      I got the SSA347 (same watch with power reserve and date dial) for $350!!! It is absolutely amazing for the price and you can get others at this price on Ebay for that price here in 2020. My watch didn't lose 1 sec in 3 days so far. Kid you not.

    You are right about the crown. But as you say, the dial is stunning. And also the movement works fine. The one I got loses about 5 seconds in 24 hours.

  • @neilpiper9889
    @neilpiper9889 6 лет назад +3

    Orient Bambino Blue V4
    was doing this some time ago. Seiko, the sister company probably looked at the popularity of the Bambino and emulated the look. And added an exhibition caseback.
    Nice watches

    I have the SRPB41J1 version of this watch.
    I absolutely love it.
    It's a beautiful watch with an exquisite dial.
    I love the window display of the movement.
    Yes it's not a rolex but for twenty times less you're getting something half as good.
    One BIG LET DOWN is no sapphire crystal!
    Just a 'hardlex' piece of crap that scratches easily.
    What a shock, Seiko what were you thinking???
    I ended up buying a custom made sapphire crystal to replace just because I love this watch so much.

      @@1Channel2Watch I'm delighted with the new glass, it really elevates the whole watch. Those tiny scratches on the hardlex drove me crazy. No AR coating but I had to check that before replying so I've certainly not been bothered by reflection.

    I agree with you that the dial makes up for any shortcomings with the rest of the watch. I don’t think many people really are suggesting that this is a luxury watch (like an Omega, Rolex or even Tudor). Also I don’t agree about the build quality of the case - mine feels fairly solid to me. Yes, your Hamilton might feel more solid but it’s a field watch not a dress watch so it’s bound to feel more robust. Also, when it comes to aesthetics the Cocktail time simply p*sses on the Hamilton from a very, VERY great height. There is no comparison.
    The lack of Sapphire is a bit of a disappointment but not the end of the world for me. Also the 4R35 movement is solid enough and my guess is that it will last longer between services than a Swiss higher beat ETA. Time and time again these 4R35 (and equivalent NH35) movements are proving to be both extremely reliable and also surprisingly accurate which is why so many microbrands use them.
    I love the large onion crown on the watch. Mine does have a tiny gap but it doesn’t bother me as it functions perfectly well.

    I own this watch and as a beginner watch user, I think the overall quality is stunning at this price point. However, if you really have to compare this watch on par with luxury watches, Seiko Presage won't score a point due to the low cost of the craftsmanship and materials.

    I think your complaints about the movement are unfounded, sure it's not as nice to look at at watches in a higher price bracket, and the watch could have done without the exhibition case back and still been good, but the point about the movement is it's very reliable and well made, they can last a decade or more without service, sure it's undecorated but I like that it makes no apology for what it is.
    The only criticism is that the actual cocktail time JDM watches this is based on used a slightly better movement, but it's not too great a deal apart from a shorter power reserve so for a reduced cost you're still getting a good deal in terms of the movement quality.

    Yea you can nitpick all you want but at the end of the day watches are meant to be worn to accessorise a man's outfit and tell the time. A smart gentleman would spend his money wisely on a few value for money watches of different variety. I own a seiko skx013 which looks very nice on a metal bracelet and I wear it most of the time as it is hardy and waterproof, I have a vintage 1969 omega geneve 9k solid gold (got a good deal on ebay for $400) which I wear with a brown strap on casual days to match my belt/shoes and a black strap for more formal occasions, a skeleton watch which was a gift that I wear on special days, and one of these, which I will wear both on a night out and on a sunny day. What else can a man want?

    The fact of the matter is, for the price point, you're hard pressed to find another dress watch that's as elegant as the cocktail time/presage range with the in house automatic movements. don't compare a circa £500 dress watch to a hamilton pilot/aviation watch...it's not the same thing. compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges. the crown is a little too big imo but after having purchased the limited edition "starlight" model, i can honestly say, it doesn't really bother me that much anymore. if anything, it's a little more convenient when it comes to winding the power reserve. All in all, it's a great timepiece and if anyone is looking for their first/entry level dress watch, you can't go wrong with the cocktail time/presage range.

  • @theredspoon1763
    @theredspoon1763 6 лет назад +33

    Sorry but I don't understand this Hamilton comparison. The Seiko is a dress watch whereas the Hamilton is a pilot one. Also the Seiko movement is compared to the Hamilton of a much higher level of quality as it's an in-house-movement that is made by hand in Japan. Hamilton uses simple ETA movements that are cheap and commonly used by almost every manufacturer out there. Additionally Hamiltons are very likely to be produced almost entirely in China. ;)

    • @1Channel2Watch
      @1Channel2Watch  6 лет назад +4

      Hi Leo, the Hamilton comparison was just to emphasise on the build quality and feel. The Hamilton just feels better built. I am not trying to compare them in any other way. When closely inspected the Swiss movement just looks and operates better. However, if you do the comparison with the first Seiko Cocktail, which has a higher grade movement, I think it will be a different story... Hey, thanks for you input, highly appreciated!

    • @hypasheep
      @hypasheep 6 лет назад +4

      ETA movements are not "simple", they are still higher grade than any Seiko generic movement, hence most luxury Swiss brands use ETA. Not all watches can use ETA because they are expensive and the ETA company only supplies movements to some brands. Don't compare simple Seiko to Swiss quality

    • @stevec5465
      @stevec5465 6 лет назад

      EtA only supplies to Swiss companies because their arses were getting kicked. So why supply the enemy?
      Also GS not qualified for Chronometer status only because not made in Europe. Scared much??

    • @theredspoon1763
      @theredspoon1763 6 лет назад +6

      Sorry but ETA is the absolute evidence for Swiss manufacturers being too lazy for having their own ideas. Even the IWC Portofino of my dad is supplied with an ETA movement. They are not bad, but they are easily made. A real in-house-movement is a sign for good watchmaking knowledge and customer related service.
      Seiko even uses its own alloy for their mainsprings, got a very good shock absorber an their magic lever is a masterpiece of engineering.
      That's why Seiko watches are so popular all over the world. They are workhorses that even in 100 years will work as fin as on their first day. I am owning my Cocktail Time for 2 weeks now and it's simply amazing. Very accurate an precise.
      As soon as you're hitting the GS models you are rapidly outrunning every Swiss manufacturer. Their built quality is second to none. They are stunningly well made and the regulation of every single movement takes a month! The best chronometer is the one, that doesn't even carry a COSC Certificate.
      Seiko Presage and GS is watchmaking made in Japan at its finest!

    You point out the watches strengths and it's weak points and you said that it is a great little watch for the money.
    It is true that it is not a luxury watch. and that is OK.
    There is a huge difference between a luxury piece and a base level Presage.
    I think that this is the point that you are making. Example (Omega or Breitling.)
    It is always better to experience the watch in person; especially if you are dropping a lot of money.
