- The WDR BIG BAND plays "Blueport" (composer: Art Farmer / arranger: Al Cohn) under the direction of Jörg Achim Keller. Solos are played by Jens Neufang on baritone saxophone, Raphael Klemm on trombone, Paul Heller on tenor saxophone, John Goldsby on bass and Andy Hader on trumpet. Live recording of the concert "Mr Mulligan's Concert Jazz" at the Kölner Philharmonie (October 2023).

The MULLIGAN CONCERT JAZZ BAND!!! Great tune! Gerry Mulligan had a great book for his bands. Having Farmer and Brookmeyer on at least one recording back during the CJB era was a stroke of genius on Mulligan's part. Farmer wrote a great tune and the CJB played it like their souls were burning. Great music from a band that can handle it some 60 years later! Great job!

Arranger credit reads Al Cohn. Al really got going on sax with Woody Herman’s Second Herd. That’s where he first played with Zoot Sims and they made a nice set of records together over the years. Both of them also played with Gerry Mulligan off and on.

I'm a huge fan of everyone in this band, but this chart really struck a nerve with me, regarding the excellent rhythm section. (I'm a drummer.) Hans Dekker, John Goldsby, and Billy Test are a great, solid rhythm section, and their playing on this and many other recordings has real depth. Bravo, gentlemen!
