Here's my solution. I have a Cobra 29 LX and i have been getting the "antenna warning" pop up every time I key up.
Recently I switched trucks and it was working on the one that i left and wasn't working on the one i moved into.
Rather than changing factory settings, I knew it probably wasn't my radio. So it HAD to be from the antenna to the radio. I found it. My coax connection at the antenna was sheared off but still looked viable.
It's a connection issue or a swr issue not a radio issue.

At ANY external antenna connection-if possible, or power connections, use a dielectric grease on the PL259 center pin and threads, just a tiny bit, to prevent any corrosion that WILL occur, making for a good electrical connection. The grease WILL NOT affect the RF signal and you can rest assured that the radios performance will be the best it can be....

As long as your antennas are calibrated and your swr is correct, that could be a fix. But that warning is usually due to hi swr which comes from antennas not being properly calibrated. At some point your finals will burn out and you're also not taking advantage of how good your radio can work, if your antennas haven't gotten properly calibrated.

The Antenna Warning Light is Their for Reason . If You Have High SWR above 1.5 Reading So the CB Radio Won't Blew UP Inside 50 o Transmitter . Check you Antenna 's and Cable Run System for Issues and Re-Cal Cobra SWR System Internal or Use SWR Meter Hand-Held Unit . Don't Key the Mic-Button Until the Warning Light Goes-Away .You Will Damage the CB Unit Permanently . Don't Open Box-Cover a Play In-Side the Unit ,That's No No !
    Hope this Helps.

Just so you know, by doing this all you are doing is adjusting the threshold for the warning light and not fixing the problem. You would do just as well with putting tape over the light. If you are not tuning the antenna system, you are not fixing the problem. Changing the antenna or antennas will not fix the problem. You are just putting on another untuned antenna. Most reputable CB shops will adjust the antenna to a usable SWR. No your radio is not going to immediately blow up but high SWR will shorten the life of it and effect the range of transmit and receive.

I’m not being trying to be critical here. I know you said you don’t know much about cbs but, you should never key the mic without an antenna hooked up. The transistor output has nowhere to go but back into itself. Therefor damaging it. To check your SWR you calibrate just like you did, unkey the mic, tap the button till it says SWR, then key the mic again to get the reading. Many of these CB’s “SWR meters” are not very accurate. It’s ideal to use a separate one made for this as they are more accurate.
I will say you did answer my question. Instead of turning it off tho I will make it flash where I want it to… and set it there using an accurate meter. If you see this warning flash it is a good idea to actually check the SWR. Otherwise you could be high… like say, 3 or 4. That is what burns up the final transistor(s). They’re not hard to change but, it can be avoided all together with a meter and a RUclips search on how to do it. Thank you!

You should check your swr before you adjust vr 6, keying up your radio with no antenna connected can weaken or burn out your final transistor, don't assume that your antenna is right, always check your swr before you start turning screws.

  • @RhythmicSensations
    @RhythmicSensations Год назад +1

So this is likely where that poor trucker girl got her information. Adjusting the sensor to the warning indicator stopped you from being aware that there is an issue, but the warning was due to a high SWR.
You disabled the warning circuit and ignored the issue which is causing the high swr?
People, look for videos showing how to test and correct high swr, never open a radio unless you are qualified to do so. That warning can now be ignored, and the cause not fixed? Please don't do this.

