I believe this is about the suicide of her best friend at the time. The 2 songs u have done are good-but to get a feel for her true artistry in writing there are so many others. The pic w/the 2 German Shepards is the cover of her new LP Blue Banisters. That title cut is a really good example of her use of color that is found throughout her whole discography. The banisters turn from blue to grey to green-hmmm! This would be an excellent song to start-hopefully-much more of ur Lana reactions.
We don't have any proof of that. I don't know why people keep repeating this. Lana never mentioned such thing.

Sadly this video is true. Lana lost a friend back in the day. She committed Suici** and she wrote this song for her. It is a really tragic song and lyrics but she tries to make up for it by making the music grand and beautiful. you should listen to her music as she has been releasing it because every album is sort of different but the same vibe for sure.

I looove her, she has such a unique sound! Discovered her with the "Born To Die" album (which this song is from) and it remains my favourite of hers to this day, even though I like them all. Maybe you could also check out her song "young and beautiful" which was part of the soundtrack for "The Great Gatsby"?

LDR is like the human version of dry humor. Like even if it’s not your thing, you’ll still laugh at the jokes being made. But if it IS your thing, it’s some of the best jokes you’ve ever heard and the delivery makes it even better.
Her slow pacing and almost talking rather than singing in some songs she has. It sounds great and really makes you pay attention to the lyricism in my opinion

her lyrics have MANY meanings you're right when you say "if I was just listening to the song I'd think something else" because there's so many layers and interpretations. but that's because she's a true poet ❤️ not many can do this
This song gave me so much nostalgia, I remember hearing in the college all the time. This entire album is a masterpiece

if you want to dive into her discography more, this would be the order to do it, if you want to only do the singles i included them, although i have to say that lana tends to not include her best songs from the albums as singles:
1- born to die album: video games, born to die, blue jeans, national anthem
2- paradise album (continuation of born to die): ride, tropico (short movie with music videos to the other songs left from the album)
3- ULTRAVIOLENCE (my favorite favorite album, rock music influenced and some of it is recorded in one take, you should listen to the whole thing imo but if only singles then): ultraviolence, shades of cool, west coast.
4- honeymoon (her more cinematic and lyrics centered album, very poetic and mature): music to watch boys to, high by the beach, freak.
5- lust for life (a lot of hiphop influenced): love, lust for life, white mustang.
6- norman f rockwell (her most critically acclaimed work): mariners appartement complex, venice b, doin' time, f it i love you, the greatest.
7- chemtrails over the country club (generally the fandom's least favorite work but it still is great): white dress, chemtrails, let me love you like a woman.
8- blue banisters (her latest work and one of her best too): blue banisters, text book, wildflower wildfire, arcadia.
The song is a real life reference for the summer one of her best friends commited suicide, which left lana heartboken and traumatized

youre absolutely right on the interpretation. lana’s friend commited suicide during summer and she developed seasonal depression hence summertime sadness. lana jumping off at the beginning was a representation of a part of herself dying along with her friend.
I don't know where it was filmed but the bridge reminded me so much of the bridge by my house in Pasadena. Called suicide bridge locally.
The cedar trees and several other shots remind me of my high school.
It made me homesick for that time. The intensity.
It seems summertime sadness is a euphemism for being s******l
You should definitely do 'Ride' next. The music video is what made me love her and made me much more intrigued about knowing more about her. I've been supporting her ever since! :)
I know I’m really late, but this is the story of the music video: The music video opens with a woman saying, "Remember, I'll always love you, bye"(that woman is the woman in the red dress). After the phone call, Lana sings the opening lyrics and jumps off the cliff.
In the next scene, we see the woman with the red dress committing suicide, after sending the voice message. The object that we see smashing on the ground is supposed to be the woman in the white dress getting the message and realising that her lover is dead (aka: the woman in the red dress).
Most of the music video is showing them at happier times. Eventually, the scene we see in the start of the music video happens where the woman in the right dress jumps off the cliff. Later we see them after their day finally looking at each other the end of the music video is there ghost hunting the world.

As a fan of both taylor and lana I can easily say that taylor take a lot of inspiration from lana. They both amazing, her voice is so unique, u need to react more of her songs

Always transmitting what she sings and making us feel with that particular voice that she has with those incredible voice notes and melismas. Greetings from Spain
How I interpret the music video is that
Lana and the other girl are Bestfriends or lovers. Lana jumped first in the beginning and so her friend is obviously very disturbed with that and she's constantly haunted by the ghost of Lana. You can see her driving the car and Lana's ghost is with her.
And Then she can not cope with the loss , so she ends up jumping too.
The last scene is very interesting, we see Lana walking on a bridge (maybe her ghost) and then if you see carefully there's another spirit/ghost behind her. Which I think is her friend after she died..

If you like lyrics then you just found one of the best, every Lana album is a gem and the lyrical content is incredible, many times you have to read between the lines and other times she says it straight to your face, especially In her latest album, she uses such a descriptive way of writing that listening to the song is like watching a movie, it's really unique. First time viewer, huge Lana fan, not sure if you do whole album reactions or just songs, but you should get into her Discography, Lana is a poet and it shows through her music. My suggestion would be to start from her breakthrough album Born To Die and go in order 1-8 until you get to Blue Bannisters, her latest work. If you just do songs, I'd suggest Dark Paradise, it's IMO the quintessential Lana Del Rey sound and the lyrics are so profound, a true sad bop! lol

After you've mentioned about the suicide part, I was thinking, it was most probably the first one (Lana) jumped and died. Then perhaps the other girl was really sad to a point where she couldn't take it anymore and finally jumped off a bridge as well. And in that case, that could really be the ghost of Lana in the car, just like you said.

I always thought of it as an tragic ending to a forbidden love … song. Two women in love with each other. Their clothes let me know it was the “old maiden”(TiffNY) times, which lets me know it must’ve been frowned upon. They are the only two shown in the video and both commit suicide at the end …
