BASIC RIICHI MAHJONG STRATEGY (to brute force your way through a yakuza game)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 мар 2017
- This is an INCREDIBLY basic method of playing riichi mahjong, for people who are only interested, for instance, in 100% completion of a Yakuza game. Regarding FFXIV mahjong, this method doesn't really pay attention to anything anyone else is doing on the table and isn't recommended
Just focus on your hand, don't call tiles, and try to make a completed mahjong hand. Call riichi, and you can win without having to know or remember what tiles score in which combination.
There are complexities and exceptions to this strategy but it should work most of the time!
i felt confident after watching this video then i immediately proceeded to lose 5 games in a row in yakuza 0
Yeah a lot of it is RNG unfortunately
I feel you homie
Story difficulty affects minigames, and winnings earned. At least it does in Kiwami 2. I had to change the difficulty to medium after beating everything else, just to get past the Mahjong sub story. It was like night and day in difficulty lol.
@chance4585 what about Judgment?
@@Dang_Ol_Username I swear creators have some kind of sadistic fetish, if what u said is true no wonder I gettign fcked in every mahjong game
The golden rule for beginners is NEVER STEAL OTHERS' TILES and always press square button to check if you can call Riichi
What doesnt appear automatically?
@@sergioalej.9564 No, you need to press square at every turn to check if you can Riichi...
@@PalloneWafer :l ok very well i never see that
can you please explain while this is bad for begginers. I played a decent amount of mahjong im not exactly intermediate at the game yet but im pretty sure i have the basics. Is this just a getting all achivements tip or an actual mahjong tip because I cant see why that is a good strategy in actual mahjong.
Your comment helped a ton. Cheers mate.
Let me guess. Who all came here for Yakuza mahjong game completions?
Yes
Yep.
@@im_GeeOh When you just want to Tiger Drop people but you gotta Ron fools at the Mahjong table to get that platinum...
@@AridaneKunOnline Jesus h Christ thats exactly where I'm at with kiwami... I got everything else in the bag but screw mahjong... I started playing zero cause I just gave up on getting that plat....
@@taylorsimon1927 Trust me, it's not impossible but it can be frustrating the first few times and a bit time consuming but basically focus on making pairs, 3 of the same or series of 123 456 etc, another good hand is 7 pairs. Then always riichi if it's available. And since Kiwami/0 don't show the number like in 6 for a certain suit, have a picture of the tiles on your phone or laptop. Try what I said on easy tables at first and you should get the hang of it.
Also, you'll love the Disco minigame in 0 (trust me you'll hate it with passion if you're going for 100%)
I like how this was made specifically for strugglers like us.
Oh good, Yakuza 0, the only reason I need this. lol

