The Best SoundFont Ever

- This is the best SoundFont I have ever heard. You only need an SF2 file, not any other things. SoundFonts like these can also be used in composition programs like FL Studio.

SGM V2.01, which is the SoundFont used: www.mediafire.c...
7-Zip, which you need in order to extract the contents from the 7z archive: www.7-zip.org/
SynthFont: www.synthfont.c...
If you don't like SynthFont, which has since the making of this video become trialware, then you can try VirtualMIDISynth instead: coolsoft.alterv...
The MIDI used in the video, as requested: www.mediafire.c...
Me in 2013: Awesome, time to play some MIDIs with this soundfont
Me in 2022: Ah, the memories. also Toby Fox
I'm not a music composer or professional, but I do have a need for soundfonts when playing old DOS games, and this one sounds absolutely scrumptious in Wing Commander Privateer. Thank you very much for providing it. :)
bro this soundfont is used in undertale
Are u sure?
It’s also used for Baldi’s basics
Baldi's basics uses the Microsoft GS Wavetable synth actually
You can find a video with MIDI's that sound exactly like the audio in game
Maybe baldi's basics plus uses this soundfont idk@@SPW2008
@@SPW2008the actual gm used but not the sgm
@@VjRoboZ yup! SGM is one of the soundfonts used for Undertale!
This sound font is not bad. Other good fonts are: FluidR3_GM, Timbres of Heaven, Arachno, GMR Basico
Arachno, 100 MB and it sounds realistic.
ToH, 300 MB, a little large file, covers a lot of instruments for XG.
Generaluser GS, 30 MB, for light users.
Arachno soundfont is pretty darned good and smaller than SGM V2. But When using that two with Soundfont-MIDIplayer-Android, Arachno buffers a lot while SGM Running so nice!!!
Arachno is very good for synth and some orchestra, but my Favorite SoundFont is "TrianGM." Honestly it is amazing.
The MIDI You Played Sounds Like Mother 3 Music, But It Sounds Even More Like Mother 3 Music With The Soundfont You Applied To It
It does actually sound like M3 music, heres to awesome music, fellow mother fan!
@@detectiveblutomindpretzel6292 Ayyyyyy Thank You So Much
It maybe is the m3 soundfont. I downloaded the soundfont and looked at it and also m3's soundfont and both have an instrument called Organ 3... they _almost_ sound the same.
This video changed my life. Thanks to you I discover the Synthfont program that I use everyday from years ago.
this sound font is literally perfect I'm telling you
Ratings have been disabled for this video.
That says it all, folks. Hahahaha.
Forgot about ratings
Ratings have been disabled forever.
You don't need SynthFont. You need a FREE program called "Coolsoft Virtual MIDIsynth". maybe i misspelled it incorrectly, but this is a free program.
yeah like that and problem solved.
The best thing about SynthFont is the choice of SoundFont for each MIDI track.
Thanks. Now shit MIDI sounds more like Semi shit MIDI
yes!

