    I like PLS but I ended up getting the Spectra Precision ul633n laser with dual grade. It did cost twice as much at almost $3000 and didnt come with a tripod, but it has been excellent with my skid steer laser grader and everything else I've thrown it's way.

    That's a nice unit, grade sticks for us is a 12 foot 1x4, looked up the price on it, not bad, nice its all in one box easy grab and go. Having 1000 feet of range that's impressive, makes you wonder how much deviation there is at that distance thou. Laser levels have made it really easy, the days of using a transit and the goon holding the grade stick is long over.

      Bro, you're like a dying breed. Not many people actually want to get into the trade nowadays. If I would've known better my body would hurt this bad at 45 after being in the for 25 years I actually would've got my builder's license sooner and hopefully I wouldn't have to work so hard. Be smart and learn a lot and don't get the biggest hammer to impress the guys. Get an titanium or a lighter hammer. Oh, and don't eat the yellow snow. Lol be blessed bro. Jesus is the answer

    Beautiful tool! For the benefit of your viewers, your grade rod is graduated in feet and inches on one side and feet and tenths on the other. The dirt guys like it in tenths. Save time, have fun and make money! What could be better?

    I wonder if your old reader will work with this one, I liked the small reader with the flat side.

  • @kevinyoung8651
    @kevinyoung8651 4 года назад +2

    It's not a "reader", it's a detector or receiver. The rpm control is not for distance. No matter what the speed, the beam passes at the same fraction of a second if you're 1,000 ft away or standing right next to it. For working inside without the detector,a slower speed will allow you to see the laser beam better. For laser controled equipment you want it faster. You can find a sweet spot by fine tuning the speed. How do you calibrate it. I looked on PLSs website for a manual for that thing and couldn't find anything about calibration. If you don't check accuracy on lasers regularly, you could get in a real f up. I've gone to jobs to do the subgrade and checked their"level" to my recently calibrated laser and found they're off an inch in 100 ft. That's a lot of concrete $$$. Most times I would let the contractor know and then adjust the slope on mine to match theirs so they wouldn't have to re-form everything, and that's eft up. If you can't calibrate it, and I can't imagine why you couldn't,then go get your money back. The first laser I bought back in 94 cost$2,000 for a 1,000 ft radius,no slope. The last one I purchased around 96,97 cost close to $8,000 for a duel slope. I'm telling y'all this to show you get what you pay for.

    I teach construction trades at South Caldwell High School. I have been showing your videos to my students for probably a year now. We really enjoy them and there is a lot of teachable moments in your videos. We are in Caldwell County which is between Hickory and Lenoir. I have 2 questions for you. 1- Would you be interested to come in one day and be a guest speaker. I think you would have a lot to share with high school seniors. 2- You can probably imagine how hard it is to get funds from the school system to update our tools and equipment. Would you be willing to donate your old laser transit to the construction program to benefit students to help them learn and better prepare them to come out of school and into the field of construction. I think the school could furnish you with a receipt for tax purposes. Just let me know and Thanks for the consideration. Scott Settlemyre
