With the all orange outfit, I can imagine Xavier with a camera saying: “Be vewy vewy quiet, I’m hunting zambies.” *Holds up half brick.*
Also, I personally like to be a silly during games, so I’m not afraid to make myself look more silly. Plus the pictures would have an interesting story as to why a banana is trying to “eat”(tag) Captain Xavier.

My magnum opus is now a blue T-shirt, with my 5 springers printed on the front and "SPARTAN 412" on the back. With my springers running blues and whites and PINKs, it is just an amazing setup!

The mentality that you speak of is really a thing. I remember years ago my friend tried to get me into airsofting and I went 3 times.
I really enjoyed being in a forest, running about and the game. But it was the people that were the reason I never picked it up.
They all had better kit than the army and believed they were soldiers. I remember having to listen to this one guy for all 3 weeks going on about how he could be a Royal Marine if he wantwd and trying to tell all the newcomers how to do things/forcing them to get on the ground...etc to show them "how things are done"
Thats why I love Nerf, keep it fun.

    This is good advice honestly.
I recently hosted our group's first war since the plague and we went to subway for lunch. Well I didnt want to take off my gear just to get a sandwich (brown Motocross chest plate with a x3 talon magholder) and the employees looked at me with panic. I didnt realize why until after the war. I usually wear my Amtgard costume(medieval soft kit) out after an event because its fun, but you cant expect to dress as somebody who wields a gun and not expect to be treated as such.

My "larp" costume is a cowboy in a bright blue trench coat, a fake "robot arm", and a hat with a horn coming out of it. I am very obviously not an active gunman, i am very obviously a nerd in a costume. But i feel like a badass cowboy when im nerfing regardless, because in that moment im a cowboy pinging people left and right. You can create a character or outfit ultra badass and make it safe/appropriate. Thanks for spreading more word on this Cap, and thanks for the moment to talk about my costume lol

That's part of why I want to dress up as a giant neon green chainsaw with a zombie plushie on my chest. I want to look silly and harmless. When it comes down to a situation like a nerf event I narrow my choice down to whether a 5 year old child would be scared of me, if they would be scared then I have to choose something else. Tldr: dress in such a way where children will shriek with delight and NOT with fear.

Can we coin the term, "milisilly", as a toned down, less serious version of milsim?
Like others have commented, I started with a chest rig that I thought would give me a tactical edge. But all that junk sitting on top of my beer-gut just got in the way and made me sweat like a demon. Now, I run a battle belt "hula skirt" of various size dump pouches all around(sometime a 6x talon mag holder). I will often bring a variety of blasters for the various game types, and this setup is easily reconfigured to carry different mags, holster different sidearms in my medium or large pouches, carry spare mega or XL ammo, etc.
I really hope that this becomes a multi-part series, because what you are wearing is just as important as the blaster you are using. Like you said in the HvZ primers, you don't want to take the field with the best blaster in the world and have what you're wearing be the failure that gets you tagged.
    Bangarang!

I showed up in my OTV vest in the indoor, mostly close-quarters fighting with short, frequent rounds, an Iceplate, and a mask on (because building restrictions) and the vest didn't breathe. I overheated practically instantly and have since swapped to a Condor lightweight chest rig, since it was a windless, relatively hot, large, brightly lit room in a humid coastal city.
On the other hand, the "battle femboy" of my local group showed up in an athletic skirt and a crop top and he dominated.
That's my two cents on this: Make sure you take the context of the event into account! And do keep in mind, this is a contact sport. You WILL be exercising. You WILL be running. Dress appropriately.

  • @flametitan100
    @flametitan100 2 года назад +2

So, one of the things I'm working on is differing levels of tac gear appropriate to different events. On the extreme "full tac gear" end, I have the samurai armour from NFstrike in silver, a plate carrier, and a paintball mask. I intend to paint the mask with rather bright green and purple accents, and hopefully find some purple clothes to go under the armour and complete the look.
Likewise, I want to make something that goes completely in the opposite direction. Little to no tac gear, looking more like a civilian who just happened to survive the apocalypse, rather than someone prepared to fight it. This minimalist look would probably better fit the public event cases where you want to look safe. This one I just need to get something that can hold spare mags while fitting the civilian look. Still keep the purple, but maybe in plaid instead of a solid colour.
And of course, with those extremes prepared comes the room to do something in between. Is the plate carrier allowed but not the samurai gear? Is the paintball mask allowed, or do they want to see my face?

