Kamancheh is the origin of the European Cello as Tar ( short for Chahartar, meaning four strings) is the father of Guitar. Kaman in Persian means Bow, and Cheh is the suffix denoting small. Tar in Persian means ' String ' . Tar travelled with the Arabs from Persia to Europe after the fall of Sassanid Persia to the Arabs and North Africans. It later changed shape and evolved from four strings to six in the 1700s. I really admire and appreciate the genuine interest you show in classical Persian music. It is evident in your expressions and I hope you enjoy the music. Thank you.
