@@sfmz3 I used Siam Legal International, but I check all the boxes required to apply for my VISA of choice.
In the Trendy Office Building, located in Soi Sukhumvit 13, there is plenty of "VISA agencies" specialized in "mission impossible" kind of cases (they are much more expensive, asking 35,000 THB for support in a VISA application, with a guaranteed 100% success rate. However, what they do is basically a fraud).

I’ve been coming and going to TH for 15 years. Having both short and long stay visas. I’ve been using visa services and I’ve done the paperwork myself. I’m pretty familliar with how TH gov thinks. Without having read the official info about the DTV _my interpretation_ is you can stay for 180 days in TH during a 5 year period with multiple entries. I.e. pop in for a week or two (no longer that 180 days) doing whatever while still be allowed to do some work and then leave again. Extending a visa is basically a new application when the old expires and therefor a new fee. 1 extention is normal for any visa nowadays and then you have to leave the country. You are allowed to do your own Freelance work or work for your current employer while staying in TH. This would normally require a work visa so DTV should be alot easier if you fit this profile. Do note that a NEW application for the same type of visa is NOT an extention of your current visa. You can apply over and over, just saying… ALSO do note that if you stay in TH for more than 180 days you become a tax resident of TH which is probably why the DTV is for 180 days only… I doubt you get anything for your tax-recidency status when it comes to public services, you still will have to keep xpat health insurance covering 400.000 thb minimum.
The Thai multi year visa scheemes for 5/10/20 years which you can buy for millions of Bath are in reality not 5/10/20 year visas. They are 1 year Non-O Retired visas that will be applied for yearly by the staff working for the scheeme (they essentially act as a regular visa service). Yes, they throw in some massages etc included in the price but instead of paying 1900 THB / year for a Non-O Retired visa where you need to show 800.000 thb you pay millions of Bath extra for a few massages. You need to see through the hyoe with everything in TH. Buyer beware! You still need to do 90-day reporting of your whereabouts, there’s no getting around that.
During my 15 years it has never been easier to apply for a visa than what it is currently. If you can spell your own name you can do it yourself. Contact the Thai embassy in your county or Thai Immigration and ask for a an application and a checklist of what paperwork they require, after assembling the documents, then it literally only takes about 7 minutes to fill out the application. They have made it much easier than what it used to be. Sorry for the long post! Good Luck and Welcome to Thailand. :)

So...indeed it is great news but without the actual confirmed 100% truth being out there, at the moment its all conjecture and hypothesis of what each individual thinks it means.
My take is that in a 5 year period you can come in for two periods not exceeding 180 days at a time but those culmulative 180 days could be a stretch of say: 60 days, 20 days, 40 days, 10 days then 50 days FOR EXAMPLE, then your next period of 180 days starts (after a nifty 10k payment to re-up the visa) where you could for example do a straight 180 days in country.
After that, apply again after 5 years has lapsed from origional uptake...with another 10k and proof of cash in bank (just in case).
See how differently my assumation varies with everyone elses?
Conjecture, hypothesis and clickbate (as opposed to any other type of 'bate) - we will need to wait and seeee........😁
    Just saying!

When you leave and come back your 180 days will reset, and you'll own no fee. this is literally what the re-entry is all about. essentially you're paying the 10,000 because you're choosing to buy a NEW DTV, and restarting your 180 days. Japan has this as well, and probably other countries. but seriously this is cheap and awesome.

  • @robertgroves391

Most of your video you are only surmising what might be, it hasn’t even been implemented yet and there are no real official details. You will not be able just to do border runs every 180 days and then re-enter and get another 180 days and then continue to do that for 5 years.

  • @sylviachen9184
    @sylviachen9184 3 месяца назад +5

There's so much confusion around this visa. Some are saying it's 180 days each year for 5 years with one extension over the 5 years, so you would be in Thailand 6 months of the year, then you would need to live somewhere else for the other 6 months. Others are saying it's a total of 180 days for the entire 5 years with one extension. In this case, wouldn't you be able to buy another DTV after the 360 days? Then what you are saying, you can basically stay the whole year each year for 5 years as long as you leave the country every 6 months. Until we see it rolled out we won't know what the rules are, but I hope it happens soon!

Benefits of a Thailand DTV Visa
These details are also not fully confirmed, and are subject to change:
The income requirements and visa fees are lower for Thailand compared to other Southeast Asian countries
    offering similar visas.
You can extend the visa once for up to 180 days which costs you 10,000 THB.
A total of 93 foreign nationalities are eligible for the DTV Visa Thailand.
This visa allows you to legally work remotely while in Thailand for international companies and clients.
You can bring along your spouse and any children below the age of 20.
As the visa lets you stay up to 180 days in Thailand, you won’t need to pay any taxes on income derived from foreign sources.

My take is that you have 180 days per year in each year of the five year visa term, with a one-time option to extend 180 days in any one of those five years, but only ONCE. I disagree that you can reset the 180 clock by making a visa run. The multiple reentry just allows you to come and go as you please, but 180 days per year in Thailand is the max. But hey, TIT! I could be completely wrong.

