so i can't believe i missed this but while editing the video i realized you could also use widespread panic if you want to put stuff on top of your own library. like in a winota or gisath deck.
Omg, I love it. I have been musing putting together a deck to abuse that card but haven't realized the shenanigans you could do with it. Psychogenic Probe is an interesting card to ride along with it. Maybe add Ob-Nixilis that hits for ten on a tutor. Heck yeah!
Hello Demo! I used to have a YT channel about the Pauper format. Now I would like to reactivate it, but speaking of my passion, which is EDH. I would like to ask your permission to make videos in your style, always mentioning you, of course, to the public here in Brazil! Thank you very much for your attention, and keep up the good work!
Zur's Weirding works really well in a Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar deck. The commander replaces your draw with a 'Look at the top three cards of your library, choose one and put it into your hand, put the remaining cards on the bottom of your library' which technically isn't drawing a card, making you immune to the life pay ability.
Taigam, Sidisi's Hand is another that replaces the draw ability. Another commenter said it would have some synergy with Sidisi, so that might be some additional flavor to add. You could get even more cards into your grave with effect, all while not having to throw the good cards away.
Great video! I'm currently trying to build a U/B/ W deck for fun since im just getting back into Magic after a 8 year hiatus. After watching this video, I realized a cool combo would be Zur's Weirding with "Oloro, Ageless Ascetic" as a commander. You would trigger drawing from the gaining life and force them to decide if they want to lose 1 or 2 life everytime you gain life which is sick in my book!
I was about to mention reckless spite! I’ve had it since starting the game, and it’s one of the first comedic cards I remember (conspiracy printing). But I didn’t know about ashes to ashes, and it feels even better because non-artifact will hit more than non-black - though instant speed is hard to beat
Maybe not super relevant but I like the interaction of Zur's weirding in a Sidisi deck, because the creature cards that your opponents don't let you draw will go straight to the graveyard from your library and thus trigger Sidisi's ability
Wild Research + Vadok is an AMAZING combo, if you have a token generator you can keep mutating to get the discard you lost. If you stack your deck to be mostly 3 costs. So if you discard at random, it's generally a thumbs up as you have a combo piece in your graveyard to cast. So outside of exiling it, Vadok can just pull it back and Vadok can mutate to pull back the card you wanted as long it's less than 3CMC. Silly combos Wild Research into burning Inquiry, have Vadok constantly mutate to recast burning inquiry forcing players time after time to draw 3 and discard 3 at random. When your deck is designed to recast most cards you put into your graveyard by being 3 CMC or less. Restore Balance CMC 0, play it without casting it's cost. Can stop green from land searching or after say after Overloaded Winds of Abandon, to bring them back to your land count.
Not mentioning triggers like Web of Inertia would kinda be bad manners in my playgroup. You should declare that the trigger goes off so they can choose to pay it or not, not be like 'ah-ah-ah, you didn't say it'. Like it's my duty when playing cards like that or Rhystic Study to remind players of the triggers as the permanent controller and owner.
Not just manners. It is a missed trigger at that point since the opponent was never given the option for it. The game state would be rewound for them to make the choice.
@@ceulgai2817 the owner of the trigger matters though. The triggers owner is responsible for resolving it. We are essentially talking about Game play errors (blogs.magicjudges.org/rules/ipg2-1/) "Remembering one’s trigger is always the responsibility of the player who controls the ability. Nice, as soon as I saw the [Widespread Panic] card I thought of Aminatou type deck, due to the Miracle cards. That might be rather useful in a Melek, Izzet Paragon deck, or an Elsha of the Infinite deck. Could even pair it with [Wild Research] for Elsha. Add-in cards that benefit from discarding or [Library of Leng] to put it back on top of your library.
It's been a while, but enjoying getting back into your videos. :D Web of inertia goes really well with Gravestorm too. Makes me wonder how many effects are like that and if you could build a whole deck based on them. Hmm.... Widespread Panic is a trap. It sounds really good but more than 50% of the time it does flat nothing, so unless you're playing super casual... actually it's pretty bad and even then, in super casual, there probably aren't a lot of tutors flying around. Huh, I didn't know that Reckless Spite was a functional reprint of an old card. Wicked pact will certainly go into my Greven, Predator Captain deck. Zur's Weirding is low key busted in the right decks. There are so many ways to abuse a symmetrical effect like this. In Commander it's great in Nekusar, they often cant afford to pay too much life to counter all your card draw, and you just have to pay to sink anything that can ruin your plan. (Though that's more in 1v1 and not when the board teams up against you.) I actually ran this as a 2 of in my modern 8 Rack deck. Once you have them on the Rack, you let them keep their lands and pitch anything that's a threat. Since they are taking damage from The Rack or Affliction each turn, you always outpace them and just win the game.
The beauty of Widespread Panic against things like Tatyova is that due to APNAP the trigger to draw resolves after the trigger from the panic so they end up drawing the card they put on top, essentially turning Tatyova off.
