I appreciate Queen Latifah's choosing Phoebe Snow's "Poetry Man". That is just the kind of song to be remembered for the beautiful music Phoebe Snow gave us. As well as her The Dana Owens Album. Two songs in particular: "Hard Times" "Hello Stranger" are among the great music represented on this album.

I figure that sometimes we forget that singers are regular folks like us and sometimes they simply want to do something because THEY ENJOY IT doing it (that way). And for me...well thats a good enuff reason for anyone to remake anything in anyway...cuz they enjoyed doing it 'like that'.

Doing a cover like the original with the same vocal inflections is what 14 to 16 yr olds do. This is why I Dont play in funk bands locally anymore. I did that in high school. I saw Phoebe in 1977 and she put on a helluva show! She didn't sing Poetry Man and a guy complained! She sang 2 jazz related tunes an another record and jazz folks got fired up. Phoebe said she was a rock and roller. This is interpretation not music

She didn't do to bad... but the difference between her and Phoebe is this. Phoebe voice is so versatile. Phoebe can arrange her voice at so many levels on one song as she does. I can't dismiss the acoustic guitar that she herself played as she sung this phenomenal song which even enhance it more. Nice someone wanted to sing this song, but there's only one person that mastered this tune... Phoebe Snow!

I love Rap music, I love Classical, to all types of music, I can be whatever I want, on any type of level I want as a Black women, and classy. The point should just be'' Queen Latifah did a nice job, yes she wasn't Phoebe, but it was nice. All women should be classy! Watch many of your White reality shows before generalizing.

Why bother w/ a remake if you sing it the exact same way as the original? The mildly updated musical arrangement was good, too bad she didn't alter her stinging style and make the song her own. Still, its a classic song and will last longer than Queen Latifah and Phoebe Snow combined.

This is nice, but IMO the best version is by my neighbor Ginger Leigh. It was live at the Saxon Pub here in Austin. It's on RUclips.

She has a nice voice... but no one can compare to Phoebe Snow and no one plays it on the guitar like her either.