@@PaulSA I learned how to play and still hate it, so good for you
Another tip: if another player calls riichi, it can be a good idea to stop trying to form a valid hand yourself, and instead focus on only discarding tiles that the player in riichi has already discarded, or tiles that the other two players discard after riichi is called. Ron cannot be called on those tiles (the term for this is “furiten”), which can help you avoid losing lots of points!
Came here for Yakuza 5 mahjong. So this is why the other player says "I have a lot of safe tiles" when someone declared riichi! They know they have a lot of tiles the player already discarded.
Dude, you don’t know how much I appreciate that you’re using physical Mahjong tiles to explain how to play the game. You’re actually able yo show us the basic in a controlled way rather than through the chaos of a game with a Yakuza/Like A Dragon game. There’s to much going on for someone to effectively explain how to play and give examples in a clear way, let alone for someone who doesn’t understand the game to ever actually grasp what’s going on during those matches within the games. Thank you.
"Hey yo, cheater. That's a furitan, you got no hand"
"What??"
Ahh the dreaded Substory 21 of Yakuza Kiwami 2 brought me here. Thank you experimilk.
It seems like almost every time I dscard one suit from my hand I get dealt nothing but that suit and I realize i shouldn't have discarded >
As soon as I discard a dragon tile I always seem to draw two more of the same
This whole time I was trying to win with Pon/chi/kan not knowing I was screwing myself over. Thanks for the simple but effective guide
Finally a hands on video. Ty so much. Be that from yakuza 0 or being invited to play with friends. This is THE best 101 I've seen.
Coming back to this video to really thank the man behind this tutorial. Just won my first round with a whopping 48k points. Thank you! Maybe now I’ll actually improve
Boss! HUGE THUMS UP TO YOU! Thank you so much for just clarifying something that the game failed to do. I just started this game and got so confused...Even though I already spent 5-6 hour on educating myself. Once again BIG THANK YOU
for posterity's sake:
this is BASICALLY ONLY for people who don't want to learn how to play mahjong but want to get through yakuza mahjong games. there are many more rules and an actual GREAT game with very deep strategy, but not everyone wants to learn or has time to learn. This will get you the CP you need eventually, and you can stack on top of that extra knowledge of strategy and rules. check out the mahjong reddit or google "tenhou wiki" if you want to ACTUALLY LEARN TO PLAY THE GAME
Uh how does this get a full straight
Thank you so much for this video!!! I understand what I'm doing in Yakuza and Judgement (or at least have a good basic understanding).
I was looking for a guide, and I think this is it, im gonna try it next time I play the yakuza games, thank u!!!
Dude..you’re the best. Easy and simple to understand. Wished the game explained everything better
2:55 For anyone who wants a tip, he's making a little mistake here. Instead of discarding the 6 of circles, he should've discarded the 9 of circles, because then he would've only have tiles with numbers 2-9, which meets a Yaku (winning condition) called "All Simples" (Tanyao).
This comment is so confusingly written.
Isn't he missing a 5?
@@crazezone7798 He would have 6 7 and 8
I saw that too but I guess for brute-forcing your way into the games you won't really care about getting more han from yakus xD
@@pinkberry50 not really. It's easy to understand
This hella cool man, keep it up.
I used this video before, and I'm coming back to it again for review. This is the video I recommend to anyone and everyone trying to learn it for the purposes of doing well in-game, and for beginners in general.
thank you so much, now i can platinum like every Yakuza game and Judgment too
That was really helpful. Thank you.
I doubt you'll see this but you have saved me from going insane I was so confused when I was reading the in-game tutorial .
OHH MY GOD. thank you. I finally understand the very basics.
Hey dude nice video! You can try to create another tutorial for another style of winning in Japanese Mahjong, namely 'Ron', which basically create winning hands through stealing discard tile from other players.
There is a significant rules difference for winning in the original mahjong and Japanese mahjong, and I have learnt the difference of Japanese mahjong from the Yakuza series.
Now I understand "Reach." I knew you were one away from Ron, but I didn't understand that you cannot change your hand in any way. Nice video!
I would rather face every Bloodborne boss at the same time while playing Returnal with my other hand than play Mahjong EVER again on Yakuza Kiwami 2...Thanks for your help. To hell with this game though!
Kiwami 2 is actually one of the better experiences for Mahjong in the series lmao
@@ReverendLeRoux yeah this shit is awful on judgment the ai literally gets riichi with 50-60 tiles every 5 games i would enjoy it alot more if the ai wasnt literally unfair
I replayed Yakuza Kiwami 2 11 times just so I cheat every mahjong requirements and platinum the game.
Trying to 100% kiwami 1, only need to get two diffrent winning hands and finish the climax mission. This video will help me in my achivment.
I wish I found this during my Yakuza 0 100% but helped me with number 2 super clear and explained perfectly got my challenge cleared so fast after watching this

Incredibly Useful. Thanks.
The fist thing i did after free access to the whole city was S tier the baseball game and then realized that is one of the easiest minigames

A really great introduction to my U3A session next week. Dont want to apprear the 'unknower'.

May I inform that you can do ankans (I.e. drawing four of the same tiles by urself) when reaching (or riichi-ing)

