I feel this kind of Iranian music/song is much more appreciated amongst those non-Iranians who are artists themselves and can really appreciate the complexity of the vocals and the performance in general. Ofcourse anyone can enjoy any song from anywhere; but my point is artists can see and hear certain things that the rest of us ordinary folks can't. Not sure if I'm making sense here; I hope I do!

actually as an Iranian myself, i should say that Iranians really love Homayoun. he's like a national treasure to all of us. everybody respects him and his talent even if his music is not their personal taste.

Abr Mibarad o Man Mishavam az yar Joda
    Abr(Cloud) Mibarad(is raining) o(and) Man(I) Mishavam(am getting) az(from) yar(my loved one) Joda(away)
Cloud is raining and I am getting away from my Love...
chon konam del be chonin rooz ze deldar joda?
    chon(How) konam(am I able do) del(Heart) be(in) chonin(such a) rooz(day) ze(from) deldar(my beloved one) joda(away)?
How am I able to get my heart away from my love in such a [beautiful] day?
Abr o Baran o Man o Yar, se ta del be veda'a
    Abr(the cloud) o(and) Baran(the Rain) o(and) Man(i) o(and) Yar(loveed one), seta(three) del(heart) be(in) veda'a(separation)
The cloud, I, and the loved one, all three of us are getting seperated
Man Joda Gerye Konan, Abr Joda Yar, Joda
    Man(I) Joda(away) Gerye Konan(Crying), Abr(cloud) Joda(away) Yar(the loved one), Joda(away)
I am getting away crying, so is cloud and my Love...
Ey Mara dar sare har kooy be zolfat bandi
    Ey(O) Mara(To me) dar(in) sare(upon) har(every) mooy(strand of hair) be(to) zolfat(your hair) bandi(you bound)
O, to me you bound every strand of your hair
Che koni band ze bandam hame yekbar joda?
    Che(Why) koni(you do) band(bound) ze(from) bandam(my bounds) hame(all) yekbar(once) joda(free)
Why are you taking my bounds all away at once?
Dide az Bahre to khoon bar shode ey mardome chashm
    Dide(Eyes) az(from) Bahre to(for you) khoon bar(filled with blood) shode(has become) ey(o) mardome(people of) chashm(eye)
My eyes are filled with blood [from crying], oh the inhabitant of eye
Mardomi kon masho az, dide khoonbar joda
    Mardomi kon(be habitant) masho(don't be) az(from), dide(eye) khoonbar(crimson) joda(away)
Be generous and don't get away from my crimson eyes...
    ***
This isn't about the moment of separation, but to the memory of it. like the poet is remembering the scene of clouds, the cryful feeling between himself and even the crying of his love...
In denial to the happened fact, he is still in love deep in his heart. and doesn't want this to end... because he is bounded to every piece of her beauties...
In the last verses, he is telling that her love would be always inside his raining eyes.
    ***
Actually the word Iran is much more general and very older than "Persia". Iran refers to the people of Arya or Aryans, and it means the land of Aryans.
In Iranian mythology, the first kingdom of earth was made by Iranian king and a holy sovereign, Jamshid. Jamshid was son of Noah's brother and he lived for 700 years. This is about very old times, when people and beasts were living together, and in that period of time the reality was mixed with magic.
In those times, at a two weeks period, 14 tones were played across the country, each representing one day. It is said that some of the tones of Iranians are not earthy, but from higher realms.

    This gentleman who plays the
kamancheh(کمانچه) next to Hoomayoun is Mr. Sohrab Pournazeri, who was the composer of this song, and he points out this to the musicians.
    Westerners made violins from kamancheh.
They made a guitar from tar( تار) and piano from santour(سنتور) .
    You were great as always.

His expertise is into classical/traditional music and almost all of his lyrics on his musics are from poets whom lived in may be past few centuries . As a result, the translation of these poems are very difficult And they lose their meaning through the process of their translation; however, there are some version of them translated.
It's kind of literature in form of music.

Awesome Schnell! Sorry for the "copy and paste" but i just really want you to react to these other Mori performances!
So happy to see my favorite reactor react to my all time favorite singer once again! LOVE IT! I've been following you ever since your first reaction to Mori's "Moon River". I've noticed a few that you have not done yet that are some of my personal favorites:
Her AMAZING live performance at the 2017 Asia Song Festival on a MASSIVE stage. This is a MUST! It's INCREDIBLE!
Two "Broadway" songs she did while in quarantine recorded in her home that are incredible...."Defying Gravity" from the musical "Wicked" and "She Used to be Mine" from the musical "The Waitress".
A whole "other side" of Mori's talents are on full display in her performance of "Ain't Been Done" (Jessie J cover) shot during a photo shoot.
    They are all FANTASTIC!
    Love from Saskatchewan Schnell!

Kamancheh is the origin of the European Cello as Tar ( short for Chahartar, meaning four strings) is the father of Guitar. Kaman in Persian means Bow, and Cheh is the suffix denoting small. Tar in Persian means ' String ' . Tar travelled with the Arabs from Persia to Europe after the fall of Sassanid Persia to the Arabs and North Africans. It later changed shape and evolved from four strings to six in the 1700s. I really admire and appreciate the genuine interest you show in classical Persian music. It is evident in your expressions and I hope you enjoy the music. Thank you. PS: since you seem to like his music then have a listen to this, Sarnevesht ( Fate ) ruclips.net/video/6P4P7qr6nkM/видео.html

The cloud is pouring and I am separating from my beloved
How can I lose my heart on such a day
Cloud, rain, me and my beloved are standing to say goodbye
I cry alone, cloud alone, beloved alone
My heart is tied to every hair of you
Why do you suddenly untie all the knots?
My eyes have become so bloody because of your love, which is dearer to me than my eyes
Be kind to me and do not separate from these bloodshot eyes

Hi. That instrument is called 'Kamanche' pronounced as // and in the way Master Homayoon sings, he uses a beautiful technique called 'Tahrir' in which his voice goes up and down and you hear as if his voice goes back and forth; like yodel in your music. As a matter of fact, he sings a note and a note higher than that and again comes back to that note an repeats several certain times; just as 'trill technique' in playing music instruments.🌺

Kamancheh is pronounced as/kæmɑntʃe/. Tahrir is pronounced as/tæhrir/, and abr mibarad as /æbr miːbɑːræd/.

Here is the translation of lyric:
The cloud is raining and i'm separating from my lover
how can i take my heart back from the beloved in such a day?
the cloud, the rain, me and my lover are standing to farewell
i'm crying on my own, the cloud cries on its own, my lover cries on her own
oh the one whom i have a link to each string of her hair
why are you detaching my connections all at once*

nice reaction as always, please react to the female version of this style. Homaira sings the song "vasam az eshgh begoo" performing Tahrir at it's ultimate level.

Its undoubtedly one of the most beautiful songs. BTW, he is playing "Kamancheh", an Iranian instrument. If you are interested in that, look at Sir Kayhan Kalhor's videos. He is literally the master of this instrument.