In a cEDH game, unlike a prior comment I made about a Pact trigger that -must- occur, this is a "may". So yeah, if they move directly into declare attackers it's their choice to pass priority on the beginning of combat "may" effect.
There's also, Reckless Spite from Tempest(and probably reprinted other places) which is basically Wicked Pact but an Instant. Then again, it's probably better known than either Ashes to Ashes or Wicked Pact so I doubt it's as much a pull.
I always try to put Withering Boon in any deck that contains black but not blue, always surprises people! And Zur’s Weirding is one of my fave enchantments, if it sticks around as life totals get lower it’s fun to see the agonizing choices people make! 😆
The Winds of Change bit had me laughing, and yeah that seems super evil on turn 1. I want to do it! Zur's Weirding is also getting added to the list of cards that sound fun, and I think I can find it a home in my Varina deck.
If a trigger of may is put into the stack it is up the that triggered abilities controller to mention it, so in regards to that first card, since you control the enchantment, you have to be the one to bring it up, if you don't, then that's on you, and they can retroactively pay the cost
Love Zur's Weirding in my Zedruu deck. Great way to lock out an opponent when it's a 1v1. You can make them lose any answers to your board since you're gaining life, while also forcing them to spend their dwindling life to keep you from drawing a win con
I tried building a half hearted Jeskai spell slinger with Gnostro. It was way worse than my Izzet one with Keranos but Wild Research (along with Whirlwind of Thought and Jeskai Ascendancy) seemed like the real reason to play it in jeskai
The NitpickingNerds gave you a shout-out telling people they should check out your Channel very cool of them I like both of your channels a lot👍 They did it on the metagame video they put out 😊
A good card to talk about would be Woodland Bellower. Being able to get any nonlegendary green creature cmc 3 or less is very powerful in commander with getting ramp, card draw, and even removal.
Zur's Weirding in a deck like Unesh, where you're getting cards to your hand mostly from the Sphinx's triggers, so your opponents have no chance to zur's weirding your stuff since you're not 'drawing' the cards.
Wood sage in my self-mill Muldrotha is a nice include! I'm in love with Underrealm Lich at the moment for a similar reason! Allows me to keep Muldrotha a little less samey! I avoid consultation and similar effects as its just a bit boring after a few times 😁
My how the reserves list sure spiked cards up. When I bought Willow Satyr it was $20. Had it for my casual Yasova deck that leaned into just stealing other people's creatures. Favorite moment with it was stealing someone's Leovold and sacing it everytime it hit was battlefield.
I have lived the dream of a turn one Winds of Change and it was glorious. The mono white player (Avacyn) kept a two land hand and dropped Ancient Tomb first and didn't hit any lands with the Winds. Only one other person hit gas with me and I believe I ended up winning that game. Sad faces all around.
Take a look at Thran Turbine, great for any deck with signets or that cares about activated abilities. Can be manipulated to almost be a sol ring, 1 mana net 2 every turn.

Willow Satyr is like 30 euro minimum for the Legends Italian version D: Damn. Widespread Panic is really nice! Zur's Weirding is UGH if used correctly, which makes it a cool card, lmao. Wicked Pact is really nice
You can use Wild Research with Library of Leng in play as well. Then you wont need to discard in ramdom and you can choose to put it in the top of your library
Wild Research does *work* finding combo pieces in my Gavi deck turns out, when you're drawing piles of cards, the random discard doesn't hurt nearly as bad
The filter has gotta be is:old (or however else you filter the OG frames) And you probably already know this, but the pedantic white knight side of me would like you to know that the easy filter for your next batch of these is -is:old
Wood Sage would be good if you could combine it with cards that can have unlimited number in a deck, specific on color example would be persistent petitioners. Then toss it into a Sidisi deck or my choice would be a Muldrotha, the Gravetide deck. Play almost exclusively permanent cards and anything you mill out you cast later with your commander out.
@@Groodz hasn’t been updated in at least a year but this was the final first edition. The competitive meter says 83% but that is a lie. You can very quickly become untouchable while you fish for combos

I ran wild research for so long in my 5 color deck that after a few years the deck changed so much I tried to fetch a instant card with it's ability and realized I no longer had any in the deck.
if you think Widespread panic is nuts there's something that even better and might be your opponents worst nightmare its called "Psychic Surgery" it said's "Whenever an opponent shuffles their library, you may look at the top two cards of that library. You may exile one of those cards. Then put the rest on top of that library in any order." this is just so nasty its gonna absolutely make opponents really really scared to tutor for anything because whenever they shuffle their library you get to look at the top 2 cards and if one of them is just beyond nasty you can just exile it and get rid of some of their best cards. i mean if you spot "expropriate" or "Omniscience" on top your clearly gonna exile it.
I prefer Psychic Surgery from New Phyrexia. It's almost the same effect but you look a the top 2 cards and exile one of them. And also only for opponents who shuffle their deck
So now that you are at the end of the alphabet we can start over! How about Retraced Image? I think this card is way better than it looks on the surface. This also counts your opponents permanents so it should be fairly consistent as a ramp piece in a non-green blue deck. If you can copy or recur this, then you are probably going to get more value from this than say a signet. The high end: Oh you have an Omniscience in play? Now I do too. Or Rhystic Study, or any other common blue permanent.
