  • The 13th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM) Hosted by Kenny Rogers, Donna Fargo and Barbara Mandrell. Recorded and broadcasted in Nashville Tennessee by ABC. Dolly Parton wins the award for Entertainer of the Year. Kenny Rogers wins the award for Male Artist of the Year. Crystal Gayle wins the award for Female Artist of the Year. The Song of the Year is awarded to songwriters Roger Bowling and Hal Bynum for the hit song "Lucille" performed by Kenny Rogers.
    Kenny Rogers wins the Album of the Year Award for his album "Kenny Rogers." The Band of the Year Award (Non Touring) is awarded to Palomino Riders. The Band of the Year Award is presented to Asleep At the Wheel and Sons of the Pioneers bands. Award recipients include: Archie Francis, George Manz, Debby Boone, Eddie Rabbitt, The Statler Brothers, Larry Booth, Roy Clark, Charlie McKoy, Buddy Emmons, Billy Parker and Jim Halsey.
    Broadcasted April 12th, 1978 on ABC and recorded onto a 1977 Quasar VX format videotape that i purchased via eBay. I did not add watermarks, edit or add my own personal audio commentary in order to preserve the original presentation. The quality is very low due to the 45 year old videotape along with the single head system of the 1977 Quasar VR-1000 (Great Time Machine) VCR. This is the most complete presentation that i have found on RUclips. If you own a better copy please share it for all the world to enjoy. Till then...Enjoy!

I'm a big fan of Eddie's and it's very sad that there's not more footage or photos of him out there. He really didn't have a big ego and act all self- important ( according to all who knew him). Blessings!!!❤

      I might never know who exactly who recorded this and many other Country Music awards, Elvis, Richard Nixon, John Wayne and NFR National Finals of Rodeo television broadcasts. Whomever did knew that they were special and they are the most viewed videos on my RUclips channel.
      I respect all music including but not limited to Country music. My favorite music is Rock which is a cousin of Country that stemmed from the same Rhythm and Blues music. Change happens regarding everything including music weather one likes it or not. Change keeps us excited for the future. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't honor and appreciate the past.
      In this particular broadcast I sense an ongoing change in Country music especially regarding the female performances. There seems to be a strong Soul influence and the overall vocals have a slower tempo. Perhaps this was a new variety of Country music that was unfolding.
      What I currently listen to is Rock music. Regarding this I can say that the word Rock encompasses an ultra wide range of music with many subgenres. Metal for instance is part of Rock yet it has an incredible amount of subgenres with new ones unveiling all the time.
      I love modern day Metal music yet I still honor and appreciate the classics of Rock (LED Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly, Rainbow, Dio, Pink Floyd....etc.) If you are a fan of Country music then I suspect that a broadcast like this one is very special to you.

      I would love to learn more about your opinion. I am currently in love with Metal music which is incredibly popular worldwide with no visible end to new subgenres. I know that Metal stems from Rock, Rock And Roll and the blues. In a way Rock and Country are distant cousins. I do not follow Country music but my late Father did.
      I uploaded this and other 1970s Country music awards shows because I believe that one must show respect to the classics pertaining to any genre of music.
      I might be wrong but in my 42 year old mind I believe that Country music has been stuck in the early 2000s regarding experimentation, innovation and flexibility. In the early 2000s there was a rock band called Nickelback. Whenever I listen to modern day Country it sounds incredibly similar to Nickelback and that annoys me a bit. Singing about decadence, trucks and beer is nice but one can only listen to such lyrics for so long until it begins to feel cliche, outdated and repetitive.
      If modern day Country music was a person I would love to hold him/her from the shoulders, give a strong shake back and forth in the hopes of helping to "snap out of it" and try something new.

      @@user-se1zd1cg6c Thank you for sharing that. RUclips is a safe place regarding expression and opinions. If it wasn't for RUclips's comments feature I would consider other video sharing services.
      Periphery is a very technical Metal band. I appreciate the fact that they take time to stop singing and let the electric guitars and the drum setup do the talking. When a lead singer sings at a level that inches away from crying that means that he or she is giving 100%. There is so much variety in the Metal music world and I love that very much. I remember when I first learned about Christian Metal bands including "August Burns Red" and I have to say that they rock hard. Their song "The Seventh Trumpet" is so powerful because it deals with something that will happen someday.

    • @renegonzalez6755
      @renegonzalez6755  5 месяцев назад

      I knew it was something special so I did my best to digitize myself and share it on RUclips. Very few professional vintage videotape digitization services work with the 1977 Quasar VX format because it was not as common or popular as the greatly superior Beta, U-Matic and VHS formats.
      I sold the tape about 6 months ago for $10 which is half of what I paid for it on eBay because I needed the money. The contents of that tape continues to receive views on RUclips. I seriously doubt that a 45 year old videotape would survive after 50,000 plays. No way. Perhaps 130 plays at most considering that the formulation is ferric oxide similar to what is used on type 1 audio cassettes and 8-track audio cartridges.

    Apparently they had no idea who was truly talented...and still don't today. Crystal Gale and Kenny Rogers winning over Loretta & Dolly and Waylon & Conway?? Nice show though...I love the 70s clothing and that camera work 👍

    • @renegonzalez6755
      @renegonzalez6755  5 месяцев назад +1

      I completely agree. I suspect that album sale numbers and radio plays were a big factor determining the winners. I was not familiar with Crystal Gale until I digitized this recording. She reminds me of a young Taylor Swift. Taylor's music has gradually shifted away from Country and towards Pop.
      Loretta seems to really "pour her heart out" when she sings. Regarding artists like Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire they are both very respected artists with wonderful charm.

      @@renegonzalez6755 I'm sure whoever made the industry the most money at that time had alot to do with it. Most country artists today don't sound like real country at all but thank goodness we have the music of past artists who have stood the test of time. Sorry, I do not have the 1979 awards. The way that I acquired this 1978 recording was via eBay in the form of a very old and rare videotape format called VX. I no longer buy vintage recordings because I can no longer afford to continue such a hobby.
      For now I am comfortable uploading my personal VHS and TiVo DVR television recordings of the Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and WB Warner Brothers networks from 1999 to 2016 which I don't consider as vintage. At least not yet.
