I like the little dig at Microcenter - great pricing, but they won't ship it to you, and the dopiest thing of all is the baffling lack of a store in Silicon Valley!
Micro Center had a Silicon Valley store at one time. It closed in 2012 when they couldn't agree on an extension of their lease; the landlord wanted over 2X what they had been paying. Now that Fry's is gone it may be time for Micro Center to consider opening a new Silicon Valley store, but they'll have to find a real estate deal that isn't prohibitively expensive. Maybe they could open in one of the empty Fry's locations!

@@a_spire Pretty damned unlikely at this point. This isn't the 1990's anymore where a new CPU is 50% faster than last year's. My 3970x is only about 5x faster than the 3700k from 2012 it replaced, and that took 9 years (and 5x more money just for the CPU). Welcome to the death of Moore's Law and the limits of economics (and to a lesser degree of physics). I'm pretty sure that even if 2nm is a thing in 2032 even $4k (a current 3990x price) won't get me something even 4x faster than a 3970x. Not too hyped about DDR5 either. Memory speed in reality hasn't changed much since DDR1 days. Double clock rates, but double timings as well = same 8-12ns it's always been since 2001, just less voltage/power use and bigger modules (but no regular consumer actually needs TB's of ram, I struggle to max 32GB even when multitasking). Hell I may never need to upgrade again, it really depends if whatever is available in the 2030's is worth spending the cash. If it's just 2x performance but costs $10k for a CPU then no. Also a no if it's about the same price but the 20% performace gains can only be seen with benchmarks and not felt.

Ryzen will have to jump in performance to be worth a jump in price. This move by Intel will prove a good cap on AMD's price of kept up for this and next gen (and preferably beyond).
Hi GN, Awesome video as usual. I just want to reaffirm what you're saying about intel prices. I've been a PC Gaming Enthusiast for 30 years. I used to work at computer sales store. My first computers in the 90's were all intel(my father got them through his work, HP's), then in late high school and university I bought AMD's for a few years and once I started working I've bought nothing but Intel's ever since. I am big Intel fan, I wouldn't say fanboi but definitely a big fan. Intel has served me very well over the years, rock solid stable machines that I can overclock for a fairly significant performance boost. Intel was notorious for never dropping prices on last gen CPU's, it was kind of crazy but you would save almost nothing by trying to go with one or two generation old hardware. Until about the launch of 10th gen or immediately prior to the release of 10th gen Intel dropped the price of 9th gen a large amount. I just happened to buy a 9900K 2-3 weeks prior to the big drop. I didn't worry about it when I bought it because intel never dropped their prices. But to my shock and dismay in canada the 9900K dropped >$100 a couple weeks after I bought one to upgrade my 9600K. Luckily it was within newegg's price guarantee so I got the difference back on a gift card. I wasn't happy with the motherboard(ASUS Prime Z390-A) I had at the time so ~6 months later I decided to upgrade to an ASUS Maximus XII Apex and 10900KF. One of my passions in life overclocking so the Prime Z390 just didn't satisfy me. I am extremely happy with the Maximus Apex and 10900KF they are both overclocking beasts! I really need to setup a full custom watercooling loop because the CPU gets very hot, it wants to go faster but I need better cooling. It was so well known in the industry that Intel never drops prices on old stock that even PC buying guides recommended you buy the most recent gen because you won't save anything in the end by trying to buy one or two gen old CPU. I don't go on reddit very much but whatever heavily upvoted post you mentioned that says intel does drop it prices is just a bunch of garbage. Maybe in some parts of the world old CPU's got price cuts but for north america intel almost never made any significant price drops as new product lines were released. I know most of the benchmarks show the 11900K performing under the 10900K, I think it maybe be a different story when considering below ambient cooling. So I'm actually planning on getting 11900K, with the Maximus XIII Apex. Although maybe I'll wait and see what 12 gen turns out to be. Excellent video. Thank you for all your hard work GamerNexus.
Well we just have to hope that Intel start producing those stickers! They allready have done good job advertising AMD, so this would be the next step... ;)
Speaking of said micro center pricing, they are jacking the prices up for quite a lot of things. The i5 10400(?) is now cheaper on Amazon then it is at micro center
doesn't really matter to me since the price I'll be paying for a new GPU today is the same price I used to pay for a GPU + a CPU + Mobo + RAM + HDDs + Case + Fans. I'll wait for the whole market to crash before I buy a new rig is what I'm saying, that or just take up fishing irl.
Got a 10900k at launch had a few issues wrangling in the heat but now that's sorted have been super happy with it. 5.3 4core 5.2 8core 5.1 allcore @ 65*c after 2 days of prime 95 :)
In the U.S. at Micro Center and other stores you can buy a 10900k for under $400. Right now, you can't even find a 5900x on a store shelf, let alone on eBay for less than around $800. In real world talk, AMD has no true obtainable competitor to the 10900k for the average PC builder. The 10900k is absolutely still the gaming king not just in performance, but in price as well.
Only thing to keep in mind is pricing that includes MBs...apart from that I'm recommending 10 series to anyone who is looking at the moment... Especially if they don't OC and are ok with a non K and non Z series MB... 11 series kind of makes sense with the fact there are no GPUs so the Xe graphics is sorta ok to get you by until market is back on track.... 🤞🏻