If it helps, I had a deck list centered around Taigam, Sidisi’s hand, and all effects that replenishes your hand without drawing, and used Zur’s weirding in it to break the symmetry. I orientated the deck around card DRAW (specifically) denial, with a reanimator sub-theme, and I think it can work pretty well (didn’t playtest it yet). There is surprisingly mean things you can do to punish/prevent people from drawing while replenishing your hand with fact-or-fiction-like effects, but a nicer version should be also possible if you have a heart. Me I like possessed portal to be mean and Breathstealer’s crypt to be annoying and help our reanimation theme, to name a few. Hope it sparks some ideas !
I literally have a 4 color deck based on wild research.... the downside is so slim for a finisher that can actively protect itself. And like, if you have 3 cards in hand you have a 75% chance of tutoring for two mana, and can then just go for it again. And if you really whiff like 8 times then stick a library of leng in there and quit your whining haha. Absolute powerhouse of a card though when prophet was legal.... ugh.... try it out folks
I like your winds of change analysis, however, if you say dont put it in your deck because of the "mean" play aspect, why not just advise to NOT play the mean way. Otherwise its a 1 mana value wheel with great synergy. I find in my wheel decks i want to play more than 1 wheel per turn, and that is a great card to do so
@@edhdeckbuilding i was talking about making a list compiling all the cards in the “cards you should be putting in your commander decks” so we can reference them without having to dig through 17 videos

Xenic Poltergeist is going in my Kardur, Doomscourge deck!
Or Rhystic Study, or any other common blue permanent.
i guess we'll see tomorrow.
love me some willow satyr btw. fun fact xenic poltergeist makes equipment fall off
Zur's weirding is some kind of a pet card for me, but I havent find a place for it. Maybe in my Pako or Oloro deck.
Wood sage in UG persistant petitioners. Very fair.
How about Dubious Challenge? Any way to break that jank, I have a couple copies.
Zur's Wierding + Necropotence = ❤❤ no one can pay life to make you discard cards you're not drawing 😏
wow, nice.
zurs weirding is one of my favorite cards!!!!!
Wood sage would essentially get you 2 cards every draw step for free with Sylvan Library.
Zurs weirding is sick in my nekusar wheels. Haha
You should have touched on how wicked pact is good in Vilis, broker of blood
you just did buddy.
Xenic Poltergeist is BONKERS in Horobi decks
I like your winds of change analysis, however, if you say dont put it in your deck because of the "mean" play aspect, why not just advise to NOT play the mean way. Otherwise its a 1 mana value wheel with great synergy. I find in my wheel decks i want to play more than 1 wheel per turn, and that is a great card to do so
i was sort of kidding there. people can do as they like.
@@edhdeckbuilding still love that you made it to Z finally! Best edh/magic channel, love your underrated decks and unique perspective!
YES!!! He's not done 😊
Is wicked pact not just a worse ashes to ashes?
probably. but ashes to ashes starts with an A.
Zur's weirding seems pretty good in yuriko
You should put these lists into a tappedout or moxfield list for reference
what does that mean? for reference? the card is on the screen.
@@edhdeckbuilding i was talking about making a list compiling all the cards in the “cards you should be putting in your commander decks” so we can reference them without having to dig through 17 videos
so you want me to help people not watch my videos? no thanks.
Wild Research is truly wild
Was the filter any card older than 10 years or something?
close
Sidisi is my #1 deck. Self mill is just fun to watch it go brrr. I've played with Zur's Weirding but it's in my experience slowed down games because anything meaningful someone pays to have it discarded. Kind of made it unfun
Play Winds of Change on Turn 1 after you kept it and one Mountain. Because lulz.
Fun things happen when u play zur weriding in a high/cedh setting
Please for the love of god don’t play Zur’s weirding in a Muldrotha deck. I hate that so much.
wood sage plus zurs weirding in muldrotha? 😆
Ok you might have made me remake my tap deck cause web of inersa tells you your oppenet is attacking you letting you tap down the strong creatures before the declare the attackers and its pointless
correct is does do that. good point.
Winds of change here I come
Cmc filter would make sense 🤔
I was thinking “older cards” filter
@@goesbyAustin 🤔🤔🤔
Dash hopes is another black counterspell but it's not quite as good because if the opponent really wants to they can just pay 5 life.
and everyone will probably pay.
Reckless Spite is strictly better than Wicked Pact - its an Instant.
Got it!
Grats
@@andrewcoumbe6251 I can now die a happy man, I'd like to thank edh deck builder, my wonderful mother, Andrew coumbe, Richard Garfield and Ronald McDonald. Thank you and God bless.
i think you like enchantments because you like to make magic be more fun and enchantments are cards that add rules and slow the game down to stop the degenerate combo kids like me.
Ashes to ashes exiles for the same speed and casting cost as wicked pact
