This song chorus is outta of this world! And it gets better and better everytime you listen to it! 🔥😍
There’s a theory that says that when she’s in the car here she’s actually a ghost. There’s supposed to be a tie between this music video and blue jeans, shades of cool and born to die - where at the end of BTD she dies and he survives and in a lot of these music videos her memory is haunting him. So chronologically it would go- blue jeans, born to die, shades of cool/west coast.

a lot of fans have theorize that BTD, Shades of Cool, Blue Jeans and West Coast are on the same universe or LANAVerse as the casts reoccur and the story appears to be connected.
-In Blue Jeans they met.
-In BTD she died.
-In Shades of Cool he is being haunted by the memories of her.
-While the West Coast MV is the what if/flip side where she didn't die.
The video is a representation that she got that young, funny and exciting love with the guy on the beach, doing all the goofy stuff and drinking and having a good time
But the reality is the at the end of the day (night) she stays with the older and more serious guy, that makes her feel powerful and glamorous and she sees as a man that she can look up and admire
So she have what she needs, the fun and rollercoaster, the rush and passion and the stability, money, power and glory that the older dude can offer to her.
The boy with whom she can be like a teenager and fooling around and the man with whom she turned into a woman.

I would love to see you do the title track Ultraviolence! This has always been a top song of hers for me. The lyrics are EXTREMELY dark. But the sound is angelic and hypnotic. It's one that gives me full body chills no matter how many times I hear it.

There are alot of call backs from other videos, like the born to die car crash, blue jeans underwater drowning, and the gentleman from shades of cool. Do what you will with that, not 100% on what it means but it's definitely a vibe..love this song
I get serious Kurt Cobain vibes from the first guy, but the stability of an "older man" Lana yearns for in the chorus. Perhaps that's the juxtaposition? Seems to be a recurring pattern with this queen.

I HIGHLY recommend you listen to the version of this song by Dan Heath Orchestral. The music feels so full and the backing sounds really get a chance to shine. Truly the most beautiful rendition I've ever heard!

In my opinion, she's singing about leaving her boyfriend that is her true love for her carrier and LA. He is the cool free spirit type ('you have the music in you ...'), but that's not enough for her. As much as she loves him, she can't deny that she also craves the Hollywood power and vibes (West coast), which is why she said 'I wanna say I miss you so much' bc no matter how sick the west coast is, she likes it... But the west coast is a double-edged sword where she pays by having to be with old powerful men just to get what she wants in her career. What seems strange is that same old guy is in the Shades of cool video, which could mean that in the West coast video she doesn't present him as a sleezy old rich pervert she has to be with in order to advance in her career, but as the part of the West coast she also likes (older cool guys who match her wild spirit)...

I feel like the line his parliaments on fire one is referring to the guy she’s with in the car and the line I can see my sweet boy singing is for the past relationship of the guy on the beach where she gets more happy about him and adds Spanish lyrics as well to show her love for him but the parliament guy she’s in relation with right now is someone who provides for her but she isn’t in actual love with him but tells herself and the world that I’m in love…I’m in love…when she’s not. Not sure but this could be the meaning.
