to, when you're in the right mood. :)

Awwww. I almost feel bad for you following up How To Disappear with this one. Two of their most emotional heart wrenching songs from their catalog!!!! Honestly they’re probably my two favorites from the band.
Try “There There” next. You deserve a pick me up track. Thanks for the great content.✌️

Thank you. It's so weird I feel like I'm hearing something new with Radiohead. I can't believe I didn't know how amazing they are, the only song I knew before doing this was creep which of course is fantastic. I have added your suggestion to my ever growing list :D

@@LainieReacts they’re one of the most emotionally driven bands ever, no doubt. It’s about feeling something, more than making hits. Highly recommend (not as a reaction, just for yourself) making a pot of coffee or cup of tea, maybe a joint/cigarette/or beer/wine, and listening to the Kid A album front to back.
Despite being largely electronic, for me, it was a revolutionary record, using electronics, minimalism, and gorgeous orchestrations to achieve imo - one of the most emotional listening experiences ever.
They released a stream of it months before it came out, and after a band practice me and my Radiohead superfan buddy sat down with headphones and started the album.
We went the whole way through without a break. It ended, we took of our headphones, and he said “again?” And I said “you’re joking right? Yes. Again.”
Thanks for the reply, best of luck with all the recommendations!!!!!!!🙏✌️
Ps - a lot of my friends who were also fans, at the time thought it was like a joke by the band. It’s hard to convey what a crazy left turn that record was in the context of the times. Not to mention a record like that, with no promo or single, debuting at #1 on the billboard charts in America and the UK.
Hope you’re having a good day.

True. Not all Radiohead songs are like this. Many of them are beautiful and dreamy. Some even up-tempo and rockish.

@@RustinChole I hated Kid A and then I gave them one more chance with Amnesiac and I was done for like 10 years or so and I caught In Rainbows from the basement and was blown away I now love both those records and it cemented Radiohead as my favorite band.

    • @RustinChole
      @RustinChole 2 года назад +1

@@jameshannagan4256 honestly, Kid A requires context. For people new to it, I highly recommend first listening to The Bends, then Talk Show Host, then OKC, then watch “meeting people is easy,” and finally the SNL performance of Idioteque. For me that doc and SNL were like, crucial Kid A primers. But even without those I could hear the weird getting weirder, and the dark getting darker, starting with Talk Show Host and Exit Music from the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack pre OKC. So I was hoping they were gonna hit the weird, dark, experimental, highly emotional aspects harder than ever, and they didn’t disappoint.
But I can totally understand, if you didn’t grow up having seen their evolution from Pablo, to The Bends, to OKC, (thom seemed SO miserable on that tour) Kid A would seem pretty strange. Or maybe you just didn’t like that direction, which is equally understandable. Hell a lot of people forget there were a lot of fans who thought OKC was, in the words of the guy who practically forced me to go to a tiny all ages club to see them on The Bends tour, “hippie music.” I even remember this Irish girl I had an impossible crush on who thought The Bends was too “schlocky,” compared to Pablo Honey.
Still can’t believe that record (Kid A) debuted at #1 on the billboard charts in America.

Radiohead songs are sad in the most beautiful way.. its almost always a cathartic experience.. and this way radiohead has been.. atleast to me.. a veritable anti-depressant.

Agreed In Rainbows among other Radiohead albums broke the dam on my shock after my wife passed suddenly at 48 and helped me finally grieve and was actually uplifting and as you said cathartic. Even though that was in 2015 I still listen to them all the time not exclusively, but I keep coming back to them they have amazing replay value almost like a prog band.

I love your Radiohead reactions.. Radiohead have been my favorite band since The Bends came out in 1995. Put all their songs in a hat and pick one, you can't go wrong... But here are some Radiohead songs on the even more emotional side:
    Fake Plastic Trees
    All I Need
    No Surprises
    Nude
    Codex
    Reckoner
    Pyramid Song
    Motion Picture Soundtrack
    Videotape
    Present Tense
    Nice Dream
Deck's Dark... Just to name a few lol

I would recommend virtually anything from Radiohead they always manage to convey the emotions they are trying to project masterfully be it fear, dread, paranoia, sadness or blissfulness they do this musically alone the lyrics and great vocals are just a plus like another instrument. Some songs to listen to Pyramid Song, Street Spirit, Fake Plastic Trees, Reckoner, Nude, All I Need, A Wolf At The Door, Motion Picture Soundtrack and if you really want to ratchet up the fear and paranoia try Climbing Up The Walls and as a bonus for those of us stuck in middle-class hell No Surprises.

You nailed it on the interpretation!
These are some heavy songs, for sure. Which, admittedly, Radiohead has an abundance of. Thom is, alternately, sharply observational and introspective and the delivery is poignant.
Perhaps go for a rock song next, to mix it up? Maybe My Iron Lung from The Bends? It takes the piss out of their radio hit, Creep. It's more sassy and sarcastic.

I now cry to their music not because I'm sad, I did that the first couple times, now I cry because of the beauty of their talent and that I'm lucky enough to be alive during their time and that I was lucky enough to not grow up listening to cheesy pop music.
