Elyse the others are funny together but Ray brought something special, he could sit in a room alone and still be entertaining
I think it's honestly where I got my philosophy of "I'm telling jokes because they'll make me laugh" from 😂
The whole conversation about Ray leaving starting at 1:59:00 is so wonderful. Geoff admitting to his hatred of losing a team member but after all this time has accepted that Ray was unhappy and deserved to leave to pursue his own path. And Ray's honesty about being so miserable at work and tanking videos out of misery or a fear of leaving... like all of that is so honest and pure.
I think we've all worked jobs that led us to becoming miserable employees who acted out in self-deprecating ways, and to hear these two talk so openly is really inspiring. Cheers to Ray for braving the unknown and coming out the other side a happier dude.

something that stuck out to me was that time ryan threw a moonball at matt (maybe at his face even? if anyone knows the source lmk) after matt told him not to. i remember seeing it in a compilation or something like a week before all this shit went down and it making me really... annoyed and unsettled with ryan. everyone picks on matt, but that felt like disrespect on a whole other level (at least IMO) hindsight is 20/20, hey?
I bet they all feel bad knowing it was right under their noses. I hope the rest of the AH crew can heal and not feel guilty. ❤️

Geoff genuinely loves Ray, it's great. I like the odd stream but Ray in AH was peak Achievement Hunter, there were so many videos that he carried, so many quick witted jokes... This was a joy to watch
I actually stopped watching shortly after Ray left, it just felt too different. They weren't bad or anything I just liked his sense of humour, and he was enjoyable to watch because be was actually good at gaming.
@@FetalBabyCorpse yeah. In recent years the teams just so big, and the content is so much, that it doesn't feel like that tight knit family, more like a huge company. And it lost touch with alot of people
I don't mind it much, i'll still watch if it's mostly the old cast playing games but people like Lindsey, Alfredo, Matt etc just don't do it for me. I don't dislike them as people they're just not entertaining...
ive been in and out of this community since 2010, i do think some of the best days where with Ray. but i will say i did enjoy watching the borderlands stream.

Ghost Ray is back!!!
The day Ray left this channel was a sad day. There was something magic about the chemistry between the original six members. Especially the lads. His sense of humour and little quick witted comments sort of bridged the gap between the others so perfectly. The channel never quite recovered in my opinion.
He was the Chandler. And every group needs its Chandler.

na i think they're smart and they appeal to a much broader younger audience anyways, i doubt theyre hurting, rooster teeth and full screen seem to be doing well
He plays a big part in that. But you also can't underestimate how much more content there is now, due to more people streaming or doing youtube. There is only so much time in the day and you get pulled in more and more directions. I never watched every video of a channel or content creator I liked to begin with. I watch the videos about games that interest me and skip the ones I don't care about. Doesn't matter how much I like who's making them.

I started watching achievement hunter in 2012. And to me, achievement hunter is Geoff, Jack, Ray, Michael, Gavin, and sometimes Ryan

Jeremy and Matt worked in the support room initially with Lindsay iirc. But yeah, it feels nostalgic to be reminded you're walking in the shoes of the people you wholeheartedly admired, especially when Ray's like a blast from the past for him. I'm pursuing 3D animation and fight choreography, and I think I'd cry myself to sleep for a week if I ever got to fill those colossal Monty shoes.

I haven't watched Rooster Teeth for around 4-5 years and this got recommended to me and I had to click. Ray was the man and a good amount of my formative years was spent watching AH and eventually Let's Play videos for hours on end. Always been rooting for you lads, glad to see the organization has had continued success.

It was so cool for them to recount Ray's place in the company before he left and how everyone felt about it, like Geoff apparently trying to bargain with him to stay and Ray's state of mind before deciding to quit. It was always something in the background that they never elaborated on in videos. I feel a little bad that he regrets how he acted in his later videos because he obviously wasn't happy, but knew that he was ruining them for the audience. So you can tell it was just a really hard situation for him at the time. I just appreciate hearing all of this from them.
Ray doesn't have to come back to this job, he's clearly moved on with his life and is happier. But being a more frequent *guest* on Off Topic and some videos would be nice, especially since he's got such a solid foundation in his streaming now. And I hope this podcast is the stepping stone toward that. We can already probably expect an Olympics 2020 Let's Play at some point so that'll be awesome.
The weird thing is, as an audience member I had no idea at the time. Ray was just good old ray in everything, it was a real shock to me when they announced he was leaving

Yeah it’s painful to see all of this go down when RT/FH/AH made up such a big part of my teenage years, and Ryan and Adam are all over so much of that content. Makes you wonder what other signs snuck below the radar.

