    I bought my husband a soda machine so he doesn’t have to buy soda and also because we can control of the type of water is used (we have reverse osmosis for our water). I saw a video of woman showing how super easy it is to grow ginger from ginger… might be worth it if you use alot.

    "Some people grate it, I'm lazy, I don't want to do that." 😂😂 Relatable. I love ginger ale and cranberry juice mixed together. The taste is unbelievable! Would be nice to make it myself but I haven't had the confidence to try it yet. I should soon. I really like your channel, btw, and I like your personality.

    I only like Vernor's ginger ale, the others have citrus in them. For a Vernor's flavor, use a little brown sugar. You can carbonate with yeast, but the yeast will eat all the sugar and make it dry/sour. And here's the trick to fix that, "Splenda". Yeast makes Alcohol, so you keep your sugar low, just enough to carbonate. The splenda is what sweetens it. So it's diet ginger ale. If you add 1.5 - 2 cups of sugar to a gallon, well that's making ginger beer. Pop only takes 1/2 cup of sugar to a gallon and a teaspoon of yeast, let proof 20 min. then put in bottles. Here's the splenda trick, before adding sugar or yeast put some splenda in to see how much you need to give it the sweetness you like, then add the sugar and yeast. These bottles have to be burped the first couple of days or they will explode. A cooler makes a nice place to keep them just in case they make a mess. I'm not giving all the instructions, just basic info.
    Flip top bottles are good for making this, but plastic Pepsi bottles also work great. You can use others like Coke, but they can warp from the pressure. With Pepsi you have 3 colors of caps, Blue for Pepsi, Brown for Dr Pepper and Green for Mt. Dew, plus the Dew is a Green bottle. So you can color code different flavors, not just ginger ale. Watkins makes a good Root beer flavoring, Vanilla extract for cream soda, green tea with chamomile for an apple flavor, don't use juice, it's for making wine. Making homemade pop is easy and cheap. The main draw back is the dead yeast that settles on the bottom, the same stuff is in bread, you just don't see it. 16oz bottles work fine, but I use 1.5 litters, the 2 litters are too big for me, both big sizes will be cloudy on the second pour. The 16oz bottles is the way to go for a clear glass. The other drawback is that you can't pasteurize the pop or beer in the plastic, only the flip top bottles can be put in 180 degree water to pasteurize. Always rinse out the yeast from an empty bottle, that stuff is like cement when it drys, it wont rinse out.
    I use herbs for a healthy carbonated diet drink that I make in plastic bottles.

    The stars MUST be aligned. I’m finding all the stuff I’ve been looking for in your channel. My husband drinks only ginger ale. He only likes Seagram. I want to see if THIS will work. Those small can packs are EXPENSIVE even in Walmart. Soda is not a necessity so if I can make it for him, I’m for it.😁 Oh man what a mess. That fine powder will linger…. but it happens. I’d be more upset that I’d have to repurchase something that was new. Tfs sweetie. Have a good day.🤗

    Nice to see how to do this again. First time was about 10 years ago and it was with making your own fizz using yeast, I think, and was a bit complicated. A few years ago I bought my own canister (ISI) brand where I buy the capsules to make my own carbonated water using tap water. I love using a bit of my own syrups in a glass and adding my carbonated water. It is more expensive than your cost for the club soda but I'm in a remote location where carbonated water/club soda costs many dollars for a bottle, so then my way is a more economical option for here.
    I would love for you to do some syrups that can be added to carbonated water in the future. Love your recipes, especially the chocolate syrup and lemonade.

    I've been dehydrating my own ginger for a couple years now. OMG! Not only does the house smell wonderful during that process, but it is Zippy! No more store-bought ginger powder. With that said, no matter what food processor I use after it is dry, not all is powder. There are tiny chunks. So, I sift it into powder and chunks. Chunks I put in tea, powder is for baking. I also have dehydrated orange peel and ground that up with some ginger, too. In winter, here in the frozen northland, a nice ginger/orange/honey tea is very warming. I will try this ginger ale. The version I tried before had 'natural' carbonation, and I never got it to work. Ginger ale is my favorite 'pop' and I put it in my homemade grape juice, shrubs, etc, to make 'fancy' drinks, LOL!

    I rarely do the boiled ginger because when I try to strain out the fine fibers from the ginger .. it blocks the holes of the strainer and takes Very long time to remove to make strainer usable again..
    This brings me to the issue of the fiber from ginger is it capable of blocking anything in our gut ???

    Whole ginger is quite expensive at times but grated bottled ginger seem to always be quite affordable. How much grated ginger would I need for this recipe? Also, if I only had dry ground ginger available, could you use the dried powder ginger as well, and if yes, how much do you think you will need?

    • @LittleHillHomesteadGa
      @LittleHillHomesteadGa  3 месяца назад +1

      I’ve never tried the bottled ginger in this before. The powdered wouldn’t work for this recipe since it won’t dissolve correctly. I really suggest fresh but if you try bottled let me know how it tastes.
