Thank you! My USDA hardiness zone isn't a good indicator of my area's heat index. USDA zones are designed specifically for cold hardiness and not heat hardiness. I'm in USDA zone 10a but I prefer using the Sunset Western zone map which gives a better explanation of my climate. I'm in Sunset Western zone 17, which has mild summers.
Great trees. Thank you for the description...I might suggest not moving the camera so much or move it slowly to capture the essence. thank you very much
Amber Ghost is one of the best Japanese maple cultivars. You can have three and place them each in different sun exposures and you would swear that each is a different tree, each with outstanding but with different color changes throughout the year. With Bronze Age, you have to place it in the perfect spot for the most ideal color changes. It is a nice cultivar and worth having though.
@@maplecollector4398thanks! I didn’t think I’d like so much white variegation but Floating clouds looks great too. It looks like a tree with snow on the branches to me.
Love your video and thanks for sharing. Watching it got me interested in Japanese maple. I think I’m going to start collecting some maples. Can you do your top 10 favorite maples in spring time? Thanks
I really enjoy your videos. It helps in making a decision about which Japanese maples to add to my collection. I also appreciate this video because it shows the transitioning colors, not just the initial flush. Great job!
Nice. What is the cultivar name of the orange/yellow hybrid Aloe below the Celebration maple at start of vid. Thanks, I have also been a maple nut for 40 years I am 62.
Love the mikawa family you have in the other video. I live in Fremont and want to collect these mikawa also. Do you know where to buy them? I got a large original mikawa from momiji. But they don't have other variations. Thanks.
I would think that Momiji gets them but probably sells out quickly. I buy most of my trees online. This style of tree tends to sell out quickly everywhere though.
Wow Lovely Maple 🍁 and Succulents Thank you for good sharing 😊 Include LIKE 83 , I leave 3 presents 🎁 My friend, always Stay connected. Have a nice day 😊 & Welcome to my channel ~~
Hey thanks a lot for your recommendations and expertise. One of the brothers told me you might be making a trip east to see Matt and Tim? I picked up a big Gosammer at their first open house. Very interesting Japonicum. Just wondered if you've had Yellow Cascade and what you thought of it. I got a couple of them at MrMaple and their doing great so far. A little different than Dragon Master! Who is definitely one of my favorites.
You're welcome. I am going to be in South Carolina in July. I'm going to try to fit in a little road trip to see Mr Maple. I haven't tried Yellow Cascade yet. It looks nice though.
to save the dying tree ide chop it to a stump or near to it let it start again better than to loose it.hope it helps,if you dont want to just cut it down so its smaller
Thank you for the suggestion. I've done that before and it usually works but then changes the form of the tree. I decided to just let it recover and it's actually coming back nicely.
Thank you! That is Acer anhweiense. It was purchased as Acer robustum and is probably often still sold under this name. The name was recently changed back to Acer anhweiense (W.P. Fang & M.Y. Fang), which I believe was the original name given to it when it was first classified in 1966.
Love the content! The Japanese maple addiction has set in heavily. Good new is I have a large backyard with a blank canvas! Anyway, I’m so interested in the aloe at 4:25. It’s so unique and looks out of this world! Thanks! Cheers mate
That aloe is a cultivar called 'Mr. Spiney'. It's an A. x spinosissima x marlothii hybrid. It's definitely a crazy looking cultivar. Thanks for watching!
I have a twomblys red sentinel like you. I just got mine and planted it in a large pot on my back porch. It gets pretty much full sun and i live in Dallas. My issue is that it is about a third of the leaves are green. Is this a issue you have had?
That might be due to shadows cast by the leaves. Take a look a the leaves that are green while the sun is hitting the tree. If the green leaves are being shaded, that's what it is. Mine doesn't have that.
Welcome back my fellow East Bay maple collector! I always look forward to your videos. I have some of your maples like Amber ghost they don’t look as nice (in Berkeley here). Do you ever do host a in person tour?😅 Question for you, what fertilizer do you use?
I haven't done any tours. Maybe in the future. Although my yard is so small, I'm afraid it would be underwhelming. Fertilizer is a tricky subject that I don't like to get into. I do occasionally use various fertilizers although very rarely. In most cases, they aren't necessary.
I bought a Japanese Princess two months ago and the leaves turned brown and fell off. You ever have this problem before? I repotted it. Not sure if it’s because of overwatering and all the random showers we have been getting. It was also in a shady spot. Not sure what to do, I feel like it’s slowly dying 😢
I have had trees die, from various reasons, over the years. There's no way for me to know what's going on with yours but over watering could definitely be the reason. Japanese Princess also likes the sun. I wouldn't keep it in the shade.
Just found your channel, great tour. I’m curious to know what zone you are in because these would all die in the winter if we had them in pots over winter in Ontario.
Thank you so much, I enjoy watching your beautiful maple trees. I started collecting maples as well. I planted very nice verities this summer.
Wow , absolutely they all beautiful gorgeous Maple trees , I really enjoy watching them all ., thank you very much .
Yr trees are looking great man👌Thank you for the content, very cool.
Thank you!
Fantastic as always :-)
Great video! Just wondering what zone are you in? I'm in zone 9b, not too many cultivars can handle the heat wave in summer here.
Is there any way you could pop the written names of the trees on the screen, some of them are hard to search without the spelling. Thank you.
I might do that in future videos. Thank you for the suggestion!
Great trees. Thank you for the description...I might suggest not moving the camera so much or move it slowly to capture the essence. thank you very much
Johin? I have been looking for one..
Admire your fabulous collections! I would appreciate if you can further share how you bonsai your Sanko Kaku.
Hi Aaron. I’m down here near Santa Barbara in zone 10. What are your best full sun maples? Thanks for all your videos
The Hot Blonde, Celebration just to name of few, are out of this world. Too bad they're not available in Europe. Awesome collection.
Awesome video! Also great stock of maples!
I would rehome any that you’re giving up on.
Oh man, you have me wondering if I should go with Amber Ghost over Bronze Age.

