  • Our 2021 UK road trip carries on and this visit was to the Crich Tramway Village in the Derby area. It sits within the Peak District National Park. So if you visit the Peak District and looking for things to do in the Peak District? Day out in the Peak District? Then this is a recommended Peak District location to spend a day.
Take a look at our other travel content at: ‪@OceanHops‬
At this Peak District attraction, you can ride different trams as they have several running each day including old Blackpool trams and European trams. There is also an exhibition hall showcasing the history of trams and tramways from the 1800s to the 60s with many exhibits to showcase the era. You can also stroll through the tram sheds where the trams are maintained and restored to the their former glory. The Village also includes historic buildings that have been taken down and rebuilt brick by brick including a pub, town hall and several shops with retro items on display. There's also a playground for the kids and a park with a bandstand. An enjoyable day out in the Peak District!
We are at Crich tramway museum.

You can get off if you want to do the Woodland Walk and then we carry on to Victoria Park,
the play area and then the terminus. The tram you're riding on comes from Leeds, built 1925. Quite modern for its day because it had air brakes fitted to it - that's why you can hear the compressor ticking over now.
They needed it on the hilly routes. Prior to this trams were open top as well so that was different.
It ended up in Leeds as a store tram who just kept spare parts in it. We acquired it back in 1959 when Leeds Trams closed, brought it here and eventually through one of our many funnels that we've got, we used money to restore it back to its original 1920s condition.
the Sherwood Foresters War Memorial 'The hill may have been part of the beacon chain used in 1588 to warn of the approaching Spanish armada.'
    Sheffield's last tram.

'This bridge was erected by members of the Tramway Museum Society assisted by a manpower services commission workforce. The ironwork was cast in 1844 and installed at the Bowes-Lyon estate Stagenhow Park, Ware, Hertfordshire who donated it to the museum in 1971.
There's a bandstand in the park and the memorial on top of the hill.
So the trams only go one way from the end down there in the little town set-up and they just travel one way up the track
take a woodland walk which comes out over here by the children's park.
Well worth a visit though - enjoyed it. You can go on the trams as often as you like and again it's £19.50, I think, for entry. But that gives you a a year's pass so you can come back as often as you like. So who knows - we may be back.