First, 6:06 had me laughing hard. And you do basically have the "Generic Low Level Mook" look.
Second, this video does have me inspired to add a lot more color to my load out. Sadly most of the Tactical gear I see on Amazon or can get in surplus stores tend to be Black or "Really, Really, Really Dark Gray". I'm going to see about adding more colors to my gear in what ever way I can. I'll have unused loops, I can stick brightly colored ribbon and paracord in there.
Do you think fabric bleach would work on Nylon?

Funny thing, fighters in media like comics or movies, change their gear over time, and the more experienced they become, the more colourful their gear usually gets, as they don´t need to appear totally serious anymore. Instead they would wear comfortable and more colourful gear, as to reflect their growth as a character, as well as to show their increase in confidence.

This is my logic, if you’re gonna dress tactical, dress tacticool not tactical, try to dress how nerf makes fortnite blasters.
Blasters which are based on real fire arms but are given odd curves and lines and bright colors. to clearly show it’s a toy, you can tell what’s it’s based off but you can tell it’s Not a real Firearm.
I wear green LBV88 over white or neon orange, hadn’t had a single problem. I have had lots of people come up and ask then even join in. as they could tell i was “being tactical but also not a threat”
I tend to run White and orange as my colors with black and green(mainly green) as my ammo carrying stuff. I try to always run a white or orange shirt, with knee pads that are colored white and orange, blasters too. At first I ran a black chest rig but now run old army LBV 88 gear which honestly with a white or orange shirt makes me look like I’m working construction and have a tool belt. My inspiration to move from black chest rig to LBV88 was construction workers literally , as I wear a tool belt at work and get told I look like one, so I thought “maybe i could translate this to my loadout” . And I love it, I prefer the feel, the weight, I’m really skinny do chest rugs fit very loose on me, LBE fits must better. plus I feel safe and I try to play my “character” only during games.
Also I live in AZ, black gear is a heat stroke waiting to happen

Greetings captain. I had a question. While I don't go to Nerf games, I planned on going eventually. Going by my name, I planned on wearing an American WW2 uniform. Do you think this get-up still applies to what game I go to, even if it is done in respect of country, and relatives?

    • @CaptainXavier
      @CaptainXavier  2 года назад

Depends on the event. A WWII LARP? Perfect place for it. Public Nerf War in a Park? Probably ok if a bit dramatic. (nothing wrong with a little drama) HvZ on Campus? Maybe a bit much? I'd ask the Mods just to be safe.

@@CaptainXavier Alright, thanks. As far as drama goes, I don't really mind lol. I also tend to wear it in public a few times a year, and here in Idaho, it's actually kind of respected here. Thanks for the advice, once again.

@@CaptainXavierwell it’s marine armor, mostly 3d printed, sans helmet. Thankfully zombie tags won’t be an issue, and my (new) plan is to ditch the armor somewhere safe if tagged, since it’s honestly awful to run in. Turns out there’s a good reason why actual militaries don’t wear plate armor anymore.

Plus side to that, military fatigues are super comfy, have lots of pockets for personal items , and they make them in absolutely wild colors these days.

Sir, please, please, elaborate on how to pull together this look. Perhaps there is a standard uniform? Your servant, Nerfer of Fortune. P.S. I regret I am beard challenged. Prithee take pity.

I want to know what you think of the death of public wars that seems to be going on or at least starting, it seems to me as though it doesn't matter what blasters we bring or what we wear anymore and that people will get the police called on them regardless. This isn't a call to wear all black because that's just stupid why would you do that in public, it's more so saying that with how unfamiliar people are with the difference between Nerf gun and a real gun... that maybe this is all fruitless

    • @CaptainXavier

Has there been a death of Public events? From what I have seen they are more common now than ever before. Might just be my perspective though.

The club I help run has been holding events for the vast majority of Plague, within our State's guidelines. We saw a drop in attendance for a while, but zero drop in outsiders causing problems for us.
We play in public parks and are very strict about blaster colours, the majority of the group runs light "tac gear" cheap molle vests and such. A few of us go a little more kitted, myself included. No matter who's in attendance, about once a month someone calls the park rangers. We've been playing these parks for years, the park staff knows our council on a first name basis. They've never made us stop our events for these outsiders but we constantly hear "they thought you guys were dangerous" or some other nonsense. I have a tendency to believe that it's more a problem with the general public and less a problem with the gear.