Hey also,if there is a negative to positive interaction this will also happen.1st take a good look at how you have hooked things up 1st.2nd take another look after you have made some new adjustments looking better into your set up then with what you can't find or figure out this option is great so that you can transmit. That really is the only thing this warning does and it's a big deal to not be able to use what you paid for.But there has to be a negative to positive interaction that shouldn't be taking place is why the warning is reacting and finding that issue is worth it for a good set up.Thanks for the tip because I'm still getting warnings that do go away but still getting warnings temporary and so Awsome fix good to know.
Appreciate the touch on the tunes but kinda loud bro and maybe a better tune a little lower. But the music took from the video. I feel ya feels every one is pointing out a thing.I appreciate the video ya know. Try some guitar rhythms hahaha or deadmau5 better or start your own music set yeah.Good 1st try there is a thing in Chicago called musical soundstreams there long trippy tunes for people that like to chill 15 minute 20 25 minute long jams that stared along time ago before 90's.Sunday nights 10 till Midnight something like that 107.5 is a R and B station but changes on Sundays you can't find the music anywhere else.
Follow up update. I have a brand new Cobra 29 LX MAX and this worked for me.All I did was just turn it CLOCKWISE just a little to the right and got back all my channels.
My issue I got the K40 the big monster coil 10,000 watt in black cb antenna.Well the rod that is used to extend or decrease the over height of the cb antenna, if you don't have the rod fully extended alot of the rod is in the hollow base of the cb antenna and I feel it is touching. The only connection should be at the top of the base antenna where the set screws are located not also in the hollowed out body. The antenna is super long and has to be cut.
So what I did I have a Peterbilt 579 and the set up is in the back so what I did is get the height of the antenna over the roof line of the cab.
Not much higher in case there are some 13"6' tall overpasses but my antenna is extended and easily goes that far but still has a ton of antenna still left in the body of the base antenna. So I got my height and clipped the rest off.Right away I noticed the warning wasn't as no where near as dominant but would come on briefly. So I did this fix it worked I checked every channel and didn't move this fix at all really.Just a little to the right very little just a slight turn and it worked.I got all my channels which is Awsome.
This fix works on the newest Cobra 29's.

That setting is sensitive for a reason and changing it before going through several other tests of the antenna with a good SWR meter of antenna and coax analyzer is foolhardy to be sure.. I have seen wet and corroded antenna connectors, bad grounding at the antenna, bad coax that got pinched/chewed/melted etc.. Heck I even saw 2 different antennas that were hit by lightning and the wire inside melted plus a few melted by high powered kickers.. So my advice is if you don't know what you are doing or don't have the proper stuff to test or adjust things DON'T DO IT..

However, the fail ONLY happens when the truck is RUNNING. Works just perfect when sitting still, key on, doors and windows closed, etc - and flashes the warning when the engine is on, regardless of if you're heading down the road, or sitting still. Been looking online, and can't seem to find anyone else with this problem on any forums, or RUclips.

A tip if your SWRS are 1.1 to 1.5 and still getting the antenna warning try turning down your mic gain it will stop the warning it only goes red when over modulation takes place

Oh my god….you’re keying the radio without an antenna….that’s good for it….just because you get a low swr reading does not mean there is nothing wrong with the antenna….the warning is there for a reason…the coax could have a short….meaning it reads low but it’s not giving all the power to antenna….that warning goes off when reflected power is too high….a shorted coax will reflect power back to the radio….the radio knows what you don’t….the best thing to do is disconnect the factory coax because it’s GARBAGE….run your own coax for better performance….then ground your antenna….not to the battery….it needs counterpoise….that is the metal of the vehicle body….run a ground strap (not wire) from the mount to the closest bolt in the body….the better coax and better ground will make the warning go away the RIGHT way and you will get better performance as well….2 birds one stone….if any of that sounds crazy just let a cb shop do it for you….but DO NOT fall for the radio tune up sales pitch….getting your antenna right will get you way more range than jacking up the radio

@@truckertavis then you unhooked it and keyed the mic while you monkeyed with the swr calibration pot….now when you get the rest of your system fixed your swr meter will no longer be accurate….there is a reason it’s flashing…if it’s beyond your skill level let someone that knows take a look at it….I’m willing to bet you’re running factory coax….that’s 90% of the problem….crappy coax reflecting power back to radio….run your own coax for best results and tune the antenna….the warning will go away after that….but you did do a nice job showing the ones who don’t worry about it how to make the warning go away….most drivers never turn their radio on and when they do they don’t really care how good or bad it works….and those are the drivers who drive for companies that still allow a cb in the truck….not bashing you just saying if you want good performance out of your radio there is a little more to it than turning the warning off

No no… absolutely no. I have no doubt this actually works but it would be easier to show somebody how to re-calibrate their own radio with their existing antenna. Especially a radio like the one you have with the built-in SWR meter that is fairly accurate. Not to mention there are CAPs in there that could shock the shit out of you or even kill you if you were to key the mic while inadvertently touching one. It only takes 0.1 amp to kill a human. If I can recall correctly your radio is typically on a 15 amp circuit. FWIW, I was an electronics technician in the Navy for 20 years.

When you turn a pod to turn off that light really helps you key the radio longer before she pops your wattage is very low which means poor performance.crank it back where it was and concentrate on your antenna.please verify this good luck..
