Great video! After you've highlighted a file instead of doing command + O you can do command + ⬇️ to open the file. Then your fingers never leave the arrow buttons.
Thanks Gary! I'm reminded of an early demonstration of (what was then) OS X given by Steve Jobs (maybe 2001). He referred to the level of "craftsmanship" that went into it. It's smarter than most of us realize.
Does Finder have a way to have a viewer off to the right like File Explorer in Windows does? I want to start using my iMac more, that I bought 6 months ago, but I use File Folder a lot on my Windows machine, so this is the only thing holding me back, because File Explorer is way more straight forward, and has a viewer to the side, which makes it really nice to see what is in all your files, instead of having to click on every file to open it, to see what's in it.
@@SummaGirl1347 Thank you so much! Column View seems to be what I am looking for, but Windows File Explorer does have a toggle button to switch the Preview Pane between a List Detail View or a Thumbnail view of the folders file, which all stays off to the right, Apple is letting me Preview one file at a time off to the right, then I click Icon, and it shows me everything in that folder as an icon, but it uses the whole screen, and the column view goes away, but I'll play around with it, even what I've just discovered now because of you, is enough to get what I was looking for, I want to fully transition my day to day usage over to Apple, thank you again, Mac Most videos are very good, he talks fast and throws a lot of information out quick, and I like that. lol.
How in the world I keep learning a lot from Gary after 14 years of MAC?! How to open a new finder windows in the same folder? I mean, how to duplicate the finder window?
When looking for a file, I always know something about its location. Go to folder will get me close, or right there depending on what it is I remember, faster than any other method. Scanning windows is a huge waste of time and often distracts me from the original plan. Go to folder is like a live script. Superfind.
It would be great to see a video on sharing files between Mac and Windows computers on a local LAN. I use Command K to access shares on my Windows computer. I also use an app called LocalSend on both machines to share files as well.
@@JavisoGaming But if you are using iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc, then there's never a need to do that. You'd just see all of your files on all of your devices. No need to keep track of where something is and worry about when you have duplicates and keeping the right one. I mean you can still use a LAN for file sharing today if you want, I'm just saying there is a better way.
Hey, the first time I'm being accused of being AI! How do you explain that I've been doing it since 2007 though? Not sure what you were experiencing with choppiness or speed. Maybe a connection issue? I do use AI audio filters to take out the reverb and background noise as I don't want to "live" in a sound booth all day while I work.
Who would know the amount of functionalities hidden behind such a simple box? Amazing! Thanks 🙏

This is actually a very in-depth & advance tutorial
Thanks for sharing
Oh man ... all these years and I never knew this shortcut. Thank you, Gary. This is just so enlightening!! 🙇♂
Thank you Gary for these shortcuts to Folders!
I was aware of the Go To Folder, but never really used it. I will definitely be using it going forward and save a lot of time! Thanks!!
It's amazing how in-depth you go into MacOS, exploring every nook and cranny. Love it! Thanks for the video!
Thanks very much, Gary, for this informative video! Essential knowledge for Finder users.

🙋♂️THANKS GARY 🤗 for useful information💚💚💚

You need to switch to a different finder view. ruclips.net/video/ZAbDPhM4_o0/видео.htmlsi=4KPBT5WqYsAUq1eH
In the View menu, choose Show Preview.
@@SummaGirl1347 Ok, thank you, I'll check it out.

A very useful and informative video tutorial today! Thank you, Gary! 👏🏻❤️
Very useful. I did not know you could purposely mistype or use initials and still end with a valid search. The click position is pretty cool, too.
Thanks Gary. I was hoping this would fix my broken Mac Search. I'm on 14.6.1 and it still doesn't work and hasn't for a year or so.
So then it sounds like something else is going on. Call Apple Support and get to the bottom of it.

So the same folder in a second window? Not sure why you would want to do that. What's your use case?

Outside of business settings with IT departments, I would think most people just use cloud services for that today.
@@macmost To transfer files back and forth on my local LAN at home? I beg to differ.

Gary's video/audio is Max Headroom-ish. Very choppy. Speech will speed up then slow. AI generated?
