The Afterneath Reverb is a modern day classic. I've literally just spent the afternoon looking for Afterneath v3 demos and couldn't find any decent ones. Lo and behold, here's Stefan with a superb demo of this intriguing pedal. Great work Stefan, you've pushed it to the top of my "to buy" list!

I'm super excited about this one. One of my all-time favorite ambient reverbs just levelled up and became an instrument all in its own right. Afterneath V3 is crazy versatile and inspiring, especially when used together with a CV sequencer or expression pedal. What's the difference between the v2 and this? The v2 is a bit more expensive where I live
Great video! One question - I'm using the same Korg SQ-1 as you have in this video, for expression control with the Afterneath V3. I'm noticing a couple issues and was curious if you had thoughts/advice:
1) The knob above each step does not offer the same full range of tones that are available with the Drag knob or Moog expression pedal - for example, with the middle mode setting (minor scale) the Drag knob/expression pedal give me around 14 tones across the scale -- but the SQ-1 step knobs only offers 6 tones. Is this to be expected, or is there an issue with the sequencer?
2) The sequencer will not work the with final Octave mode at all. Again, the drag knob and Moog expression pedal work fine with the Octaves setting, but the SQ-1 doesn't offer any secondary tones.
I'm not super-experienced with sequencers, so I can't tell if this is user error or a problem with the SQ-1 or what. I come to you for help because you were obviously able to make some amazing sounds with the SQ-1 hooked up to the Afterneath.
I love your videos and this is hands down my favorite one. I love how you used the empress zoia and the afterneath as a stomp switch sequencer 10:33. Is there any way can share this patch on Patchstorage? Or maybe even share the CV values in the steps please?

Stefan, your channel is my go-to source for pedal research. There are a few reasons why this is so.
First, you begin each demo with a clean guitar tone. If I click on a demo and the host is shredding away, that's an automatic pass.
Second, you impart just enough information when you talk. You never go on and on and on about the product you are showing.
Third, you let the pedal do the talking. Your text explaining the functions is perfect. As an old geezer, (66) this is perfect. I can pause and consider your helpful text on the subject.

I am so psyched for this! I can't wait to get my hands on one (at some point). I am especially excited since I discovered that I have room on my board to accommodate the expression pedal plug. At first, I thought that it wasn't going to be possible and I was going to miss out on that. But, it will happen. Awesome review as always.

I was just about considering selling my Afterneath pedal, as I strugle make it fit with my playing style.
But now, after watching this; I'll give another go...
This is the only demo where the person demoing it, actually is able to get something musical out of the expression control.
With every other demo, my reaction has always been: "Why would you want to do that?".
With this one my reaction is: "that's really cool!"

V3 has trails. Didn’t really touch on that in the demo. Don’t know if that’s important to you. But yeah, Afterneath is awesome no matter the version. Happy you liked the demo

Thanks for the demo but, I'm going with the TC Electronic Hall of Fame 2 because it's programmable and stereo in and out since I play in stereo with a Crate 150 Power Block which is a stereo amp head.

Hey there Stefan! First of all, thanks for this stunning demo! I've been watching your videos for a while now. I was thinking about getting a EQD Afterneath V3 and thought about asking you about your experience with the pedal. Specifically I wonder, how the Afterneath works with the OBNE Expression Ramper (not the Slider), since the Drag-Knob seems to move in steps. Do you have any experience on that? Furthermore I wonder how the Afterneath reacts to a complicated Delay in front (like a Source Audio Nemesis Delay with e.g. Pitch-Shifted Delays). If I understood it correctly, the Afterneath creates most of its Reverb-Sounds via very small/short delay lines, so it would be interesting to know if it works with complicated Delays. If you have an experience with that I'm interested! Otherwise have a great weekend! Greetings, Morris :)

Those two pedals are very different. What kind of sounds are you seeking to create?
I wasn't shure if this pedal was for me, as I'm new to this ambient/lofi/psychedelic guitar stuff, but got one anyway and so glad I did. This beast can do from subtle hall/plate like reverbs to almost anything. Combined with the OBNE dark star you can get huge ambient drone tones

I am also considering the Dark Star. But the EQD Dispatch Master may work its way onto my board as well.

