That poor donkey actually saved him even though he kept beating on it.

Incredible work and illustrations. This deserves more views than what it is getting. The מלאך יהוה (messenger of God - Numbers 22:22 - 27) is the same One by wording that Moses saw in the burning bush (Exodus 3:2). The Messenger of God was God that Moses was speaking to (Exodus 3:6). Moses knew God face to face (Deuteronomy 34:10). Yet, no one can behold the face of God and live (Exodus 33:20). So Moses saw Yeshua (Jesus), not God the father.
Therefore the מלאך אלהים messenger of God in Numbers 22 was Yeshua. Balaam and His donkey saw the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus).

But why was God angry with Balaam when God was the one who told Balaam to go????

Because Balaam changed his mind on the road and did not want to make what God asked him to bless the people of Israel

I think maybe God was referring to Balaam’s heart not being right, and not necessarily because he went to see Balak. God saw what was on Balaam’s heart. Maybe there was disobedience, or something bad on his mind, and God saw it before Balaam was able to express himself. Also, maybe it has something to do with God giving us free will… that’s just my opinion.

I was gonna ask this question as well. I usually stop and ponder & research but as I’m learning I am finding that if I keep reading OR if I use the script refs in the middle I can usually find the answer. As I re-read & kept reading I saw God basically say: only say what I tell u to say & Balaam also reiterated that at least twice.. that He must say what God tells him to say.. which leads me to believe that he MAY have had a change of “heart” when he first left & was planning to curse them anyway. After the donkey incident he knew God was not playing & got it together 😂 I’m not 100% sure but that’s what I believe.
