    You didn't mention the other use of Reconnisance: You can use it in the end-of-combat step when your creatrues are still technically considered attacking creatures but have dealt their damage, to untap them, giving them pseudo-vigillance

    • @mazimus2578
      @mazimus2578 3 года назад +4

      Reconnaisance has another use in that it can give an attacking creature an infinite number of untaps. Infinite mana for instant speed spells, infinite tap effects on cards like Baby Jace, Arcanis/Azami, even cards like Chandra's Magmutt just kills everyone

    • @reggieinojales2549
      @reggieinojales2549 3 года назад +20

      @@mazimus2578 I think once it's removed from combat, the creature(s) in question won't be able untap. The prerequisite is "attacking creature" so once it's removed with the first activation the rest fizzles. Although if you attack with something that has triggers based on being targeted by abilities, you could activate infinitely, but at that point just use Nomads En-Kor.

      @@pistolpete7422 Not really double taps unless the creature has vigilance, because otherwise you have to attack first, which taps the creature. But if your opponent has no blockers, you can get some damage in and then tap.

    Reconnaissance also works as a pseudo vigilance as well. You can attack and untap after damage as there's a post-combat step. It's a powerhouse in a go wide deck as well. I run it in my Varina deck and it's brutal every time it hits the board.

    In regards to your comments on phasing.
    First off, there is a difference between cards with phasing (Teferi's Isle) and something that says phase out (e.g. Teferi's Protection).
    I think it's safe to say the dislike for phasing is quite justified. A permanent that's only in play every other turn is pretty crappy, and unappealing even if ti's somehow worth it.
    Being able to phase something out however, can be quite useful and/or powerful.
    There are pretty big differences between the two.

    reconnaissance actually enables aggro incredibly well, it's cute to trigger your commanders attack ability each turn safely, but the real strength comes when you can happily swing 10 creatures at any opponent who has 9 or less defenders, and you just get free damage since no matter how dangerous the blockers are you can just pull the guys who are in danger back. I can't stress enough how powerful this is for aggro, you never have to trade creatures to get damage through, and your board is untapped ready to defend next turn, these are two of the most glaring problems with aggro in a FFA environment and recon solves both.
    Absolutely amazing card. Run it in any white deck you can!

    I call the serene master the monk who punches the big guy and the big guy gets sad.
    A major weakness of him is that if the blocked creature has something modifying its power, like an equipment or +1/+1 counter, that will still increase the switched power of the creature. If it has at least two power artificially applied to the card, blocking is going to be a trade.

  • @rowankeltizar5961
    @rowankeltizar5961 3 года назад

    I really like Reality Ripple. In certain color combinations this is simply fantastic. I mean, yes you could cast Redirect or Deflecting Swat in response to targeted removal, but what about board wipes? Redirection effects are useless in the face of a board wipe. So you normally have no choice but to counter the wipe if you don't want to lose your commander. That's why I never run those types of redirection spells. They are too situational, can't be used offensively, and can't interact with a board wipe.
    This card works very well for virtually any blue voltronish deck. In a sense, Niv-Mizzet is a voltron commander since he is probably the only creature on your field you really need to protect for the sheer reason that paying 2UUURRR is...undesirable. In a deck like that, you are also probably running plenty of your own wipes. I run Blasphemous Act and All is Dust. I can cast Reality Ripple in response to my own board wipe to save my commander. I like that a lot! This akin to casting Wrath of God followed by a Boros Charm.
    AND THAT'S ONLY THE BEGINNING. When you start thinking about how to use this card offensively, the possibilities are endless.
    Thanks so much for the suggestion.

    that card that may be as good as the master is called Engulfing Slagwurm it's pretty much even more guaranteed to kill the creature that the master its ocastionally happened that the creatures power is lower than toughness but the wurm here just destroys what it blocks regardlses and on top of that you gain life equal to the toughness
    and to make it even more nightmaric and thats throwing in a "lure" effect in the mix it just forces all the creature's to block it and all die and the wurm doesn't and you gain a truck load of life too.

    So if you’ve been looking through every card alphabetically, will the series end when you reach Zurzoth/Zzzyxa’s Abyss? Or will you go through again, sorting by color or card type etc? I mean, if you’ve been looking through every single card and already picked out each one that stands out to you, that wouldn’t work.
    I love the series, but I guess it’s gotta end at some point.
    Ooh, the salamander could be good in my Toggo RUG Rocks deck, giving it a Sigil of Sleep or (in Christmas land) deathtouch+Scythe of the Wretched

      good question. so the first time i sorted the list i was looking primarily for older cards. so when i get to z, i'll start again through but there will be more newish cards.

    Personally I think that Reap, while instant speed, is too situational in high power compared to Compost. Compost will allow you to benefit off of all black spells, not just permanents, which is especially important because Black Spellslinger decks like Krrik(or any mono black deck) will be casting lots of rituals and tutors, something that will gain you advantage if you have Compost. Mono black decks don't tend to have a lot of black permanents in mid to high power, so Reap is only good against black tribal decks like Zombies or Vampires.

    Doesn't reconnaissance basically give everything vigilance too, I would've thought that was the primary draw

      pseudo-vigilance as you can pull the creature out of combat after damage has been dealt

      @@AsgneonthebesT iirc, the card DOES allow damage due to a little known phase at the end of combat where it’s still the combat step but damage resolves. Iirc, Command Zone had an episode that abused the hell out of the card in that way.
      Edit: just looked it up, and it does allow damage by activating it after damage is dealt and in the “end of combat” step.

      @@AsgneonthebesT iirc, yea. it still gives and receives damage as normal (depending when you activate it of course). So, if you delay the activation to the end of combat phase, damage is still dealt normally, but you resolve the reconnaissance trigger after everything else is resolved, you just get pseudo vigilance.
      It basically just means that you get to choose who/what deals damage, what receives damage (activate before damage resolves) and what doesn’t (activate on end of combat step).

      I was looking through the comments before posting this same comment. At the end of combat (after combat damage has been dealt), the creature is still considered “attacking”.
      And I just thought about how good that is with first strike - deal your damage, then untap.

    Stripe mine can destroy non basic land so if you really don't want to be able to destroy basic land use the card as it could destroy just non basic land.. btw sinkhole, is it ban? If not same idea..