The dispatch master is amazing- it’s an always on pedal for me. There’s not a bad sounding setting on it.

All depends on what kind of ambience you're going for. If you want dark, brooding textural pads then go for Dark Star. If you want vast cascading ethereal reverb, then Afterneath it is

The real answers.... 1) It depends! (if you can only afford one) 2) Both (if you can afford both of them). They are extremely different, so it all depends on what sounds you want to acheive.

Afterneath V3 and Zoia together are amazing. I love using Zoia as a creative CV controller with the Afterneath V3, as shown multiple times throughout this demo. You're in for bucket loads of fun 😊 And it means a lot to me that you enjoyed the demo!
do you find you can get good reverb sounds from the Zoia? I'm looking for a reverb but also love all the crazy stuff the Zoia can do, basically limitless sounds!

Once again I thoroughly enjoyed that.... so I love the shimmery ambient nature of that pedal, if I have the dispatch master which also has reverb how do I use these two pedals together without it getting overwhelming on the reverb side of things.... I assume your answer is don’t use the reverb part of the dispatch master if you have the afterneath as I would be kinda redundant, right ? Thanks
This just sounds too good to be true. How well does it sound in the front of the amp though. I’m just curious because I don’t have an affects loop on my board
The pedal is running straight into the amp all of the time in this demo (except for the synth example. There I'm running straight into my interface). So since it seems like you like the sounds you're hearing here, then you'll definitely like the sounds you'll hear from it as you're running it straight into your own amp :)

Fantastic video! Question, at 5:04 when you move the expression slider to the mid point the guitar sounds like it has a volume fade on it. Is this from the afterneath pedal alone, or did you add volume swells in your playing at this point? either way, great sound!

This pedal sounds awsome, I have a korg sq-1 and was wondering what settings you used on it in the earlier portion of the video?
Wait. So, do I need a KORG SQ-1 for that sound to be achieved?
You don't need exactly the Korg SQ-1. You just need a CV sequencer, if you wanna do the sequenced pitch jump sounds. If you want one in pedal format, then EHX makes one called the 8 Step. But just google CV sequencer, and you should find a selection. The Kirg SQ-1 just happens to be a nice, simple and affordable option, which is why I have it.
@@thepedalzone Will check that Korg out. I like the sound you did in the first 2 minutes of the video. It's like there's a delay but much precise. I can't explain it as I am relatively a newbie when it comes to guitar pedals. Thank you, good sir! And yes, I am familiar with a lot of EHX pedals. But will try to check the Korg first.

I'm thinking what to buy first. This one or Avalanche run. Maybe you can give your opinion?
Depends on what you want and need. Organic glacial soundscapes with multiple delay modes, or do you want your instrument to shoot futuristic synthetic sonic spells? Avalanche Run is undoubtably more versatile, but it won't give you the sound of the Afterneath, so it all depends on what pedal is more appealing to the music you create and want to create right now. But as always, when in doubt, get both 😉
The Old Blood Noise Endeavors - Expression Slider is compatible ? I'd look at picking both up they sound great.

If you only had an EQD Dispatch Master and wanted an upgrade/addition to your ambient trails, which reverb/delay/both pedal would you get first? I’m thinking about the slo/fathom, cirrus or afterneath, but maybe you have some other idea?
Cirrus is incredible bang for the buck, so that one will definitely give you the most versatility out of the ones mentioned. Afterneath will give you amazing icy cascading and slightly granular ambient textures to mess around with. The perfect contrast to the warm organic ambience of the Dispatch Master. I don't have any experience with the Fathom or Slö, so can't give any insight there.
