    Hey Johnny thanks for this info! We got a new Pit Boss table top griddle to kinda learn on and this info is just what we need! That's cool you worked at Bob Evans! My grandfather is from gallipolis, we used to go back for Christmas every year to visit my Great Grandpa until he passed. I haven't been down for probably 20 years but have some found memories.

    Great advice! Glad you aren't an oil/seasoning snob. Too many of them turn people away from griddling at the start. My favorite griddle is whichever one I'm cooking on ☺ Love the hat!

      So glad you noticed the hat Garrett this is my favorite article of clothing by far lol! Ya probably my bigggest pet peeve is being a snob about something and then for people to do it about oil just blows my mind. They can be so condescending to knew griddle owners and like you said it turns people away. That drive me nuts. Merry Christmas brother.

      @@JohnnyBrunet I'd proudly wear that hat as well haha yeah people get a little too passionate about their oil and seasoning sometimes. I've cooked with cheap oil and expensive oil and on good seasoning and less than ideal seasoning and loved the results each time 😅 it's a learning process but at least the mistakes can be tasty as people find what works best for them.     I'm really enjoying this channel Johnny. My new griddle was delivered today and I've already watched many channels and videos in anticipation of the learning curve. You have some of the best advice and I like the humor. I hope your channel really takes off. You are right about the importance of temperature and having a IR thermometer. Just during the seasoning stage I learned so much about the thermals of my Blackstone 4 burner. Wind (just a light breeze) was a factor, low setting is a must and I now appreciate having a gradient across the griddle by turning off some burners. Position of the food is the temperature knob!

    Great video. I got a griddle a few months ago and I love it. The one issue I have is that I have a hard time keeping the temp low enough. Even running on the lowest setting it gets to around 350. (I live in Colorado and not sure if the high elevation is a factor.)Any tips for reducing the heat output a little? Maybe an additional regulator?

      So most of them run a little hot in my opinion. My recommendation is turning off a few burners like I mentioned. Maybe start by turning off the outside 2. Also keep an eye on the temp and put your food down right when it gets where you want. Don walk away for 15 minutes while it warms up then when you get back it's too high. I check it after about 7 minutes and it's usually to 375. I also have a video on this which I'll link.

    Damn. Now I wished I got a 4 burner. I did my first cook today and the temp was an issue. I’m still waiting for my thermometer and accessories from Amazon. Is Steve still eating his granola bars?

    I'm a f'n rookie. I worked in fast food for a few years, not quite the same. This channel has worked me through my idiocy and convinced me to get a flat top. I'm currently living in a temporary situation (RV) where a flat top/griddle is absolutely optimal.
    I didn't have a griddle before I sold my house. Started watching this channel and now I have 2.

      Very versatile, I almost didn't find out about griddles before I bought something for my mini-camper. Griddle can do all three meals, and do a great job. I follow JB's advice. The infrared thermometer was an essential add.

    Thanks for the clear and concise video. Very helpful. I'm hoping you can help me with a problem with a new Captiva Designs Tabletop 3 burner griddle I just bought. I'm frustrated with it so far. It's too hot, even on low it's over 500 degrees. At high it's over 600. These temps are too hot. I suppose I can try turning off the 2 outside burners to see if that helps. Even the nobs have a pretty narrow range for control, but the bottom line is I can't get temps low enough. Thoughts? Thanks much and I really like your channel.

      Hey Warren thanks for watching. So I would recommended putting your food down right when it gets to the temp you want. Don't walk away for 10 or 15 min and let it get to 500. If you're making bacon and potatoes breakfast, the. Put those down right when it hits 375, however long that takes after turning it in.
      The food on the griddle should help to regulate the temperature and keep it down. If you're doing some like eggs at the end the. You just need to shut a burner or two off and cook on the residual heat.
      You could try only turning on the middle but we which would give you one really hot spot down the center. I might consider doing the opposite. Put the two outside ones on low and leave the middle off. This might transfer the heat more evenly and the middle will be cooler but still probably a usable temp like 350. I hope that helps my friend.

    Thanks for sharing man. Nothing beats experience though and I’m glad you’re giving some common sense tips to follow. Just want to add for the very new, safety is important and that griddle WILL burn you, so do your homework and get what you need to be safe.

      That's a very good point. There's no open flame like a grill so it's easy to forget that the flat top is really hot! Thanks for sharing.

    Hey Johnny! Cincinnati local here (appreciate the Rheingheist IPA showcases). I got a new Blackstone griddle and I've been following your videos religiously!
    With rain or snow do you ever move your griddle inside to shield it from the elements? What's the best way to prevent rust in high humidity environments like Ohio

      Hey! Thanks for watching the vids I'm glad they are helpful. I just had some Truth last night. So I have a hard cover and it does the truck during bad weather but ai have had a little water get under it during a real bad storm.
      I wouls move it inside during the winter if I could but my wife and I are in a 900 SQ ft condo so I got nowhere to put it. I don't even have a garage lol
      s for the rust just make sure you put a thin coat of oil on after your done cleaning. That will help protect it. You don't burn that coat off. Just clean it, thin coat of oil, then cover it and your good to go. Thanks again for watching, congratulations on the new griddle.

    I have a flir one thermal camera that attaches to my iPhone. I use it for HVAC work, but it’s also PERFECT for use with the griddle as I can actually see the temperature and where the hot spots are.

    Can you wait a day or so before cleaning your griddle? You really don't want to be cleaning while your guests are enjoying the food. If you wait is the process the same.

      Hey Robert. I don't know if it recommended but I do it all the time. I'll give it a quick scrape down then a once over with a paper towel and I'll start eating. Again, I'm not sure if it's "best practice" but it works for me.

      I leave mine out all winter like ng but I still cook on it regularly. If you're concerned you can always just pull the top off of it and bring it inside.

    Thanks for the videos. I am retired, and I am currently living full time in my RV, and spend my summers in Quebec and the winters in Arizona. I jut bought and last night seasoned my first cast iron griddle that just goes over 2 of my indoor stove burners. It made a great breakfast this morning, with no sticking eggs and fantastic bacon and homemade hash browns with onions.
    I have a brick oven for pizza and bread, so I fortunately already had an IR gun, which does seem to be a must have. I just priced a 4 burner Blackstone griddle on Amazon and was pleasantly surprised that it was not as much as expected - around $475 US. I see on the Canadian Amazon website it is double that, which is the usual rip off that Canadians are used to. If I buy one I will buy it in the US and bring it home.

    Good advice as usual Johnny. My biggest issue was that I work out of town alot and no matter what I did, I would come home to rust. I finally solved that by storing thr griddle top in the house, wrapped in a heavy milk plastic garbage bag. Now, it's always ready to go!

      Oh that's a good idea I used to take mine into the house during the winter but then I started using it so much that I didn't have time. But that's def a good way to keep it from rusting.

    Its all about the heat. Once you figure out your hot & cold spots, it will all come. Only way to learn is to git right in it start cookin! Its really no different than cooking in a frying pan on your stove.
