  • Mechanical advantage is the ratio of load to the effort in the simple machine. It is represented by the formula MA = Load/Effort
It is a ration of two forces. So it does not have unit and is expressed in number. This number indicates how many times a load can be raised by the applied effort. Mechanical advantage less than 1 indicates the mechanical disadvantage. It means how many times the effort is needed to raise the less amount of load.

If we write MA of an machine is 4% in exam do we lose mark?

MA is expressed in number not in %. MA 4 means we can raise a load 4 times greater than the effort but not 4%. It becomes 400%. So, don't express in %.
