Wow!! I have worked in forge shops since 1977, and I have only met 2 blacksmiths that could make quality tongs, most shop just buy them. You are a master, when I get my 25 lb little giant running I'm gonna try and make some tongs, thanks for posting a great video!
I don't even blacksmith and I think that jig is really spot on for a power hammer, I don't really agree with the novelty of having a power hammer, but if you're forging tongs with one, that jig is the best thing for it.
thats awsome.... i love the power of those hammers, moves the steel like its butter :) and yet you can de so delicate with em... great jig my man, all that work done with one heat..... Brilliant, top work!!!
This is one of the slickest and useful jigs I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing it, I just subbed to your channel now and I’ll be looking forward to seeing your genius!
I like your jig and hope to build one. What size rivet would you use at the pivot? You said in a reply (about 6 years ago)... "I have another jig that uses the current jig as a starting point to make bolt tongs. I will post it in the near future." Did you ever post a video of that jig?
I like the idea and have made a bottom dye/jig pretty close to what you have for my press,I'll upload a video of how it functions with my setup within the next couple weeks Thank you for sharing
You'll need to experiment with the length as it depends upon the how long you want your reins. Maybe start with 10" ? This jig could not be easier for making power hammer tongs. I always make several at the same time for future use.
There are no plans. Each of the eight built had changes. The head is the most critical part and most expensive to machine. The remainder is from Ron Kinyon's plans.I built them just to see if I could do it.

Looks like it would also assist in manual construction of tongs. Overall nice for select types of tongs.
looks like you done that once or twice before?? it's great to see a master at work. keep the video's comin'
Me again... lol I just found your video on the bolt jaw jig. Pretty much answered my questions. Nicely done.
The effect was... stunning, good job!
This video was my inspiration, ten years ago.
Great jig! I love this!
Too bad the only power hammer I have is my right arm ha ha!
Great jg...you ought to sell plans, or a kit, or complete units....

How did that go.. Mark of a good design, is when there is nothing left to remove.

fine jig u made, looks great and obviously works just like that.

Two questions: would this work under a hydraulic press and what size ( or how deep) is the first offset? Very clever jig
awesome jig!!! I would like to make one but...... I need a bigger hammer. any ideas for 50 lb 'r ??
Все хорошо , Но.... зачем такие сложности ? Вы , не ищете легких путей ?

great vid, john!
That’s awesome! Love it
Sure. If the jig fits between the dies, go for it.
Would this jig work under a tire hammer?