Maybe it can finally sound like a good Midi.
Oh man, this sounds pretty realistic! Also sounds like something from Wario Land: Shake It...
Nice comparison. And nice avatar, too.
***** Please see what I wrote to coolkid6087 (it's a linked comment): The Best SoundFont Ever
Sound's The Same As It.
it reminds me of sonic adventure
This soundfont is spectacular. I use this soundfont for my midi files! However, I personally feel like the bass samples (slap bass, slap bass 2, fingered bass, picked bass etc.) are pretty quiet.
SGM is an awesome Soundfont series. Every update so far is great. The latest version is possibly the best (though the Overdriven Guitar could use a little more work in the mid range and the basses could be a bit louder).
Toby fox intensifies
You here???
@@rotamata_xp yes
@@AlexBamZ cool
Fantastic soundfont especially for orchestral music!
@Quartrez The reason the split track sounds more realistic is because it uses the second track to help with pitch bends, tremolo, and other effects that a single track can't do, or doesn't do very well. Some sequencers, like Guitar Pro, do it this way to give a more realistic effect.
The best soundfont that I found is orpheous soundfont and it sounds realistic it's worth to check out.
And that, my friends, is how undertale was born
Good old SGM, it's pretty much my jack-of-all-trades soundfont. For pure sample quality, Crisis GM can't be beat, but it has some volume imbalances and a few funky instruments (like the electric guitars)
I myself have combined SGM and Crisis GM into my own personal "uber MIDI config", but it's not an actual sf2 file.
Also I personally find XMPlay much easier to use than SynthFont and is what I use for soundfont-enabled MIDIs.
funfact: Toby Fox used this soundfont for some Undertale songs
Yep
@@MalfunctionWhocares dude trust me
You're absolutely right, in comparrison fluid sounds a bit dry and artificial and in this day and age, the size of the soundfont is hardly an issue so SGM is definitely the way to go!
sgm really one of the best if not the best soundfont.
@anyeos Wasn't saying MIDI was the sound of the song. MIDI is only a communications device. I've been working with MIDI since about 2004, believe me, I know what it is by now. lol I was referring to .MID files which are only really good for transferring notes between computers. And to get high quality MIDI synthesis you usually need to spend a decent amount of money or at least pirate the things that are worth a decent amount of money.
The thing is, the song in this video is the only song I can find that sounds good with this soundfont.
Please consider also this project made only with soundfonts
Emulating warm acoustic instrumental jazz atmospheres in FL Studio (with best sax and piano sf2)
Man i miss that function where they let you link something with words, especially since i never got to use it
I think Airfont 380 is a gem among the soundfont world. No one ever brings it up but it's amazing for jazz
I've been using this forever, and found your video because I need the file while I'm away from home. Another way to use this sound font is with Coolsoft VirtualMIDISynth. it simply replaces windows default midi sounds with this and lets it run on just about any program... best part... it's freeware
Timbres Of Heaven is the best sf. Listen:ruclips.net/video/tnPx53fHZE8/видео.html
it's sound great , this is exactly what i was looking for.
just so you guys know: this archive does NOT extract with winrar. use 7-zip or you will get an unknown method error.
Tethered it to "Synthfont Midi plugin" for Winamp and uninstalled the Nullsoft one. Now all midi files sound better than ever AND it supports digital sound processors (DSP plugins) and output modes (so I CAN rip to mp3's if I wanted). Awesome stuff. Farewell Microsoft SoftSynth!
cool!!!!
How!?!
I installed cool virtualMIDI, replacing MS GS BS... can I map a soundfont to it?
tips on tethering welcome
jonnyhotchkiss
1. Download SGM-V2.01 and extract it somewhere.
2. Download the "Snythfont Midi Plugin" for Winamp which is found here:
www.synthfont.com/Downloads.html
(Look for in_aSyFon)
2. Delete in_midi.dll in the Winamp plugins directory as it will cause midi files to play through it instead of Synthfont.
3. Install Synthfont and open Winamp. You will be immediately asked to select a soundfont in which case you will select "SGM-V2.01.sf2" from where ever you extract it.
After that, just play a midi file and you will hear it through the Soundfont. You can access the plugin's configuration should you ever want to switch soundfonts later.
Hope that helps. As I said, if you have any DSP effects active, the midi files WILL play through them which is awesome.
This was published at the same year that I was born.
Why are a bunch of people advertising?
I suppose they figure that because this video has a sizeable number of views and is entitled "The Best Soundfont Ever", having their SoundFonts in the comment section will at least do some good for them and/or their SoundFonts. But what do I know.
Fede lasse Anyway, thanks for the soundfont. It'll help me out a ton.
Fede lasse
Sorry about this man. I blew it. Just ignore it.
Don Allen A bit of a shoddy way to make amends for one's past actions by just going all "sorry y'all, you're right, I'm wrong" and deleting the comment thread...
Fede lasse
I can't argue with that. Can't exactly take it back. I deleted the post out of respect, Fede.
We reap what we sow, hopefully.
Don
Arachno Soundfont and Timbres of Heaven are also superb Soundfonts
I use it all the time, along with the touhou soundfont and OPL-3
@E253MechaShadow Get the sfArk program. An sfArk file is basically a zip file that needs a special program to extract it. Soundfonts can come in .sfArk and sfPack files, each needing a special extraction program.
i do not need SynthFont since i own a sound blaster and those have integrated SF2 support so you can apply this to EVERY MIDI FILE :D
OMFG you are the best!
Thank you for this.
This sounds amazing!
Pretty much. It's a single file that contains a bunch of samples, the data on how to play them back in the software, and instrument presets made from that data.
this sounds much like something straight out of a playstation 1 game, I love this soundfont!
The Brass is Chefs Kiss
Finally! My MIDI piano sounds much more realistic now! I am not a fan of the default MIDI sounds offered. Thank you for posting this!
The quality come from the composition. Why do we love 8-bit music?
I think it's very nice. I use some expensive VSTs and such, but this is still quite nice for composing.
" I Don't Call It Pirating, I Call It Downloading For Free

