    Bromance. They are always in sync indeed, and that's a reason to love 2set 🥰
    Also, thanks for your detailed critique! It was interesting to see you react to their playing

    Thank you for such an insightful critique of the Brett and Eddy’s playing the first movement of the Bach Double. I have watched all your TwoSet Mendelssohn 4 Mill Concert critiques and have found them both informative and fair. Looking forward to the second movement. Also, your new microphone sounds fantastic.

      @SimonStreuffViolinEducation Can you please share aby tips for learning fast passages quickly and easily, especially to someone learning later in life who can't afford a teacher or any online courses or anything? And tips to not get bored or frustrated learning longer, more advanced and challenging pieces? Thanks for your time.

      @@leif1075 play with different rhythms and divide the fast parts into sections. The process of learning to play fast has a lot to do with experimentation and constant effort. Practicing in dotted rhythm works wonders. If you get bored, just improvise some melodies with the same notes of the fast passage. F.e. play it like a slow melody.
      Also I have a video on playing fast on the violin on my channel: ruclips.net/video/r98g-ZlLVuc/видео.htmlsi=E6iLm_HmT9RboQbW

    I believe the choice of who plays what Strad was in part that the one Brett played showed off the sweetness of both the 2nd movements. Eddy's Strad has a darker element.

    Woo! I was waiting ❤
    I really enjoy your critiques... It's insightful and very fair, and you are kind in delivery.
    Brett had a master class wirh Maxim and I personally think that he improved a lot in my untrained ears. Though i prefer Eddy's playing.
    Thank you and i look forward for 2nd movement.
    Also: the Bach double I always listen to is also Menuhin but with Oistrakh as 2nd. They do play like you were describing of how Menuhin play, more romantic ways, and I do like it.

      @SimonStreuffViolinEducation  Год назад +2

      Menuhin lifted this piece to where it is today, he had a part in making it popular again!

      About Eddy vs Brett's playing: I love both of their playing and they both have their unique style and repertoire that's particularly suited for. But in terms of quality I think (just speculation though) the reason why Brett is technically more accomplished is because he wasn't under as much pressure from his parents to do amazing in school, so he probably spent a lot more time practicing (vs. studying) than Eddy *and* until they got their Widenhouse instruments, Eddy was held back for a decade playing on a not-so-great instrument that couldn't keep up with his progress. They've both improved since then, but I think it's been really noticeable how much and fast the gap between them has lessened since.

    • @gimletrose1985
      @gimletrose1985 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@Casutama Yes, I tend to agree with what you speculated. He also had whole 9 months or so of him unable to play his violin. I prefer Eddy's playing even before their new instruments because of his musicality, and with time and practice, I think he'll be able to gain more technical skills to express what he's wanting to do to express his musicality even more (I hope this makes sense)

    Hi Simon! Love your performance critiques so I must comment on this one (but I would also LOVE to hear you review other performers!). Several things.
    I agree with you, that they probably should have swapped the instruments - Brett played it safe by going with Empress Caterina. Although, maybe the bright, extroverted sound suited the youthful energy of Mendelssohn? Either way, I think it was a huge gamble for them to play on the instrument they only had a month to spend time with for such milestone concert. Perhaps, Eddy took one for the team and let Brett choose the instrument first.
    You pointed out that the Bach double isn't the hardest concerto. That is probably why it's so easy for me to hear this concerto to sound "student-y", like someone is playing for an exam. But boy, does it make my heart swell when it's done right!! The way two melodies intertwine, especially the second movement, I can listen to it on repeat. My current "reference" interpretation is by Stern/Perlman - another duo that sound very different, but this time the tension between the two of them is just right, it keeps this concerto super interesting yet listenable. Can't wait for your review of the 2nd movement critique!
    PS: I recently had an opportunity to hear a certain top tier soloist perform shortly after he switched from a Strad to a Guarneri. He sounded technically amazing (orchestra less so...) but he looked SO visibly uncomfortable. Constantly tuning on stage the entire time, and it did feel like he was using this rural town concert as a "warm up" for his new instrument - which felt a bit disrespectful to the audience and the music.

    • @SimonStreuffViolinEducation
      @SimonStreuffViolinEducation  Год назад +1

      I recently saw something on instagram of a violinist playing a Guarneri now. I don't remember who it was though. Maybe Hadelich? Having a "new" violin takes time to play it in, especially at that level where the player really merges with the instrument. I once played in an orchestra the Poème by E. Chausson and the soloist had a fresh violin. In the rehearsals it was terrible, always out of tune and very uncomfortable playing, but in the concert it was much better.
      I think you are correct with your assumption, that Eddy took one for the team here. I also think the Empress Caterina's sound fits the Mendelssohn concerto very well. I will listen to the Stern Perlman interpretation now! :)

      They have some really funny clips. Of course not everything is of my interest too, but they really deserve huge respect for the attention and joy they bring to classical music when it comes to a younger generation.

      I am personally a twosetter, but I know where you are coming from Ig. Yes they aren't technically or musically the best violinists out there, not even close to the top. Though, they are probably better than a lot of people and have a lot experience and are great players too! But the influence they have made to classical music is huge, even me, a non-musician who wasn't interested in music not to mention classical is now constantly discovering different recordings and starting to understand what musicians are commenting about and genuinely enjoying classical music.

      As a musician I love their relatability and music memes and how they introduce me to new composers. There's also something beautiful about seeing two musicians always working on improving their playing even at the relatively experienced level. They always appreciate what they cannot play and what's difficult which makes certain pieces and the composers that more admirable!

      @SimonStreuffViolinEducation  11 месяцев назад +1

      The discount offer will be up for some more as I need time to build up the course material. Some basic lessons for the bow are already up, but much more to go. I estimate this offer lasting until november. The premium package is limited in numbers though, since it also includes a 1 in 1 coaching session. There are still places available. Thank you very much for your interest, I will give my best to make this course special! Soon I have autumn holidays and will go all in on the production of the course material.

      @@amandas.6500 This course is definitely fitting for adult students and the part about the bow will be beneficial to you as a beginner for sure. The second part about vibrato could be a little too early if you have just started out, but the vibrato exercises will help you regardless I think.
