@wernerfuhry Personal reasons that were not elaborated on. The part from the post discussing it: "Hey everyone, as some of you might have noticed, on Monday the 2nd of December Red left the server, stepping down from the podcast for the foreseeable future due to personal reasons. It saddens us greatly to see him leave, but we equally hope this will give him the time to find himself again in his own time and his own space. Headcanons for the sizes of massive Imperial ships Gloriana-class Battleship (this part is obvious enough but some people don't really get it) - has a minimum length of 12km (Eternal Crusader) and as long as 28km (Invincible Reason) Bucephalus - 39km Imperator Somnium - 50km (I don't believe it was continent-sized, even if it's canon.) The Rock - 100km in height (that cool artwork makes me think that the Rock is just the fortress-monastery sitting atop some large continental crust from what was left of Caliban, with the crust facing forward like a dagger.) The Phalanx - 1,500 km in diameter (moon-sized) The Speranza (AdMech Ark Mechanicus) - 2,100 km in length (launching this ship destroyed the planet it was constructed upon lol)
For the Glorianas, they always seem more of a greater typing or title rather than a single definite class, due to the sheer diversity in tonnage they can have. It can be assumed that there was once a single STC template for a Gloriana-class, but it was then modified as the users saw fit and components of the design were used on other ships. For example, massive ships like the Invincible Reason, which was in many ways a Gundam-style "super prototype" given a bunch of archaeotech goodies by order of the Emperor. The size of the Invincible Reason is actually unclear, as the quote of 28 km is specifucally of the length of the htand processional hallway, which even if it spanned most of the ship's length, there would be some of the frontal prow that was ahead of it, as well as the giant ramming spike and some of the rear engine divider fin. Then there's the Vengeful Spirit, which as specifically called a "Scylla-pattern" and was massive, with Garro mentioning that its main side lances (which would be the length of the main hull between the armored prow and the engine area) was twice the size of the Endurance, which was Mortarion's Gloriana. The Vengeful Spirit would get EVEN BIGGER during the Heresy, as it would add a massive extended Chaos-style prow on top of ots existing one, as well as a giant armor cowling on top of yhe rear engines. For reference, compare this image of the Pre-Heresy VS: static.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/a/a0/The_Vengeful_Spirit.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20150209004009 and this one of it during the Siege of Terra: i.pinimg.com/736x/e1/fb/06/e1fb067e6ce12b77288c48ff672c7632.jpg The fact that it was called a Scylla PATTERN implied that it wasn't the only one of its kind, which would later be confirmed with the introduction of the Magna Tyranis, the second 16th Legion Gloriana that was used as Abaddon's flagship during the Heresy. The Eternal Crusader being a Gloriana while being as small as it is is actually due to it being retconned as one. It was originally emvisioned as just the flagship of the Black Templars, a battle barge but bigger (10km as opposed to the 5km that Imperial battleships were in the earlier editions), but then the Heresy books mentioned that the original Gloriana used by the Fists had the same name, which was most likely done as a nice little reference to something in 40K. They just forgot to change the specs of the ship in 40k to make that align better to modeen lore, so now there's apparently a Gloriana that's only 10 km long, which is barely bigger than stabdard battleships. As for the Imperator Somnium, my headcanon is that it definitely would have started out as relatively smaller in the supership size (50-ish km like you say) and would have kept on expanding and growing as the Imperium grew and more and more tech and resources were encountered and aquired by it, especially any form of spicy archaeotech or Warp-related systems that the Emperor would have wanted for himself. With the Rock, I actually tried to calculate an approximate size of the visual seen in the Warzone Fenris art, with it appearing from the warp with a swarm of battleships and battle barges. First thing I did was go to paint and select the entire thing as best as I could. Then, I rotated it until it was approximately parallel horizontally to the screen. I then measured how many pixels it was from stem to stern. The version of the image I used got me a result of 1029 pixels long. The next step was to scale it to the battleships around it. The art makes this easy, as literally all the ships around the Rock are either battle barges, or Retribution-class battleships. Modern sources of 40K state that these ships are approximately 8 km in length. With that in mind, the next step is to find the smallest ship on screen that could be seen in front of the Rock and not behind it. The best way to do this is to look close and see if the little specks that are the ships are mostly black when surrounded by the colorful Warp energies abd weather parterns of the Rock, meaning they are in front of it, or if they are tinted, which means they are behind it. The snallest ship I could definitely say was in front of the Rock using this metric was 4 pixels in length. So it's a simple equation of dividing 1029 pixels by 4, which gets 257.25, then multiplying that by 8 (how many km long a battleship or battle barge would be), which gets 2058. Therefore, according to the Warzone Fenris canon art, the Rock in M41 would be approximately 2058 kilometers long, if not longer.
@@aguspuig6615 Yes, it also shoots black holes, has chrono-weaponry that causes enemy vessels to time travel 1 nanosecond into the past, colliding with themselves and thus telefragging themselves, training rooms large enough to simulate titans attacking cities, enough factories to rival a forge world, a fully sentient AI to control it, terraforming machines that are 10km in length. And complete STC database. Its stated (I think) that this is either a warship from the DAOT or a golden age humanity colony ship. It must be noted that the necron and tau FTL has been radically retconned multiple times, the last time at the end of 9th. Necrons currently have ftl about as good as imperial warp travel. Tau currently perform short but full warp transitions.