Much better than Microsoft Wavetable but I think Arachno is slightly better
I think it's worse than Microsoft Wavetable, which is identical to Standard MIDI Library

arancho is much better
Timbres Of Heaven is the best sf. Listen:ruclips.net/video/tnPx53fHZE8/видео.html
Oh, I got it. It's just compessed into a *sfArk file. To decompress it, I needed sfArk Soundfont Compression.
Thanks a lot! This will be extremely useful for my remixes!
@wpte unfortunately thats not advisable, the XFI synthesizer has dynamic loading issues that cause note dropping and a vibrating ruler against a desk kind of sound.
Instead, give bassmididrv a try, its made by a couple of friends of mine and is a worthy replacement for the hardware synth.
There, now. Ignore the bad.
You're right! This is the best sound font ever in the world! It contain very realstic sound. The realstic level of this soundfont is up to 95% (I think).
Whoa, this actually has a good distortion guitar. Nice.
There is not only Windows out there. For Linux users: just drop the file into /usr/share/soundsfonts/ as root, but first check whether your linux distro has a package for this (keyword to search on: SGM). You can then use it, e.g.: fluidsynth -a alsa -m alsa_seq -l -i /usr/share/soundfonts/SGM-V2.01.sf2 FILENAME.MID
Lol I like the SynthFont demo song
the fact that my yt handle resembles that remark
SGM V2.01 is a very good soundfont. I made my own custom soundfont that I believe stands up well to any other, commercial and free. You can check it out in my RUclips channel and if you want to download it, you can get it here: www.mediafire.com/download/2as606szvw1pbw8/OmegaGMGS2.sf2. It is General Midi, General Midi 2, Yamaha XG, and Roland GS compatible, under 150 MB, and uses 24-Bit samples. I made it over the course of 10 years and update it if I can find ways to improve it. If you do try it, let me know and enjoy!
Isac Williams Please let me know what you think when you do. I am going to updating the soundfont soon and making a dedicated website for it. Check out my videos for some examples and my SoundCloud if you wish to hear it in action.
Isac Williams Appreciate your review and glad you like it. I cannot fully agree with you on the guitars (me and many others who use the soundfont find them very usable), but to each their own and I appreciate it. Still, keep in mind the soundfont is a work in progress and will likely never be finished as long as I remain interested in maintaining it (and that will be for years and years) The newest version will be a little larger but guitars are an area definitely improved on, among others. I will keep my videos updated when a newer version of the soundfont is available and make a website likely this weekend. I also plan on making some add-on packs to replace certain instruments on user demand, so people can pick and choose which set to use. Many plans, but they will happen in the near future. Enjoy!
I tried your sound font. Sadly, just like every single other sound font I tried, it suffers from the issue that while it sounds great playing some MIDIs (like the onestop.mid on your channel), it sounds really weird playing different ones. For example, try playing Will-o-Wisp from Frank Klepacki (Legends of Kyrandia 1 soundtrack).
***** Not every midi is going to sound great, no matter how well crafted the soundfont is or is not. Most of the composers used a particular sound set when they made the songs, usually Roland Sound Canvas. Just because it sounded good with their equipment, does not mean it will sound good with everything. I will check out that midi but it is either what I said above or your opinion. I have tested it with literally over 1000 midi files and if it is a good quality midi, it sounds good playing it back. So not sure what the issue is there but will check out that midi now.
***** Okay, just listened to that midi and it sounds good, just like the one one the Sierra music page. So not sure what the issue is there. You made it sound like it played the song incorrectly. It sounds good to me, so what are you using to play the midi file?
bass midi driver is midi revolution.

