I know of NO rental car that will let you rent a car with just a debit card. That is when I was in Ireland, Norway, Iceland, UK France, Germany, New Zealand , USA , Canada and Ozzy.
Maybe not with a debit card but a visa debit card I haven’t had an issue. Rented a car in the UK a couple of times and in Australia several times with one. Ireland was the first place I have had an issue. These rentals have been with the exact same card too.
@@KeithandSally A debit card is Unsecured. There is no agreement that you will pay the balance due on the card. It is only good for the amount the card is issued for. Here in the states a Visa Debit card is worth ONLY what the card is issued for. The Rental company can not put a "hold" on the card for incidentals . Like in France they put a 200 euro hold on the card plus the cost of the rental.
@@KeithandSally Australia has their own set of rules too. The rental car company can charge you 2% for using the card vs paying cash
Just get a REAL credit card
All I can go off is my experience. We have never had an issue with a car company using our visa debit card. All they do is pre authorise a payment to the card to cover incidentals.
This has been through the same company too. All this has been with hertz. Back home there was no issue and in the UK. This is also over several different occasions.
I am not debating about if I was right or wrong. It was just an unexpected issue. Mostly because I was surprised they let me pay for the rental online with the same card they then denied when I got there.
"Shunned from the community" for not being enthused by the Joby? hehe... not likely... I think there are ways you could use it as a hefty selfie stick for vlogging.
