    I should think Typhon, greatest and most monstrous of all giants, who made even the Olympians quail, would be the prime candidate for #1 most terrifying creature. Pity he was introduced as the Chimaera's progenitor instead. (And Echidna, as "mother of monsters", surely deserved a slot of her very own.) But I must also say, I am pleased that you ventured outside the Greco-Roman tales for your top-ten roundup.
    I have heard it said that the Chimaera probably was first described as simply a gigantic she-goat with a lion's head and a great serpentine tail, and the that the extra heads were a late addition to make the beast even more wildly fearsome. (I personally like to picture it with the lion-head having a goat's horns and beard, and a snake's slit-pupiled eyes and forked tongue.) 😱 😁

    Interesting, cause the Natives of Meso-America call their housemates/food sources, Cucui, not sure of spelling, pronounced "coo-cooie". Which we from Norte America call Guniea-pigs. They let them run free inside the house and eat them when the taste fancies them or if hunting is poor.

    hiya, Katrina! wasn't able to watch this yesterday, so here i am. i think they're all cool stories but, that's all they are. great ways to help make unruly people, not just kids, behave in a manner that is more accepted by the culture in which they live. doesn't work with most grown-ups and a lot of children, nowdays. i think my fave is wendigo. kinda zombie-ish, ya know.
    see ya next time, Kat! please miss, some more?

    We have a legend near a local lake of a giant rabbit as tall as the trees. He has teeth like a wolf, hands like a raccoon, and claws like a bear. And goes by the name Thumper. People say if are driving down the part of the lake he lives on. Get out of your vehicle and yell 3 times thumper can't catch me. He will chase you down. But it's just urban legend.

    I feel bad about the one that turned into an ugly woman after marrying. Czarina Anna forced a man to marry the ugliest woman she could find. He fell in love with the woman. When his wife died people mourned and when Anna died people partied.

    • @goldenager59
      @goldenager59 2 года назад +1

      I am given to understand that this all occurred in 1740, and that the man was Prince Michael Alexievich Golitsyn, who had incurred the Czarina's hostility after marrying an Italian woman of Roman Catholic persuasion (who died not long afterward), without Anna's leave. The woman that was selected as his new helpmeet was a serving-woman of Kalmuck heritage, and the Czarina caused an elaborately constructed palace erected for their honeymoon...made entirely of ice. 🥶

      @@goldenager59 I just stated what I remembered so I have no doubt that you would be correct. I don't think that the story that I read had information on his wife, just that the Czarina thought that she was the ugliest woman in Russia. I always thought it was sad, romantic and beautiful. Thank you for the added information.

      Poor Huldra. Hopefully one day she'll wed a man of heroically stout heart. But she puts one in mind of the verse by Alexander Pope:
      Vice is a monster of such frightful mien
      As to be hated needs but to be seen.
      Yet, seen too oft, familiar with her face,
      We first endure, then pity, then embrace.