should've mentioned that riichi can screw you over at high level play, but great video!
Can somebody explain to me of winds must always be the same to count as three of a kind? Or can you have for example east, west and north?
I know this post is 5 years and I thought my Razer is broken, it's just in surround audio.
You know it was frustrating at first but when I kinda got the hang of it, it was kinda fun and when whenever I got tsumo or ron, it was the most satisfying thing everrrr
>basic 5 minute guide
>i understood nothing
This is gonna be painful, isn't it
in the however many years since i made this i think i might know a way to explain it easier but i haven't made the video yet.
twitter.com/experimilk/status/1670581994470748160?s=20
this twitter post may not be where you're confused at, but it's about how you should read your hand
this is the first thing that popped up when looking for a way to cheese the mahjong tables in yakuza 0, 6 hours into grinding even on the beginner table and i haven't won once, apparently i also need a riichi ippatsu and a full straight for completion. this is the only thing standing in the way for 100%, it's clear every hand is in favour of the AI and for some reason i just can't grasp this stupid game, the other minigames were a joke compared to this.
To brute force my way through Yakuza handled Mahjong Parlor? Hell yeah I'm ready to use this.
It took this guy under 5 minutes to teach me what 300 hours of yakuza couldnt
On my 2nd channel, I uploaded 5 Mahjong videos from Yakuza 0. I got the Full Straight, Haneman and Mangan. The 1st video was me not knowing what I was doing cos I was using Chi’s and Pon’s a few times.
Nice guide but what am I supposed to do if I simply don't get any pieces that connect to each other? e.g. I have mosty dots and keep drawing bamboos, or the other way around... Not to mention the AI often ends the round before I can do much. Mahjong in Yakuza 0 is so obviously rigged in favour of the IA, it's ridiculous.
I'm trying to legit learn this game because it seems like a fun way to kill some time in these games, but it's nice to have this strategy to fall back on for when I just want completion points
What about richie ippatsu can you explain to me what I need to have that as well?
Amazing thanks!
Thanks dude!
im late but you saved me lol thank you for this video
nice and easy to understand.
My left ear enjoyed this video. Right ear didn't have the same experience.
Hey struggling Yakuza player. The game difficulty also influences minigames, and money earned in Mahjong. So if you just can't finish the completion list, complete the story on hard *then* drop it down to medium or whatever to finish the Mahjong list.
thank you for this. i havnt 100% any games because i cant win at the mahjong games
Thanks I won my 1st Mah-jong thanks to you ❤
This is literally how I’ve been playing with family members! Ignore all the complex point calculations, just get 14 tiles that meet the requirements and I’m good
Finally figured out what I was doing wrong thanks to this video. :) Got the entire completion in Kiwami.
I'm jealous... I'm stuck with mahjong, shogi, and baccarat... I love yakuza but goddamn
I kept trying to make a hand out of the tiles I was throwing out of my hand. Whoopsie.
my strategy is to do a closed hand (riichi or tsumo) and do all simples, since its an easy hand most of the time i will win the round first, and if my opponents don’t win any time,i will just win it all,if my opponent does win one time with a hand that is worth a good amount of poits then i will just try to do a hand that gives enough points to have more points then him.
Can someone explain the pon and chi thing and how you can win with them
So PON is the process of calling a tile when discarded to add to a pair of your own to make a set of 3. You basically treat that tile as your "drawn tile". You expose that part of your hand to everyone, and discard a tile like normal.
CHI is when the player TO YOUR LEFT ONLY discards a card that can make a run of three. The process is the same as PON.
The reason why it's discouraged is that when you are trying to make your mahjong hand of 4 sequences and a pair, you need at least one yaku, or scoring combination. Many scoring combinations require you not to call chi or pon, so if you do it recklessly you can get stuck, unable to win.
So if you want to us PON, try to use it on things like the east wind, or the red, green, or white dragons!
Thank you!!
I WAS CALLED OUT IN THE FIRST 10 SECONDS OF THE VIDEO
How you place a bet on Mahjong? I mean I see the 144 tiles occupying all the table but I can't figure out how they bet on it or where to place a bet.
I mean in Poker you place your bet on the table but in Mahjong...I dunno.
Wdym
it's not a betting game
I was thinking shiiiitt the graphics are awesome; then realised it was the dude irl
Yea I understand none of this but if I hit square and trade enough tiles ill get it eventually
Hi dude, i have one question, idk why the last one i needed when i called Riichi didnt take it.. why? i needed a 6 to make a "Stair" cus i had 4 and 5. So when i called Riichi 3 opponents DROPPED it and nothing happened!! I can't understand how sometimes it looks simple but now that i had the chance it didn't work
my full hand was (3;3 CHARACTER, 4,5 CHARACTER, 3,4,5 BAMBOO, 6,7,8 BAMBOO, 7,8,9 DOTS. And then called Riichi. Can anyone tell me which was the last one i needed? I thouhgt it was 6 Character but nope
If anyone has psn i will send the Screenshot of my hand...
Very strange... When you call Riichi a small window opens showing which tiles you need and how many of them are still available.
You could go out with 6 or 2 and you had a "no points hand" as well giving you additional points.
I know this is old, but the reason why you couldn't take those tiles is because you were in Furiten, which is a state in which you are unable to win by calling Ron.
Furiten is triggered when the winning tile you need is in YOUR discard pile, thus you are only able to win by Tsumo.