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is a newly announced visa designed to support the government’s efforts to increase tourism in Thailand. It provides an incentive to foreigners that work remotely, colloquially referred to as “digital nomads”, to stay and work in Thailand for extended periods without immigration or tax concerns.
If you successfully acquire a DTV, you will be rewarded with a 5-year multiple-entry visa and the right to stay in Thailand for a total of 180 days a year, with an option to extend for another 180 days. This is the perfect kind of visa if you’re looking to experience the Land of Smiles as a remote worker and earn income without the many restrictions and drawbacks of standard tourist visas.

that's simple Chris. Living there for no more than 180 days per year (accumulated) and also is not going to trigger the tax implications. That's a great visa for those earning the income from outside Thailand. The bad part, you have get out and live in a different country for min 6 months every single year. It's the same in Canada for the multi-entry visas.

OF COURSE they are going to apply the 10,000 baht again for the next round! I have zero doubt. But that's only like $275 USD. If a $550 per year cost deters people from using this visa, then in my opinion, they are not "digital nomad" enough to do this and should probably stay at home or go to Cambodia or whatever instead (I don't know whether Cambodia would be any cheaper).

Is the term actually RENEWAL or EXTENSION?
It sounds to me like the 180 days is a cap. So regardless whether you come for one month at a time, six times in one year or you come for 6 months in a single trip you cannot stay 181 days. And this makes sense because on that 181st day you will become a tax resident. You might as well get the LTR at that point.
I think the word RENEWAL means you can renew a DTV one time only. Like term limits. When your 5 years end you can get another 5 years but when that expires you're done. You'll have to leave or change your visa category.
What do they say about health insurance with a DTV? Do you need to get tourist / expat coverage or are you eligible for local? That should give you a big clue.
Again, I'm not a legal expert and of course government rules are often not logical but this would be my take based on what you presented in this video.

Sounds to me this ideal (and targeted) for those who want to 'winter" in Thailand. As most will come from Northern hemisphere this will lift the economy in the 'off season', but you could also use your 180 days/Yr in chunks.
Either way, each time you stay it will eat up your 180 days, no visa runs to get another 180 days, as this is why they offer the one off extension?
If I'm wrong, then I really don't understand and it's more complicated than it needs to be, again?!

I think this is the best option for me at this moment. I am retired and have as-well the required 800000 Bath on the bank, as the 65000 Bath income, to get a retirement visa.
But at this moment I still work some extra in Europe and live on my sailing yacht in the south of France. But every winter I go for 3 or 4 month to spend winter in my beloved Thailand. Each time with one long or two short border runs. With creates the problem of expensive accommodation. And in-between flights that also consume money. If I can rent for 6 month; I can have a really comfortable room near Srinakarin or OneNut for less then 10000 Bath a month. Witch makes my winterhome cheap and comfortable. And besides I can do some remote work for my European employer.
I just wonder; if I will have to pay taxes when I stay there for 5 month? And second; where will I have to pay each year those 10000 Bath visa fee? Or is it to pay 50000 Bath at once when you et the visa?
If somebody knows more and has experience. You can always let me know. 👌

I'm sorry, but if this visa allows me to stay 180 days (or by extension 360 days) a year, it's not a 5-year visa. It's maybe a total of 1 year visa, not 5 years. And I think it's not really better than the regular tourist visa which is now extended for 60 days visa exemption (I know, not really visa), and if you do the calculation, 60 days a year, times 5 years, you get a total of 300 days in 5 years. So if the DTV is really for 1 year in total, it ain't a 5-year visa.

  • @honsemor

Not sure I see the point of DTV visa if you get 60+30 easily for 2000 baht and can continue doing visa runs. 180 +180 total in 5 years isnt really that much. Think I will continue with my visa runs.

I can travel with a tourist visa and stay 60 days and extend to 90 days. I can do that several times over 5 years and can stay longer. And all other visas which are really easy are freaking expensive. Even this one is too expensive. All Thailand has been doing lately is pissing off Farangs. Too complicated visas, too expensive and too many requirements. Not to start about the Taxes which as well no one seems to have facts to go by.

Sorry you are trying to be optimistic and upbeat about Thailand but as usual with any information relating to visas Thailand like to treat us like a mushrooms ( keep us in the dark and feed us sh*t)
Think this visa will suit many people but not those wishing to stay here long term, they will let you stay the 180 days but anything longer will require so many hoops for you to jump through that it becomes impractical. This is not going to be a visa run visa where you can simply hop over the border and then stay for a further 6 months (if thats what they wanted they just let people do continuous visa runs but they have spent years trying to stop those practices. Any extension over the 180 days will require tax registration and proof of income
This visa would be cheaper and easier for retirees especially if dependent are included at the moment its 800,000 each for a married couple of expats,
So many questions about this visa lol

Thailand are the only country in the world who treat immigration as a business to make as much money as they can. Most countries issue visas which are all unlimited re-entry included, not Thailand. This new visa might be 10,000 baht per 6 months. Anyone staying longer might be treated as a Thai tax resident and forced to pay 17% tax.