AMD isn't going to gain any market share however. A large chunk of their customers that kept them around were price over performance customers (myself included). Now that AMD has jacked up all their prices prior to this video from Steve my upgrade wishlist featured an Intel 10th gen. So as AMD price go up they chase away all their long time budget conscious customers and make no noticeable gains in user base market share since those users will now go over to Intel. It's the one thing Dr. Su shouldn't have done, seek short term cash in the market over long term gains. Yay, your stock value is going to go up, but it won't ever reach a price point like that of Intel with your marginal user install base.
paid 280€ in november and paried with my 3080 tuf, oced at 4733Mhz with bclk and is destroying everything i play like cyberpunk 2077 , warzone and metro exodus.
My upgrade wish list has a 10th gen Intel i7. Currently on 1st gen Ryzen. I go where the price per performance takes me so like Steve said, it's a no brainer to go Intel at the moment. AND I would guess all the people who kept AMD in the game prior to their new success were mostly due to price over performance, so now that AMD is trying to be the new Intel and jack up all their prices, I don't see them making up any market share as they are to loose all their traditional budget customers. If they really wanted to grow their share in the market they would've stuck to their prices instead of jacking them up.
I'm surprised, but glad, to recommend last-gen Intel parts for super-budget builds while AMD parts find their position in high-end stuff. It's an interesting twist.
Super-budget builds? The 10900k is still near the top of the pack for gaming (and better than 5800x for productivity), and it's around $400, with the 10850k being essentially the same thing for even less. That's not even considering the 10700k. These are not "super-budget" options. They're just great general options, period.
@@channelthechannel Arguably true, but Intel's lower-end stuff has been even more compelling for an even longer time. With their midrange following that trend too (Hello, 10400), that's what I was trying to express.
I got my 10850K for $349.99 at Microcenter, and at one point I believe it was as low as $329.99. Great value for gaming and light-medium productivity loads. Throw a light OC on it and you're pretty near 10900K performance is most use cases. Loving it. Runs a little hot, but if you tune the voltages a bit, it's very manageable.
AMD is milking us to build their war chest to prepare for the inevitable return of Intel, things are about to get a lot more exciting in the next few years
@@arkdesign9517 lol so either you are saying that when 6 cores weren't affordable to the midrange consumer cpu market AMD has the audacity to break the norms and sell CPUs competing to intel with more cores (particularly the first release of Zen CPUs) a good thing or you are saying about the 5600X being 50 dollars higher than a 3rd gen Zen CPU equivalent being a bad thing
Alder Lake may indeed herald the return of leapfrogging technology. Pricing will have to be reasonable, or your competitor will outsell you. Performance will have to be reasonable, or your competitor will outsell you. The consumer wins.

@@Code7Unltd That's true no doubt, but AMD can't undercut intel so hard all the time. Part of this is due to stock shortages and increased prices due to this global shortages of materials and production. 3700X was normally 300+

I like the little dig at Microcenter - great pricing, but they won't ship it to you, and the dopiest thing of all is the baffling lack of a store in Silicon Valley!
Or here in Portland. In intel's hometown.

Welcome to the Threadripper club! I'm rocking a 3960X, 2950X, and 1920X as well. With the 5 GHz silicon elephant in the room don't see any point to upgrading for the next 10 years as well.

-Threadrippers s*ck- .
@@MichaelPohoreski pretty bad investment if you think about the depreciation...

And thus the cycle continues, lets just hope Intel cooks up something good before we start seeing Ryzens jump in price
And then, Intel makes something good only for it to jump in price. Friggin' scalpers and miners, man.
How about stickers with "AMD Inside"? We need those now!🤣

Huge shift in the market. Big props to AMD
