Bulgaria is located in the extreme south east of Europe, a country of natural splendour, fairy-tale like villages, ancient ruins, and monasteries with remarkable frescos as well as a culture that is between both Orient and Occident. Sofia, the ‘wise woman’ and, since 1879, capital of the new Bulgaria, a city whose roots date back to the fifth century B.C. Once Thracians settled, then followed Romans, Goths, Huns and Ottomans. At the end of the nineteenth century the city’s appearance changed from Oriental to European into a dynamic metropolis. Sofia’s historic city centre features the most splendid sacred building in the Balkan Peninsula, the Aleksandâr Nevski Cathedral, a work of art of the Russian Orthodox religion that can accommodate a congregation of more than five thousand. Vidin is dominated by the Baba Vida Fortress whose impressive towers and bastion date back to the thirteenth century. From the banks of the Danube the north western entrances to the mediaeval realm were strictly controlled and the fortress protected it from invasion by ship. Varna is the biggest city on the Black Sea coast and is one of Europe’s oldest cities. The golden, shining domes of the impressive cathedral in the city centre are one of its main landmarks. The caves of western Rhodopes are the main destination for many of the region’s visitors, such as the Jagodina Cave that is ten kilometres long and extends up to five levels within the limestone mountains. It is the longest and deepest of the Rhodopes and its tunnels and huge galleries feature traces of prehistoric inhabitants. Bulgaria - on the border of both Occident and Orient - a country full of history and natural beauty with authentic culture and overwhelming hospitality. A colourful mixture of fascinating tribes with a large variety of tradition and, according to legend, a part of paradise that God gifted to the Bulgarian people!

Rose oil's not very expensive..but ya they'll smell it from km! :D ..
Only in one region the rose oil is harvested and made of pure roses, its unique. Almost all famous cosmetic manufacturers buying these essence. Because the hard harvesting by human hand only, this essence cost its expensive! Something like: 1 Liter cost around same as 1 kg. pure gold.

This is a great documentary and it's nice to see all the beautiful places & traditions of Bulgaria :)
I didn't watch the full video but I just want to mention that the Bulgarians have settled on these lands in the 7th century and indeed were in the Ottoman empire for 500 years but we have never been muslim. Not only that but the Aleksander Nevksi Cathedral is not Russian Orthodox, but Bulgarian, established in 870, much before the Russian. I don't want to sound nationalist or anything, but I just believe the video quotes incorrectly.
Catch_Me_If_You_Can Yeah, my mistake, The First Bulgarian Empire was established in the 7th century, we settled in this lands before that. It is true the Russians adopted the Cyrillic and became Christian Orthodox
but I wouldn't go as far as saying that we baptized them and gave them letter. Native Bulgarians who are Muslim, also known as Pomaks are rather an exception to the mostly Christian population.
in the 7th sentury we declare the official name of the country "THE GREAT BULGARIA" (by the time there was more than 50 tribes who inclube the name Bulgaria Bogharia Bulharia, Barbharia and so on .. who was a part of one great ancient society or nation lets say ancient Bulgarian great empire deep down to 6k years old roots), but the people who populated the lands are more than 6k years older - before the chinese and indians and romans and byzantines - here were 7 GREAT slavic-tracian tribes (also known as Proto-Bulgarian ancient tribes who also are a part of ancient Persia) Onogonduri, Kutiguri, Bersili, Cotragi, Hunoguri (Huns), Utiguri, Uiguri and yes also some of them Nomads (the strongest mobile horseman army at that time) they caused building of Chinese Great wall, those 7 tribes was separated and spread to whole Europe, Asia and far (from Italy to Korea all the way) and so on ... Also Orpheus who was described in ancient Greek mythology is Bulgarian ... there are countless facts of countless years of history about Bulgaria. BULGARIANS HAS NEVER BEEN MUSLIMS!

+Topi Kauppinen it had more churches and monasteries than anything else in this video... :) Interestingly enough that most resorts weren't even mentioned - whether on the sea coast like ALbena, Golden Sands, Sunny Beach, St Konstantin, Dunite, montain resorts like Bansko, Pamporovo... I think it was better that culture and history was bolded on as it carries a spirit of some places and definitely worth visiting. ALso close to SHipka there is a MASSIVE communist monument in the forl of flying saucer, where the first communist party in Bulgaria was gathering. It's in ruins now, but remains very high attraction for climbers, historics and photographers. Bulgaria is the third country in Europe by historical relics and monuments after Greece and Italy. Land that gave to the world Spartacus, land that saw many conquest battles from Antic World up until 20th century, land that saw religions clashes, crusades... waiting to be explored further

Your comment is from many years ago, but the Orient does not exist in Bulgaria. Segregation is huge and there is no gypsy culture outside the ghetto, you cannot find a gypsy in Bulgaria.