If RT has kept it on the DL that would’ve been even worse. And honestly, (and I think a lot of people are saying this now) I feel like if anyone would have done something like this it would’ve been Ryan
Anita Zhu Yeah it’s just that you watch these guys for so long and you almost feel like you know them, and this happens and it feels like a betrayal. I can only imagine how the people that actually worked with them for so long are processing all of this, not to mention their families and of course the fans they took advantage of.
I guess that’s what makes Ryan’s cover story for why he was late coming home that he put on for a previous Off Topic (and was made into an RTAA) so unnerving in hindsight. He hid his illegal actions behind entertainment so much so that RT and the fans never even noticed, and it feels like betrayal of our trust in him now that the picture’s so clear.
Hope that RT makes it out okay from all of this. Not sure how they’ll ever put this behind them as a company, but I’ll be watching to see how they respond as time goes on. If there’s any evidence that comes about that they knew before all this came out then that may be it for them as a whole.

Me and my brother always fought and never got along with anything but the ONE thing that me and him were able to bond over was AH (especially early Minecraft let’s plays) and I honestly don’t think our relationship would be as strong as it is today without you guys being apart of our childhood. Watching this video and the chemistry of ray with the rest of the crew made me cry with all the nostalgia that came flooding in. Thank you guys for being sure a big part of my life.

I don't watch AH anymore as I did when Ray was apart of it and I would have the same reactions as he did. You can absolutely really tell he hasn't had a sit down and hung out with the guys like this presumably in a long time. It's not that he stopped caring, he loves everyone at RT and he wouldn't be on Off Topic if he didn't care. He just went off to do his own thing as AH did theirs

Maybe a Let's Watch or a Hitman Escalation every now and then. I loved the old days with Ray when the chemistry was strong with the Lads but I would never want him to lose the love for games he has.
I mean Ray even talked about it himself, he still likes AH but it just became an entirely different thing then what he signed up for.
When ray signed up it was all Achievement guides, game collectible maps (stuff that was right up his alley) and only 2 let's plays a week.
Atleast in terms of the content he was involved with, and maybe the odd one off episode of Fails or another RT show.
Compared to when he left and especially what AH does now you can easily see how he got burned out.
Ray is just so much funnier in a group environment. He's a great streamer but he's just so quick witted with the rest of ah. He slots in like he never even left.
2012-2015: watched every episode and every letsplay for 3 years straight.
2016-2019: watches 20 seconds of a video every now and again to see whose in it this time around before deciding wether or not to watch it.
Ik they can't really go back, and its not their fault in the end. RUclips, the audience, and the company all changed since then, as all things do, but man it still hurts to think about. At least there's 3 years of old days AH to reminisce in when I need it.
The sad thing is that there is now more time and videos without Ray then there is with him.

He was my favorite and I loved the guy but I think it was a good thing he left as he was not happy with doing that and he is now happy streaming. But the company has brought in new members that fit in perfectly such as Jeremy Matt and treco. Ray is missed but I’m not sure why that warrants you to stop watching ah entirely, just because ray is gone. They have started so many new series and have played new games, it’s so much more diversity. But there’s no point in me saying anything anyway, because like Geoff and many others have said before. @@Cm0N. No new member fits in, never mind perfectly. The only chemistry in the let's play room for the past 4 years has been between the original members. People watched them for the chemistry of the original 6, and it shows in the view counts.
Edmonton Rails the view counts are because the second that ray left, people never gave it a chance after that. They have many new shows, and achievement hunter is better than ever, but because one person left, the so called “fans” decided to as well.

This really feels like that first friend hangout after years of silence. still a fun time, but filled with awkward pauses and reminiscing.
I know I never knew them personally, but it was always sad to think that such good friends didn't get to see each other and have fun together anymore. They were obviously so close in videos; I don't want anyone to lose that kind of friendship.

In fact, Ray was introduced to RT by Michael in the first place, because they were such good friends. He got a job there because they were so close before they ever worked together.
I could go on about Michael talking about moving to work at RT and not doing anything outside of work for those first several months and how the Lads's circumstances when they joined left them isolated, but I think you just misinterpreted my previous statement.