Yes, I'll try to do a top 10 this spring. Thank you!
I really enjoy your videos. It helps in making a decision about which Japanese maples to add to my collection. I also appreciate this video because it shows the transitioning colors, not just the initial flush. Great job!
Thank you! I'm glad they helped.
I learn a lot from your videos. Please keep posting!
Just found your channel, but I'm loving it. A great look at the mature versions of a lot of popular trees, very informative as well. 💪🏼💪🏼
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it.
Nice. What is the cultivar name of the orange/yellow hybrid Aloe below the Celebration maple at start of vid. Thanks, I have also been a maple nut for 40 years I am 62.
Thank you. The Aloe at the beginning is Aloe dorotheae. The other one is Aloe 'Mr. Prickly' (marlothii x spinosissma).
A great collection Sir. Thanks for posting 👍🏻🍁

Love your videos! You mentioned hybridisation a couple of times. How do you achieve this with your collection? I can imagine some awesome outcomes
Awesome vid, thanks for sharing. The tree @18:20 can anyone spell the name out for me? Thanks.
Thank you! That is Acer anhweiense. It was purchased as Acer robustum and is probably often still sold under this name. The name was recently changed back to Acer anhweiense (W.P. Fang & M.Y. Fang), which I believe was the original name given to it when it was first classified in 1966.
I bought a Marielle this year. How much Sun can it handle?
Mine gets sun from noon to 5. It seems fairly sun tolerant.
How do you overwinter the potted trees
It doesn't get that cold where I live so I just leave them where they are.
nice!

Love the video. What do you mean "hybridizing garden"? How do you go about hybridizing a JM?
Maple species from section palmata will hybridize with each other. Collect the seeds and grow them. You can find some seedlings with unique traits.
Your trees look so amazing!!! Those aloes are so cool too!!! Looking very forward to more videos!!!🔥🔥🔥
Yeah, what variety are those aloes? I’ll have to research.
Very nice!
Nice collection. Do you air layer ever
Thank you. I haven't done any air layering.
What zone are you in?
Zone 10a
Dragon Master: 🥺
?
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
What do you recommend Johin or Bronze Age?
I recommend them both. I like Johin the most but Bronze Age is more sun tolerant.
Great video!
Thank you!
Where did you get the okushimo?
I got it a few years ago from acer198797 on eBay.