find some good free vst's to make this soundfont better.
*looks through description* soundfont: nope, already got that/ 7-zip: got that too. SynthFont: already have virtualMIDISynth. the MIDI file: YEEEAAAHHH
I just listened to a few of them, and... I think I'm good. Applause for the effort, though.
Arachno SoundFont
Yes? ;)
Standard midi instruments have their charm
This is good for some freaking hard orchestra for about 15 to 30 instruments.
I worked out that issue, and got it to work in FL Studio. Now the only thing standing in my way is those cheap fuckwads that won't let me use this soundfont until I buy the full version of their MIDI Out plug-in.
For the most part, it's like buying a house with a bunch of rooms locked off, which you have to pay to unlock. This is like bringing home a new cell phone, finding it can only be charged in one outlet, and when you charge it, it programs the cellphone to not work outside the house.
that's actually a damn good point. I like the way you think!
Who needs 7z extractors when you have WinRar?
because it's free
7zip is actually superior to Winrar in a lot of ways, in terms of speed and compression size.
sounds like the music in the mind's eye
blows dust of cd
@LassesIndex
sfark is a compressed format (like zip); just download sfark and try to unzip :)
Well, I'm just a beginner, and you should've known that the Wolf3D soundtrack didn't have MIDI music, but a different format which only contained raw OPL timbres, developed specifically by id Software and Apogee and used by them until Apogee's Duke Nukem 2 (id's last game using it was Spear of Destiny. Duke2 came around the time that Doom 1 came out, anyway). Because it only contains the raw FM timbres and no data to specifically point out which kind of instrument to use where.
Soul vs still soul.
True. True. I was looking for a general purpose SoundFont when making this video, though. This video is for those type of people.
Yeah, I love SGM & SynthFont, shame they're both not so well known though. Another great one is GeneralUser GS, try searching for that, I find it's also very good (albeit with a couple of volume issues on a few instruments, but you can compensate for that using SynthFont). By the by, I love the MIDI that you've chosen to demonstrate this with, if it isn't too much trouble could you tell me where I could download it or possibly give me a link to it or something? Thanks!
I shall recommend Musyng Kite soundfont.
Look again: they're disabled on all of my videos.
I dislike the concept of video ratings, as they only provide needless bias. I want people to watch videos with a neutral state of mind.
I wonder where the SGM Sounfont came from. P.S. I have used it myself.
So I had to think what the instruments might be. That's why the results aren't that accurate.
i used a 128key tester midi and it hot every key!!
Combining it with Arachno's Soundfont and HQ Orchestral. it would sound badass! Thanks :D
Feel free to do so ;)
Marvelous DistGTR! 🤩🤯🤩🤯🤩
I don't have the MIDI at this computer, but I'll send it to you over PM when I get my hands on my own computer.
@Quartrez
Yeah, I noticed that as well. They're not too important for me though, and FL Studio allows me to use a SoundFont here and something else there.
@Squall4Rinoa I never heared any note dropping or weird noises on my x-fi elite pro sound card mate...
The only issue I run in to is that it sometimes stops working due to the pci-e to pci chip these new sandy bridge mobo's have. New bios update resolved that tho :)
more over, software synths have a big latency when you're working with them.
@marioman574
I did that to all my videos. Someone from supposedly Bulgaria is raiding my videos with dislikes. Vote on the comments instead.
It's up now.
or if we are lazy, we can try OmniMIDI to set the soundfont.
An old and pretty limited sample bank format introduced with the AWE32 sound card. Despite its simplicity it is popular and very well supported by nearly every software sampler. You would need a VST plugin or some other sampler capable of reading the format. The SGM soundfonts are good and it's worth having both the 1.5 and 2.01 versions due to different samples. E-MU also released quite a few back in the AWE64 days that are pretty neat.
This is great! Some of the instruments sound kind of funny. (My friend describes the violin as very 'heavy') but thanks for showing me this!
Would you still call this "The Best SoundFont Ever"
Thanks for making this video. Without you I wouldn't know about this soundfont. It's damn great! :P

I started remastering the whole Wolfenstein 3D soundtrack, including Spear of Destiny. This is sone alongside a similar project with the Commander Keen soundtrack. I use FL Studio and various soundfonts with the MIDI files that were used for music in these games.
@Shadowshamer
Holy shit long comments. Anyway, the MIDI is located in the SynthFont folder.
I just use MIDIs with the BassMIDI driver.
yes yes brodyques
Synthfont for the win here
You can use Foobar2000 with the midi plugin as well if you just want to listen.
@thattykins
I love your point, mate.
Rarity is best pony.
Yes but does it have Cowbell?
Just kidding. GREAT soundfont, dude! ;-)
@LassesIndex I tried, but it isn't the SF2. Viena and SynthFont fail to open it.