For example, you need a 4 or 6 of bamboos to win, but you have a 4-bamboo in your discard pile. You will be unable to Ron AT ALL, even on the 6-bamboo.
In order to get rid of the Furiten state, you must change up your hand so that you are no longer waiting on a tile you have already discarded. Of course, this is impossible to do while you have called Riichi, so you will be unable to call Ron until the end of the round.
In short, AVOID WAITING ON TILES THAT YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY DISCARDED.
If you're still confused, feel free to ask me anything and I will try to answer.
Theres been so many times where i called pon a few times and had 4 sequences and just need my last pair, but i pull the last pair and nothing happens!
Yeah, that happened to me too when I was starting out. The reason is that in japanese mahjong a winning hand requires a legality or "yaku" that serves as a kind of score multiplier. "riichi" is one of them.
To win you need to secure two things. 1) Having the three sets and a pair, as you said, and 2) you have to meet a winning condition of one Yaku.. If your hand doesn't qualify for a corresponding Yaku, your hand is worthless even if you successfully formed three sets and a pair. Remember, that you will have significantly less possible Yaku conditions, if you open up your hand (by calling Chi, Pon etc.) It's way smarter to not steal other's discards. Unless you already have two of the same dragon tiles or two of the same seat/prevailing wind tiles, because having three of those is already a Yaku. Then you only have to form the remaining 2 sets and the pair.
Hello, future Mahjong addicts. I want to help you get through Mahjong, so feel free to ask me anything in the replies and I will try to answer.
I had completed all mahjong required in Yakuza Kiwami. But I had much difficult to do it. In Brazil we didn't learn how to play the Mahjong. So I needed to will surching info in the internet about it.
seria legal se Mahjong fosse popular aqui no Brasil, mas com esse tanto de regras os Brasileiros passariam longe do jogo.
Link to buy this set?
These are 28mm Amos tiles, I think these days they sell them under Amos masters.
Why not go for all simples? its a rememberable yaku that has no honor or terminal (1 & 9) Tiles. Just saying because I am advanced
I'm trying to 100% Yakuza Kiwami 2 right now but really the only major obstacle standing in my way is that I have to go out with ron or tsumo a total of 30 TIMES (!!!) in mahjong as well as winning all the tournaments!!
Nope. I stopped playing some time ago
Thx for the tutorial. the characters on the tiles are NOT Japanese but Chinese. "kanji in Japanese literally means "Han characters". ... It is spelled in Japanese using the same characters as traditional Chinese"
Maybe I'm just dumb but I've sat and watched like 6 of these and still don't understand
thx now i go to play :D
Thank you
So basically rule of thumb is easiest to go for sequences (123 456 or 234 etc) which is more likely/easier than finding Triples, in a concealed hand
Also he's not really right about not caring about what others do as you might need to check how many pieces of the one you want are left, depending on what they discarded
Eg you are looking to finish with a pair dragon but there might be 2 or 3 out already of that one (even with 2 discarded there's the chance last one is in the Kan wall)
Or you wanted to make that 234 234 same suit or same sequence 3 suits, looking for the last piece.
Sometimes the hand starts with trips and sequence at the same time with a mess of honors, that's really bad cos it takes forever to wait for full sequences or it's hit or miss what you discard towards trips
In yakuza, apparently in the actual money tables, not ranked, they even just keep holding out not discarding the one you want, i thought ranked was hard at first, but somehow the ai players give you a bit more room to work on and don't spam riichi as much as the Money table ones
Sometimes i get small wins when it's draw without any hand, but i and some ais got pongs and kan/kongs
The first lesson is making a hand. Once you're OK at doing that confidently, you then have space in your mental stack for push/fold judgment and defensive play
One step at a time 😀
Will this help with ranked matches?
The only advice that this video can give you that helps you with ranked matches is to not open your hand without an express reason to do so. If you don't know your scoring hands, you might put yourself in a state where it's impossible to win and easier to deal into somebody else's hand
Today I found out that seven pairs is an acceptable hand in Mahjong, I also got a Tsumo with it. What a day. Also, you can't call Riichi when you steal tiles, right?
Correct
*what about Kons? (Kangs?) you didn't say anything about that? Even Concealed Kans?*
Late response but I'm pretty sure this is meant for people who are too lazy to actually learn Mahjong.
I only came here because there is yakuza in the title
After 11 hours of playing mahjong and understanding shit, i almost gave up until i saw this video, i remained calm. Counted the tiles of my opponents and i scored a full straight!
I usually never like a video on youtube but you’re the first person i’m gonna like
Why can't you use pon/chi?
Having an exposed meld means you can't riichi

You drew a tile before discarding one. In Yakuza 0 (and I'm assuming in real life) you have to discard before drawing.
Gwylggi Boss Actually I was wrong. I tried it again after learning a bit more about the game and realized I had misunderstood the sequence. Thanks for your comment.
Thanks.

You're going to need a little bit more than this video to be able to match up against real players. In addition to this strategy, you'll need to know situations where you can call tiles. From there you can really start to learn the actual game
Btw the numbers are in chinese not Japanese. There’s a difference. The five in traditional Chinese has a 亻next to it while Japanese doesn’t.
