The more people watch this, the more I regret modifying the TAS footage's speed (see the description), especially since Premiere seems to have done it in a stuttery way. It would have been better to re-sync at the beginning of each chapter, and have a LiveSplit-like relative time display in the corner, but oh well hopefully it's not too noticeable
I do wonder why you took this tas run and not the one at agdq. Theres so many strats it uses there that it doesn't here. Most notably the moment where at agdq it clips through the spike wall in the mirror temple.
Race summary: -TGH got the early lead by using early cutsence skip at the beginning chapter. -TAS slowly regain the lead at the end of chapter 2 (old ruins). -TGH get the lead back by using demo dash right before the escape sequence vs Oshiro at chapter 3 -TAS almost caught up at the end of chapter 4 and the beginning of chapter 5 but did not manage. -The route diverge, TGH went for the temple B side strat and pulled ahead by almost a minute. -The rest of the race is tas trying to catch up and was manage to close the gap at the end but TGH was the winner.
You can tell there was real effort put into this video instead of lazily slapping two videos side by side. The middle portion of the screen goes from TGH's run the the TAS run when TGH is transitioning from chapter to chapter, and goes back once he's back in the game. Small detail but it has a big impact on the viewer's experience and I just wanted to thank you for that.
here's your friendly doorskip locator replacement doorskip located at 28:33 this was your friendly replacement doorskip locator, as the real doorskip locator probably isn't gonna watch this video peace
The final portion of Old Ruins (Chapter 2) is always mind blowing when you see a speed runner like TGH run it, and then you see the TAS do it even better. This whole thing was really good at showing how much better TAS is when it comes to speed and precision, even though new optimizations can let even humans be faster than an old TAS.
Y'know, I probably watched this TAS when I first started playing, and it probably blew my mind. But it's amazing how poorly optimized it is, looking at it now. No credit from Teej, who obviously had an amazing run, but the TAS did some real questionable things, haha. Cool comparison!
To all the people complaining how the routes diverge... well duh. This video is great for showing how something that seemed humanly impossible only a year ago can be beat through new strats and more efficient routes by pros like TGH. Could a newer TAS using the same route be faster? Obviously. But this comparison shows you how the celeste run evolved over time, and how players got more proficient at using strats that were seemingly impossible when they were first shown in the TAS.
One time I wanted to see how they did a room again, and they had gotten like two rooms ahead of that room so I hit left on the keyboard three times to go back fifteen seconds. I wasn't really thinking about it, fifteen seconds just felt right with the amount of things that had happened to go back like a room or two. Took me a moment to realize I had just skipped to like five rooms back before the one I'd wanted. Really made it clear how fast they were going.
It’s legit. Completing a B-side unlocks the next level. Sometimes it’s faster to unlock a B-side, quit the A-side, and then complete said B-side to move on.
Using the same route, sure, a decent TAS should basically smoke any human. But prologue skip, demodash and Bub's drop were not known or didn't exist when this TAS was made.
@@Kataiser I know they are new, but he still beat the TAS and considering that a TAS is just a bot it's more fair if the runner had some advantages. And I know that TGH's run was run 10 months later.
only if there were a way to optimize the run by inputting more precise inputs, but since the game doesn't run at 120fps, you can't control the inputs at that fps.
The problem with this video is that the TAS and the Speedrunner use completely different routes. The route of the speedrunner is way more efficient. So people saying he is better than the TAS or aheas of it, he is honestly not. If the TAS did his excact route, he would have no chance of beating it. Not trying to degrade his skill, he is more amazing at this game than I could even imagine to be, but the TAS would still always win because it has no human error in executing the inputs. Also you can perfect it so that any pixel of movement is used perfectly, which would save valuable seconds throughout a run even if the speedrunner appeared to do his run excactly the same. Those pixels would add up in a little distance between the two. So this video really serves no purpose because in all honesty the title should be: "TAS using a totally outdated and inefficient route VS. Speedrunner using the best currently known route"
@@CananaMan No it is honestly not. Old just implies that the TAS run is old, which it is. Not that the route is outdated and honestly just bad. For some games there are multiple routes you can legitimately take and be very close in efficiency to one another. In some games it has taken the speerun community years to come up with ever so small new tricks, glitches and stuff to improve their time, but here the title just implies that the TAS run is old and the Speedrun is not. The TAS being old in something like Mario Bros would not mean much since the route there has been the same for a long time, but in this video you cannot compare the 2 routes as the TAS one is terrible and outdated. But I am repeating myself so I am gonna leave it by saying, "old" and "outdated/inefficient" mean different things.
Would be a more amusing video without the skip at the beginning. Now there's just a ten second difference, making it far less interesting for the comparison
The more people watch this, the more I regret modifying the TAS footage's speed (see the description), especially since Premiere seems to have done it in a stuttery way. That TAS was actually how I discovered this game! I didn't use it because it's not the oldest one, it's not the one TGH and Flad beat.
Please pin this comment.
I did but RUclips seems to have ignored me
It's funny hearing teej complain about his run while he's ahead of the TAS
this replay is a proof that he's literally a TAS haha

Ty captain
why did he do a b side
Getting the cassette in 5a and doing 5b with Bub's drop is faster than doing 5a, and doing a B side unlocks the next chapter.
So why didn't the TAS skip that cutscene? Obviously cutscene skips were nothing new... I got pretty confused right there.

This game is about a mountain called Madeline climbing a girl called Celeste
Thanks for reading my description
The correct term is 'Celeste's Monster'
climbing up girl = poke in that ball shaped thing that contains a liquid for feeding babies
