Some people will look at this and say this is too time-consuming ' I'd rather get my girts and cornmeal from the store '. Yes that is easy and convenient but you were spending more money just buying something that is already made. Using your own corn that you have grown or corn seeds that you bought from the store to get to different products out of them is really amazing.
I’ve wondered about this process for many years - thank you so much for sharing! You and your family look like really hard workers - may God bless you!
I have a very similar grinder called a Victoria and the plates didn’t run true. I found they had a Carter key holding it on instead of a round one. I believe it would help a lot if it was round. I really enjoyed the video though.
Depends on the animal. Our main Meat source is Rabbit (abot 100 growouts a year). They'll eat ALL of the green from our sweet corn. Stalk. Leaf. Husk. Every bit of it. They LOVE it. From the dried Field Corn that dries in The Field and turns brown and crispy .... they'll eat it, too - but they have to be damned near starving to choke it down. They'll eat, literally else first before they start in on that.
I saw a video on processing corn meal and he used a basic food processor and got all cornmeal but I'm sure you can stop at any time to get your grits too. Thanks for your video
just a little note I buy corn at the feed store clean deer corn they call it I buy a55 gl drum for $50 I grind it for corn meal and mix in with my chicken feed works fantastic and way cheaper and easier than growing my own
Thanks for this useful and entertaining video. Have 15 or so ears still on my plants + a new grinder that I haven't used yet. I'm a first-time gardener, hoping to expand production next spring.
This was great Jerry. I enjoyed the video. One thing which I am sure you have already thought of is to possibly get more of a heavy duty grinder that operates with electric power. But of course that would be a fairly big investment. You may prefer to do it by hand just for the fun of it, which I would certainly understand. And one other comment, you have the raw materials there to make great Mexican corn products like tortillas, tamales, etc. This involves a couple extra steps in the processing of the corn but the result is very tasty. I expect that you know all this already, but I just thought I'd mention it.
could I use this corn grinder to grind fish pellets to make them a little smaller for my bluegill to be able to get the feed into their mouth easier? Good demonstration on the corn. thx
@@Tiki71 Thank you. I dehydrated some sweet corn and ran it through a grinder. Probably going to try to make cornbread as I do not really know what else to use it for.
I'll be back. Lost a lot of palms back in December when the big freeze hit (lost power/heat for 14 hours) & have started a full time chainsaw carving biz: facebook.com/profile.php?id=100089608113401&mibextid=ZbWKwL
Good job. I live in Mexico and would love to get this set up. I haven't found a local source of Grits but there is corn galore. If I order grits from Amazon they are too expensive. Other mills I've researched are several hundred dollars. This was an excellent video. I'll keep you posted if I succeed in making meal and grits.

Everything good Jungle Jerry? Havent posted a video in a while. Merry Christmas!
Working non stop on the day job. All good. Merry Christmas!

Now I want to go out and grow some field corn!
Good to have on hand these days.

Wonderful video! How much of the waste can I feed to live stock? Cobbs, husks, etc...can it all be fed to the animals so there is no waste?
Depends on the animal.

Wow, nice corn harvest Jerry! 🌽🌽 Kate looks like she's doing good.💜
Would you soak it in lime to it to make it more nutritious before eating?
Helpful and to the point! Thank you ❤
Corn is awesome. And to think, it was genetically engineered (naturally) by the Native American.

Full of glyphosate?
How many ears of corn do you need to make a 50lb bag of ground corn?
No idea.
Depends on the corn and variety.
Most fall into a 2 to 4 ears per pound range.
Ground corn not grinded
@@soupertrooper3864 Thanks for the correction!
Thanks! I love the simplicity of putting a little love in your grits😂God bless!
You guys have sunshine😮😊
Your comfy wearing shorts😊

The right tool makes the job easy,
Are you okay??? I miss your channel 😢
I pray you and Kiwi Kate are doing well. Was just checking to make sure RUclips hadn't unsubscribed me.

Hi Tab hahaha
@@UncommonNews777 lol. Hi Doug. 👋🏻
I like your process it looks like you need a better grinder. Look for one you can hook a drill up to
I'm thinking about how to retrofit a chuck into it actually.
Not as soft as Charmin or Brand X, but it only flushes in an outhouse.
Is there a difference between field corn and eating corn?
Yes. Field corn isn't sweet.
@@Tiki71 Thank you. I dehydrated some sweet corn and ran it through a grinder. Probably going to try to make cornbread as I do not really know what else to use it for.
What if you don’t have chickens? What else can you do with the scraps?
regrind and make it finer

Really cool house man
Cool video brother
How fine do you have to grind corn for tortillas?
No idea.
Umm, that's actually a WET grain mill. Make your Masa with that one. 😊😊
💙
Nosotros los Mexicanos lo utilizamos para hacer tortillas 😂😂 quedan muy ricas.
Not for flour!! But would b OK for feed animals
Looks great! How did you manage weed control?
❤
But why waste all that energy on crap corn? Buy some Morado or Johnny red seeds or Indian glass and make some RARE and higher nutrition meal.
I'm continually amazed at folks who waste all that energy making know it all comments. You do you.
@@Tiki71 Just a suggestion considering you can buy organic yellow and white polenta for 2$ a pound.
